At 100 dollars can I get what I'm looking for? I'm looking for a solid rod with good casting distance and decent enough sensitivity. I was thinking of going after the abu veritas, but have read some mixed reviews. Also I don't know if I should buy at walmart, or at dick's, or maybe online. Some say ***, others say ebay. Any suggestions?
I would be patient and find something on our Flea Market. I have purchased
most of my rods & reels right here!
Take a look at the St. Croix premiers they start around $100 or BPS carbonlite also around $100. I can vouch for these rods because I own them. The carbonlite's have a one year warranty something happens to them you can return them and get new one no questions asked. I exercised that option once. The premiers are good rods will last you for a while.
I use Veritas and love 'em, I think it's about as good as any $100 rod is going to get.
Veritas, St.Croix Premiers and Mojos come to mind. If you want to save a little $ the gen2 Vendettas seem to be right there performance wise as the Veritas but with non SIC guides
Lots of great stuff in here guys thanks a lot. Specifically about the veritas... any truth to the guides being a little fragile? The majority of the complaints are about the guides falling out.
Check out the Cabelas Prodigy line of rods right at $100 and also check out the Dick's Tec Spec Micro series of rods right at $80. They are both great rods and go out with me Everytime I hit the water. The Tec Spec surprised me with its sensitivity and light weight for the price and it is a great rod.
I have a veritas, nice rod for the money, but I have to recommend a *** *** black. You will not be dusappointed, it's by far the best rod at that price point, IMO.
Abu Garcia Veritas Casting Micro Guide Rod
$70.80 walmart online, free ship to store
Shimano Compre.
With the sale over at bass tackle depot, you can get a great deal. Two that come to mind are the abu verdict for 65 and the crucial 112 from shimano. Good luck, and oh BTW u can order the veritas.from Walmart for 75 think its the same at btd
Here's my humble opnion, I own the veritas micro, mojo, and carbonlite. The veritas and mojo are nice and feel like a hundred dollar rod. To me the carbonlite fishes well above its price tag. The fit and finish are better and it fishes better for me. Also the veritas are heavier than what they are rated, meaning a medium feels like a mh and a mh feels like h. Carbonlite feels like what they are marked as. Also if u can spend a little extra the kistler magnesium are on sale at tackle warehouse. Normally 200 now 120. All of the other rods can be found around the web for 75-80.
The Veritas fishes great. I really like mine but after a season of use one of the guides fell out.
IMO the veritas is overated. Like many I bought it based on the great reviews. Honestly I was unimpressed with it, specifically its sensitivity.
I also own a carbonlite and a *** *** black. IMO nothing touches the *** black @ the 100 dollar price point. The fit, finish, balance all are very well done. Not to mention they have OUTSTANDING customer service.
I would also rate the carbonlite higher than the veritas. First baitcasting rod I ever bought and its still one of my favs.
I think Im gonna have to buy one of those Carbonlites for my crank rig Im gonna put together. They look good, and keep seeing good reports like this.On 12/18/2012 at 12:22 AM, sarcazmo said:IMO the veritas is overated. Like many I bought it based on the great reviews. I do not own a carbonlite rod yet, but my fishing partner has several. His are paired with Revo's and they are a dream to fish. It feels like you are fishing with nothing the combo is so light. I had a last minute chance to steelhead fish one day and had no rod with me. I took his 7 foot bc set up and was landing 10 -16 lb steelhead on it with no problem.
If you wait until BPS's Spring Fishing Classic, I think you can do the rod trade in and get them for $69.

Anyone know whose blanks the carbonlites are built on? I have also read good reviews on them and I know most house brand stuff is made by another company and rebranded...
The rumor is they are Shimano blanks. I have 3 and love them!!!
For $100 I would hurry up and go for a Shimano Cumara. Once was around $175-200 now on sale big time. It won't last long at TW as they are trying to get rid of the old versions. Everyday I hope on TW and oh so close to clicking "check out".

if you want the absolute best rod you can get for under 100 dollars get a denali jadewood. you're probably being told a bunch of different rods but i promise you i've tryed dozens of them and there is nothing even close to as light, strong, and sensetive as this for under 100 dollars. go to www.denalistore.com to check them out. i fish about 15 tournaments per year and would happly pay 300 for my rods but i choose these over just about anything regardless of price.
I have a jadewood as well, and I love it, but I would choose the *** black if I had to, but they are close in sensitivity and balance, and both look great.
You can find the Veritas in the $70 range if you look around. I've got one and a Premier and use the Veritas much more.
Well guys all sorts of different opinions, but ultimately I went with the veritas. Really appreciate all the help! I'll be keeping an eye on the other suggestions in here as in a few months I may consider buying another good rod.

Shimano are graphite, carbonlite are carbon fiber. They may have the shimano taper but they are not shimano blanks.
I know you have already gotten a Veritas but I'm going to go ahead and suggest the Falcon Bucoo Micro anyway. Wal-Mart carries them for $129 but you can get them brand new on Ebay all day for a $100 w/free shipping. I have several of them and they cast great, are very light yet tough, balnce is excellent with my Curados and Citicas, super sensitive, and they feel like the ratings that they are listed as. I do not use braid however, so I have no problems with the micros because I use YoZuri Hybrid Ultra Soft 12lb. test. I like all the Falcon rods and own several Lowriders and Caras too.
So... at this point I think every rod in the $100 price range has been mentioned except for Gander Mountain, Wright and McGill, Carrot Stix or Quantums...
Another rod that has not been mentioned yet is the Fewick Elite Tech Smallmouth. By far the best rod I own right now. I never get into the boat without it and I rarely put it down.
My one and only Carbonlite.

Took it back, replaced it with a Veritas and am much happier.

Sorry that happened but I think that was an exception and not the rule. I have kept up with the carbonlite and have heard very few breakage issues. The veritas on the other hand has had a lot of breaking issues. The biggest issue with the carbonlite is guide eyes falling out though I think they may have gotten that fixed now. Also think they have gotten a little bit of the handle on the veritas breaking, haven't heard as many recent reports n the issue. Mine has been great. Have landed several 5+ with no issues
St. Croix Mojo bass
I've only broken one Veritas to my own stupidity, and have never met a single person who owns one who has broken one either. Where the Veritas "breaking" stories are coming from, I dont know. I have yet to hear any actual problems from customers. Carbonlite on the other hand, I know many who have broken them, multiples even, and will never own one again.
Do a google search of veritas breaking. It was a VERY common complaint. I believe it was mainly with the first couple of batches. There are pages and pages discussing it. Where theres smoke theres fire. Then do the same for the carbonlite. There's just not that many talking about breaking. There are some, but that is not the common problem with them. Most complaints are with the eye guides and the placement of the hook keeper. I own both and have not had a lick of trouble out of either. I have landed a 7.5 on carbonlite and several 5+ on the veritas. If one breaks I will probably just replace it with the same thing.....
What action and length are you looking for? Tackle warehouse has a couple Powell max and Powell endurance rods for 109$. If you buy one of their 10% off gift cards you have yourself a less than 100$ baitcasting rod and I GUARANTEE you will not find a better rod for 100$
