It's about time for another rod/reel. So whats the best Baitcaster for $100?
I am looking at the 7' Abu Vertias rod and around 12-15# hybrid line. I will throw a 1/4oz spinner quite a bit with it .
I am also open to line suggestions and colors...
I live in Ks and will mainly bass fish with this rig but my next trip will be to fish in a canal and coastal waters in Florida and I'll probably take this rod with me along with some heavier tackle...
This. Get em' while you still can before the new model comes out. The new model looks like a downgrade.
You can get em' at BPS for the same price too if your more comfortable shopping in-store.
i think the best bang for the buck is a lightly used reel that retailed for $100-$170. with some leg work these can be picked up at a fair price. the sad truth is even new reels out of the box often will not work to their full potential before being serviced by a pro.
bps PQ are good reels for the money. they are always on sale for like $80

Any ideas that are more specific? I am 20 minutes south of you btw.
I'll check out the Pro Qualifier and the Shimano Monday-Tues..
Anyone have a favorite line? LOL

something in the Revo series is a start. Daiwa Aggrest if you want a fast retrieve.you should be able to find a great used reel or a good new reel for $100
Lew's Speed Spool. Lots of bang for your buck there.
Two of these ...actually not a terrible idea.
You'll have enough $ left over to spool up both with quality mono too.
jus sayin'

Being clearanced right now the Citica is the best baitcaster you can purchase for 100 dollars. Nuff said !
The Daiwa Exceler is around $80 and is a pretty good reel and comes in a lefty model also and all three popular speeds.

Seaguar InvizX. 10-12 #
I would check Ebay for a Revo of your liking. Revo S can be found for under $100, a SX can be found for $120 or so.
Get the Citica. Its a workhorse.

I have to agree with this. I have two Revo SXs that I absolutely love. A friend of mine is moving over seas and gave me his PQ, and HOLY COW! Sadly, I like it as much or better than my Revos.
I am a big Abu fan and I have several 6000... reels but some of the Revos go $160+ and I don't need one that bad so I'll check out the Citica again.

Hard to beat for the $$$
Lew's speed spool. Out performs many $200 reels.
I picked up a brand new Shimano Chromica on ebay for 40 bucks. It is really smooth and strong. I use the Seaguar InvisX 10lb test and it is great, no break offs yet. If your looking for a nice rod too, I would recommend the BPS XPS Extreme rods. I have the spinning rod and recently bought a new trigger one for 55 bucks. Stay away from the cheaper KVD reels.
Revo S, Citica and Pro Qualifer would be my choices new. Revo retails for a little more but would be my favorite. It really depends...handle them at store and on a rod then decide.
Like someone else mentioned, the best option would be to shop forums and buy used. You could get a great setup for $200, much better than spending it in store imo.
Pflueger President can be found new at around $100 and is one heck of a reel.
The Citica E is really hard to beat, great reel, also try looking into the Shimano Caenan... really surprised me at how Versatile it is and how well it holds up for the price point.
Another vote for the Citica 200 E.
The Cabelas Prodigy also is at the price point you are considering and its made by Daiwa. I have a couple of the older grey models made by Daiwa also and they are great reels for the $ as well being right at $100.
I'll tell you what. I am a shimano fan true and through, but I won a pflueger trion a couple of months ago as a door prize at a local tourney and I am impressed. I was actually shocked at how smooth, light, and palmable it was. It does have centrifugal cast control and it is not finicky between lures like many other mag. controlled pure fishing reels. I would definitely buy one if I needed another reel
For line, I'd give the Yo-Zuri Hybrid a shot. Its $12.99 for a 600 yd spool. I prefer the smoke color.
Great stuff. Strong and manageable.
Just received an email from www.ohya.com that they were selling citca e series reels for $94 and curados for $133.95 with free shipping. If you can stretch for another $30 I would definitely pick up the curado. I am a pretty frugal guy when it comes to buying equipment and I decided to indulge and go with something that was really nice. With the curado I have not been disappointed at all, and has made me a believer in the statement that you get what you pay for. I bought a curado from ohya last year and they are legit. You will not be disappointed. Getting a $170 reel for $133 is a really good deal and you will be able to keep it for many years with proper care. I am sure the citca is nice as well.
I just wanted to say thanks to all for the advise. I have already learned a lot from this forum.
I ended up getting a 7" medium Vertias rod, Lew's speed spool , 10# Sufix 832 & some Senkos...
I also found a guy here selling a used Citica and will be sending him a MO Today for it .
I'll report back on the new combo in a few days I'm going fishing!!!

I've got an older gray model myself I picked up when Cabela's was closing this model out last year. Sent it for cleaning and bearing upgrade to ABEC5s. Guy who did the work said it responded very well. Well enough that he was going to pick up a couple for guests. However, I have yet to fish it, or even cast it. Anyway, the new model is on sale. $100 reel for $70.

New reel looks better, and has more bearings. Should be an improvement over the gray model. May have to pick up another reel that most likely won't get used this year!
Guy's comments about the Cabea's reel after working on it.
"That Cabela’s reel after Polishing the internals is wicked smooth and precise feeling. This reel engages and disengages better then the Advantage 153 HSTA Super tuned model…that’s a 180 dollar reel. The way it engages and disengages it feels much a like a Zillion. I can’t believe it took the mod that well. It helps every reel but it REALLY helped this reel and made it very, very refined feeling. You will notice it the first time you click the thumb bar down and then turn the handle it re-engage it. Also with the end of the spool bar polished it really helped speed up the spool and increase free spool time…A LOT. You are really going to love that reel now. It’s truly amazing what it did for that reel. If I had my eyes closed and didn’t know what reel it was and played with it and was asked how much it cost I would say it’s a reel in the 150-200 price range. The level of refinement the reel has now is awesome and unbelievable at that price point."
Okay...now I've psyched myself out!! Going to have to give this reel a workout next time I'm on the water.
BPS Extreme. I like mine. $79.99

I have a few of these Cabela's reels as well as pro qualifiers, revo s reels, and shimano citica D series.
I personally find the Cabela's reels to be equal to any of the reels listed. The newly redesigned Prodigy reel is also currently on sale for 69.00.
I just wanted to give an update that the rod/reel work great!
THANKS TO ALL...
Nice!!! Good luck fishin!
