I've found good deals on both but can't seem to decide. Any help?
No comparison, get the MG. ;D
Never used a quantum reel before, but I picked up an mg a month ago and I love the reel. I am pretty new to bc's so I can't really compare to any others, but I do know that I will fish this reel for a very long time.
An early adopter issue ;D
The MG is proven
The new Energy looks pretty, but doesn't have a track record yet.
I personally have a history of buying innovative, and unproven products. That said, I just ordered an MG because I wanted to own a classic I also have a Tour Edition 1171 awaiting its first use
MG for sure.
Later,
QuoteMG for sure.Later,
X2 No doubt
I recently purchased an MG and all I can say is....WOW This has to be one of the lightest/smoothest reels I have ever used. I am predominantly a Daiwa guy, but I too got a deal on a MG I couldnt refuse. I think it will become a "1st string player" this year on the boat.
The TD-X just may have to play on the 2nd string.... ;D...
Hmmm, Zebco or Shimano...

Don 't pay attention to him, he 's full of hate.
Do a side by side comparison pick which one YOU like. Both should be fine.
Quantum Energy, Quantum has really changed and I think they have started making dependable products.

What makes you think they have changed?

For me, I've been using Quantum baitcasters since '97 and I have only had one issue with any of my Quantums which Reel Mech helped me figure out that I caused the failure due to neglect on my part. I haven't had any issues since. Maybe I've been lucky but they perform well for me.

Dude can i get what ur smoking ;D shimano mg all the way
Iv fished with a flw pro and he know kvd personally and he burns those quantums up in 6 months just so u all know
OK how about this.
Neither ;D
Where's a flooger mook when you need when you need a little help preventing a reel debate from getting too heated

He 's posting questions in the Shimano support section. ;D

I'm betting KVD would burn up any reel in a couple months
I fish Quantum and I've never had a problem. I love em. I know Shimano makes a great reel too. I don't think you can go wrong with whichever one you choose.
I would get the Tour Edition. I prefer the adjustability of the Quantums.
I have a mg would not give you a plug nickel for another one, they are light smooth small but one major problem no lbs on the drag I have lost many fish do to no drag I have sent it back to shimano twice and they say it is the way it is suppose to be. Just bought 4 of the new Quantum tour editions and so far love them will have to see how they hold up.
I am a big fan of the new Quantum reels. I think that they are heading in a better direction with their new lineup. However, the best reel I have ever fished with was a 50mg. If I had the choice I would said the 50mg any day of the week. I am not brand loyal, I use what I think is best suited for my needs. The 50mg is the best I have ever used, hands down.
Wow! Either you love Shimano or you're a hater. I think they are both good reels. Pick each up, put it on a rod and see how they feel.
You'll be the one using it. Now, BMW or Mercedes.
;D

We have a designated section to address any issue you might have
or information you need. Post the problems you are having with the
CH50MG and let's see if they can't be resolved.
BTW, Welcome aboard!
8-)
I doubt that many on this board have fished with the new energy (I have not), but rather are just promoting Quantum b/c they are brand loyal. I do know several people on this board that love their MGs. I can only speak for the MG, I have 3 of them and believe this is one of the best reels Shimano has ever made. The question you need to ask yourself is do you want a proven product or take a chance on a new reel (that could be great) from a company that has had known baitcaster durabililty issues.
Get a New Chronarch MG 50 now while they are still available - who knows if you will be able to get this classic NIB in the future.
You can get a great deal on the 2009 Energy this November when they are on closeout ;D ;D ;D
For the Shimano Posse

I just dont get this. I've heard a couple of complaints like this with no details surrouding the problem. Just blanket statements. I'd really be curious to see a conversation with you involving Bantam1 to get to the root of the problem.
I have 6 MG50's that I have been fishing hard with for over 3 years. I've muscled smallies in the 4, 5 and 6 lb class on 8 lb test line and NEVER had a problem not caused by my stupidity.
As for the Quantum PT vs MG50 - how can you even make a comparison? Apples and Oranges. MG50 is built for much lighter applications and is much lighter. Wouldnt a better comparison be a PT vs Curado?
Isnt that like comparing a motorcycle to an SUV and asking which one is better? The answer is the same - depends.
B
P.S. I'll give you a plug nickel for your used MG50.
