Reel Service From Delaware Valley Tackle 2025

fishing user avatarbuzzed bait reply :

Just wanted to take a minute and acknowledge some great work done by one of the site sponsors.  i recently sent 2 curado 51e's and a chronarch ci4+ to mike at DVT for some all around service.  all reels were received used so i was unsure of the previous conditions the reels may have been under.  i wanted them cleaned by a pro since i was surely to screw it up!

i worked it out with mike to have them supertuned, cleaned and install carbontex drag.  mike was great to work with even though it was his busy season.  i received the reels back and was just now able to get them out on the water.  the difference is amazing.  the chronarch is just flawless, and once dialed in nearly impossible to backlash.

i was throwing a 1/4 oz popper on one of the 51e's using 8lb yozuri INTO THE WIND and it was throwing them with no problems at all.

just wanted to take a minute and let you know my experiences with mike at DVT.  if you're like me and know you need to service your reels, but know that you're not the man for the job, give mike a call or email him and let him do all the work.

Mike has done several reels for me.  My new Curado 51E went to him for a cleaning before I used it.  Wish I had it supertuned while there.  My second 51E...purchased used...had to be repaired.  By then I was a little smarter.  It is now supertuned and has upgraded bearings and Carbontex drag.  Not that it needed supertuning, but I like it done anyway for my own pleasure.

yeah i thought the 51e's were great beforehand..... after i received them back (supertuned) from mike i was amazed that they were somehow even smoother than before!

Mike suppertuned my Curado 50E and 200E and throughly cleaned a Stella.

All three were "perfect" or so I thought...Now they are!

thanks for sharing. i now know where to send my reels. :)

but i have questions, does it make sense to buy a used reel and send it to a pro to fix it? can u still save some coins that way? why not buy a new reel?

Some used reels aren't in production any more, but are still very great reels.

As noted there are MANY great reels and platforms not being utilized amy more by manufacturers that have become favorites of some folks. Take the TDZ for example with all of its tuning options. Also keep in mind the savings in buying reels used but in great shape. I have seen reels like the Steeze sell for under $300 despite the fact that these were over $500 when new prior to closeout prices.

Paying $20-30 for service to get the reel performing as it should it a good trade off. One could still come out saving $100s going this route.

fishing user avatarSiebert Outdoors reply :

Mike does a great job.  He fixed one of my problem reels up for me not too long ago.

He is also very helpful.  He has given me some good info on extending a handle on a rod.  More on this later.

the reels that i sent mike were bought/traded for unbelievable value on my part so i saved a ton by doing so.  not to mention they were in a better than new state when i received them back!

mike also went out of his way once to assist me remotely in fixing a "greenie" curado that i had messed up when putting it back together.  he did this for absolutely nothing (which made me an instant customer)

It depends on the reel and the deal. Plus, a serviced reel in good condition will outperform a new one right out of the box. If you're ever unsure, contact me before sending reels. My refusal to "oversell" is a main tenant of my business philosophy.

Thank you everyone else for your kind words.

fishing user avatarkingmotorboat reply :

I plan on sending my 3 for cleaning and tuning after the fall I need to get a quote to know the damage lol

fishing user avatarDelaware Valley Tackle reply :

Cleaning Service is $19.80 for members here ($22-10%). Shipping is extra (postage only). On three reels I'd guess $8 +/- depending on where you are.

fishing user avatarDocNsanE reply :

I am assuming us Canadians can also work you over at DVT? either for reels or custom rods?

I'd have to be getting a good deal, or a reel I had to have (and no longer in production) if I were to buy a reel I knew needed repair.  I have received 4 used reels that needed some work.  However, I didn't know that before buying.  One reel the seller probably thought was okay as it didn't lock up until after about 30-40 minutes of use.  I now have more than fair market value in the reel, but it is one out of production, highly thought of and one sweet reel now.  Plus I have no plans of ever selling it so I wasn't upset.   A second one had a small piece of plastic holding the thumb release break during shipping.  I wasn't concerned as the part cost $5 and I got a very good deal on the reel.  Seller could have packed it a little better to keep it from moving in its box, but as they say "Hind sight is 20/20."

The second 51E had a bent pin which was why I couldn't get the side cover off to adjuxt the brakes.  Mike straightened it as best he could.  He didn't order a replacement for the 50 cent part because shipping would have been 10 times that.

On the other hand I have received used reels that looked brand new...such as a Zillion 50th Anniversary, Tatula, Alphas ito 103ai, Chronarch 100B and Tournament Pro to name a few.

I had DVT go through a tdz for me little while back and that thing was amazing when I got it back! He's currently working on a citica 200e for me and I can't wait to see how it performs after the supertune. I won't send my reels anywhere but DVT

that tatula you got off of me was nearly new.....  :mad10:   (<that's me still shaking my head for selling it)

i would never buy one thinking it needed repairs.  but it does give one peace of mind after you send them in and get them back in better than new condition!

Yes, I've worked on all those models before. Having a solid spool shaft design they each benefit from Super Tuning.

All you have to do is click on the DVT emblem in the upper right hand corner of this forum.  I believe the link has already been posted in this thread, but here it is again.  Mike's phone number is near the bottom of the page.

Sorry, Justin, I had already forgotten who I got the Tatula from.  I appreciate guys like you.  You all keep me supplied with some very nice low cost (my price) reels.  :teeth:
