I've looked around online for extra brakes, but I can't seem to find any (just in case I later break one). Does anyone know of a site where I could purchase some? What about other Shimanos? Will any of their brakes work?
It comes with 4.
All you need is 1 so actually you have 3 spares

:/ But I really wanna know where to get the SVS Infinity braking system parts for the 70.
contact Shimano
I may have to do that, but I fear being on the line for hours...

Haha really? I've never waited more than a minute or two. Usually you're straight through. They'll be free to you as well, in case you feared that too ?
Shimano Customer Service is outstanding.
Welcome aboard!
Great reel by all reviews I've read. Got a
Chronarch 50e myself, love it.
I second the "contact Shimano" suggestion.
You could also go online and buy direct from
them.
I've shopped at Shimano for upgrades. No issues
and quick shipping:

Call Shimano directly. I'm curious why you think you need extra. I've ran almost all Shimano reels for 20 years and I've never had to replace a brake tab.
Don't bother buying extra right now, save it for when you actually need it, if you ever do
Shimano has always answered on the 2nd or 3rd ring when I have called them. Great service.

Thanks for the link, but will the brake blocks from the 200 work on the 70? I believe the 200 are red, while mine are white.

That I can't answer. Those who have both reels
you mention will hopefully chime in.
And I didn't even check the pull-down menu for
your reel, I assumed it would be there, but I don't
see the CU70 anywhere in the list!
if you are talking about the 4 internal adjustment, I dont think you have to worry about damage or lost it while adjusting. This thing attach to the reel and wont come off like old shimano(I know I almost lost one on my curado 100d) and to break one I dont know how you gonna break the thing this thing dont need adjust ment every time to cast.
For side note, I think I read somewhere that on curado 70, 4 brake on and dial on 1, equal 2 brake on older shimano.
The different colors designate the weight of the brake itself. I believe the clear one's are the lightest one's. I have never got into swapping them around, as I have never found a reason to do so (as I mentioned before). I'm not at home to actually compare my two reels for you, but I'm 80% sure the brakes are completely different between the 200 and 70.

I just hope the 70 doesn't turn out to be the reel you can't find parts for. It seems like no online sites have parts for them. It's why I was wondering if there's an alternative way to go, such as brakes or a spool (with brakes, of course) that will fit the 70.

Since there's nothing on Shimano's site, this is when I'd
give Shimano a call....
Shimano redesigned their SVS Infinity system recently. It's represented in the new Met MGL, Casitas, and 70 series.
Shimano's tech rep assures us that the new brakes won't wear out. That's why they don't furnish spares. On a side note the new design works best with all 4 tabs on and adjustments made externally with the dial. Hope this helps.
You are worried too much man just go out and have fun with your reel.

Sorry. I overlooked your post before I made mine. You fully understand the new system. Confidentially, I kind of miss the old VBS like your 100D.

For the reels that arent in the Shimano store (and the MET MGL which will not open) you have to go to their main site, open the PDF diagram below (blue tabs on right side of page), write down the part numbers you need and call them. BTW, i do not see individual part numbers for the brake shoes.

Good info.
The Curado 200 and Curado 70 have two different braking systems.

The Curado 70 has a newly engineered SVS as mentioned. The basic concept is the same as the 200 I.
Thanks for all the assistance, good people.
Does anyone have any spooling recommendations?
Should I tie (I'm using Powerpro braid) in a hole on the spool, or just tie it to the spool? I also would like to know if I should start it with mono line or not.
Thanks.
They don't always have parts available for the new reels right away. I've been looking for a new spool for my 2016 Stradic. I celled Shimano and they couldn't tell me when they would have parts available. I've always heard Tackle Trap is a good place to call for parts. I ended up finding spare spools on the Bay.

They have the parts for the new Stradic Ci4+. Im not sure why they told you they didnt, they usually have it as soon as it comes out. Go to the link below and click the blue tabs on the right side of the product specs for your reel. Find the part numbers you need and call 1-877-577-0600. The spool for the 2500 is RD17665 and they have them in stock. about $45.

Gary at the Tackle Trap is great. I ordered a MET MGL spool from him for the same price as Shimano is selling for. He included an O-ring that is needed that has to be ordered separately if from Shimano USA (50 cent part).

Really? This is the Shimano Parts Shop and the Stradic Ci4 1000HGFB isn't an option. The spool assembly for my model is part RD17775.

unless they are out of 1000 size for some reason they should have it. The drop down doesnt work with the MGL or Stradic ci4+ on the parts shop. I know the 2500 spool is in stock. At least it was this morning.
For parts that are not ready for purchasing online go to the main site and look up the parts list there before you call.
Heres the 1000 (RD17775 is correct)

BTW that link you posted is the old version. the new one should be here but the drop down is not working yet.

It's been a month or two since I called and spoke to them. I couldn't find it online and they told me it takes some time for parts to come available on new models. They may have come out between now and then. I'll give them another call.
Anyone have any good recommendations for a rod under 100$?
Fry, with regard to your question on spooling braid, always use a backing before you install your braid and it will prevent braid slipping under pressure (and saves money). I just use old 10lb mono for my backing. I also use a backing for all of my lines to save money. Why put a football field length of line on a reel if you are usually going to be throwing 20-40 yds. I try to keep my line to about 1/8th of an inch from the spool edge if I can because as the line length reduces, so does the distance you can cast because of the change in spool RPM with less line on it.
I just tried my new 70 out yesterday. What a great reel. I must say it was noticeably smaller than the 200i. I am impressed so far.
