Have you tried winding line back onto the spool before trying to pull on the loops?
Tom
PS, Havanese? Cute dog!
Don't look that bad ????
Try this if you haven't tried..
Jam your right thumb nail between the button and the spool then pull the line out the front.
You're trying to push the loop back over the line.
It may take a few tries.
Mike
Tried that already. I have all day today and this only 4lb line I have, man it sucks working with this tiny line and those d**n brushes behind me.
@WRBclose but not quite, he is pure Maltese.
Better then hooking your partner behind you. Not enough line to wind back on when that happens...snip snip, good bye line!
Tom
What also works some times is to tighten the drag, press your thumb on the spool on top of the mess and crank a few times. Repeat this several times and see what happens. Not a 100 percent solution, but I have, on occasion, had terrible messes on the water come out by doing this. A river guide taught me this years ago.

Can't do that, this is shallow spool so I only have less than 40yds. I got a spool of 18lb glissline for it but wanna save this line as much as I can.
@OnthePotomacyup that the first thing all bait caster should learn. This's #4 copolymer so I can't force too much any kink would damage the line.
That does not appear to be an Airy Red spool in that Airy Red? Is that a Ray's DIY spool? The small opening on the Pixy makes picking out backlashes difficult. Hard to get your fingers in there.
Try spraying silicone lubricant or line dressing on the spooled backlash, helps to prevent flattening the line. 4 lb test isn't easy to work with, that is why I use 5 lb Max Ultra Green, harder surface and extremely abrasion resistant line.
Good luck!
Tom
How much is your time worth? How much can you trust it if you get it out?
Actually done, a good picking tool, my supporters (dogs not the wife) and 3 or maybe 4 cigarettes later lol ????
@BaitFinesseyeah that Ray's Spool. I use this setup for 1/20oz Jig with Zman slim swimZ for my crappies adventure. Surprisingly I got about 40-50' pair with Daiwa Spinmatic UL.
Now on to the next ????
Try FINS WindTamer to prevent wind knots.
Turner Jones Micro Jigs if you can find them.
Tom
@WRBwhat size? I think I can handle double rig 1/32oz on both casting and spinning but 1/64 gonna be tough.
During spring I saw a few using bobber at night with tiny jig around crossways (rip rap) but this year, new rule we are not allowed to fish any crossways.
Turner Jones micro jigs are 1/64 and 1/128 oz and I use 1/64 with a Thill 3/8 dia pencile slip float if casting.
I don't know where to find the tiny Turner Jones jigs, they come a tiny glass tube and the black, olive green or chartreuse work extremely good for both trout and crappie.
Scroung around mom & pop tackle shops that may have some, didn't see any on eBay.
I have caught 3 to 4 lb bass and trout plus tons of big crappie on the tiny TJ micro jigs.

I can do way better than that without trying ????
Sometimes taking the spool out completely helps..

I recently saw this on a Bill Dance rerun.... It works.
Finally I'm so pumped right now.

SwimBait
1/20oz jig head with Zman Slim SwimZ with bobber about 2' down.
Tom....shouldn't it be Bait?, not Bait!. Or maybe you were just excited and Bait! is correct.
James, I agree with Catt. I can...and have...had backlashes that put that one to shame. Course it was with heavier line.
I took Tom’s comment to mean the crappie could be used for bait.
I met swimbait as a crappie swimbait.
That is a real feat casting a 2.9 gram/.10 oz swimbait with a baitcasting reel?

Yeah. Something I wouldn't even attempt to try. James is my new hero.
If you want to cast UL baits with the Ray's spool in the Pixy and find that you can't cast very hard for fear of a backlash then you can always fix the inductor of the spool into the extended position for more control. The Ray's spools are great for aerodynamic baits like inline spinners and small jigs and plastics combos coming in at 1/8 oz total weight. Once you get into UL baits like 1/32 jig heads and 1" plastics the Ray's aren't that good IMO. They lack the control needed to cast baits that light weight.
The best Daiwa UL baitcasters have been fixed inductor such as the Pixy Presso, Megabass Zonda BFS and Alphas Air Stream Custom. The UL baits struggle to activate the Air Brake of the Ray's spools and fixing the inductor into the extended position with super glue allows you to whip the rod around without fear of blowing up the spool.
As you continue to cast lighter weight baits and if you find yourself wanting more control then fixing the inductor on the Ray's spool is an option. Another option would be to buy a fixed inductor/linear mag brake UL casting reel like the $50 Trulinoya XF50 to try out the premise before irreparably modifying a $50 spool.
@BaitFinessethx for the inside info, but I'm not really into BFS stuff. I'm happy with 3 grams Lure, and so far I have not got any blow up yet, just abit overrun when cast into wind and equip with bobber. My ultimate goal is to be able to use this setup with Zoom Tiny Fluke(or double tiny Fluke). The UL rod I have is the one I bought 5-6 years ago for targeting stocked trout. I have all these trout/panfish lures for a long long time and glad to get to use it finally.
Glad you got it undone. I've backlashed 3 or 4 times this year by hitting something behind me when casting. No fun at all.
You are a brave soul throwing super light baits on 4lb line on a bait caster. I don't think I could handle it. Must be like fishing with heavy sewing thread.

There are those BFS clans that goes even lighter and smaller than me. I think some day, they might be able to cast Fly lures with casting gear. Don't count me in.
All right , how well does this ultra-light baitcasting work ?

It works well enough with the right equipment. I use casting reels for the "tiny winch mounted to a stick" when cranking is the primary means of moving the bait. I really don't like turning the handle on a spinning reel left or right handed. The reels can range from expensive (Aldebaran BFS, Alphas Air Stream Custom) to cheap (Trulinoya Wirlwind XF50). There are also cheap spools you can swap into regular reels to convert them into UL casting capable. I have a $30 9.5 gram Studio of Momo brand spool for my Abu Black Max 3 and $16 Ray's Studio micro ceramic bearings that allow the Black Max to cast down to a 1/32 oz beetle spin easily and without backlash.
Backlash like that is called a "$15 cast"

Wait, what? That is a load of BS from the association. I am tempted to buy property out there just to nag the Board to overthrow that rule and then sell it once the rule is rescinded.
James, if you want to start a letter writing campaign, I'll be happy to send a couple dozen letters on behalf of your neighbors... ????
@OCdockskipperthere are still some properties by the water that available. Come buy it, I'll maintain for ya lol.
There are quite a change in recent year, base on who got elected to be the president, of course. This past year I think he is also a president for water ski club so everything benefit water ski club. He was gonna put stop on fishing boat/kayak and float tube on north ski lake, but that failed so he used accident as excuse and prohibited all fishing on Crossways and docks if any boat or swimmers presented. He also set the time use on North Ski Lake by Water ski get to use water from morning until 2:00PM and surfboard can use after.
I told my wife to get involve in board of director but too bad not many Asian living here lol.

See, you can never trust a Water skier or a Jet skier.
For those of you who don't know the Canyon Lake area, the really chinzy thing about the times he selected is that there are afternoon desert winds every day, typically over 10mph. Mr Prez locked in the calm times for the skiers and gave up the times in which it is a pain to use the water to everyone else. What a schmuck!
