I think I'm too far north for academy. I did see the Christie model at Walmart for $70 but I wasn't impressed.
I've seen the fury and thought they were on the lighter side.
What model Bucoo would you suggest for throwing 3/8-1/2oz jigs and trigs, chatterbaits, lipless cranks... A kind of "do everything" stick? I'm looking 7'2"-7'4".
Thanks!

Falcons H is really a MH. I’d say it’s comparable to Dobyns 4 power

7'4 heavy. I've thrown everything from senkos, traps, spinnerbaits, jigs, carolina rigs, and buzzbait on mine

That's for the info. "Heavy" always worries me that it will end up being a pool cue that won't load up. Sounds like the flacons all have a softer tip?

Very much so. super soft tip them you hit back bone about 75% up the rod.
I'd get a Phoenix feather. I dont own one, but the reviews are great, they are sharp looking, crazy light, and Phoenix makes great rods.

I own 2 original Tatula rods, a 7'2" MH 'Regular'and the Heavy Fast version. Great rods. I find the MH to be more sensitive, and use it for mostly Texas Rigs 3/8 ounce to 3/16 ounce weights but it works great with 1/2 ounce jig plus trailer although I personally wouldn't go heavier than than by much. To me it is a perfect medium heavy with a responsive tip. Not sure why Diawa Doesn't just call it fast action. Some people have said that means it is somewhat of a moderate tip, but I'm here to tell you it ain't. It is excellent for single hook baits. Perfect amount of flex and backbone.
The Heavy version is a bit more stout of course and the tip is quite fast. I'd like to see it with a smidge more give but it throws 3/8 ounce baits well and 1/2 ounce baits great. It is a fairly sensitive rod but not as much so as the Med/Heavy. Love it for pitching jigs.
If I had to nit pick these rods, it would be that I'd like a slightly longer handle. The tip of the trigger to the handle is 10", but that's just a preference thing. I also wouldn't mind the handle being slightly larger in diameter. To my surprise, I kinda like the foam grips, they feel solid and high quality, while being quite comfortable to hold. Absolutely love the guides on those rods. Hope that helps.
I'm narrowing my decisions down...I just started working at dicks and have 25% off lodge items. Correct me if im wrong, but that means items online as well too, right? If so, I'm now deciding between
-A kistler KLX
-Hammer rods, too many people swear by the sensitivity and feel for the price
-St Croix Legend Tournament or Avid X, which i can get a 25% employee discount on hopefully
If anyone has used both and can compare, it would help a lot.
I'm a huge St Croix fan, and it's hard to go wrong with a Legend Tournament rod. And I like the idea of the 25% discount at Dick's. But there are places online, as well as the flea market here, where if you are a little patient and look on a regular basis, you can find lightly used G Loomis GLX rods for well under your $250 budget. I've picked some up for under $200 myself. PM me for info if you want to consider that option.
