What reels should I put on? 2025

Ok I got two new shimano crucial 6'6" mh fast tip baitcast rods, and was wondering what reels I should put on them. I have always used quantum buy maybe you guys will open my eyes up to something new.
Also I am usually using 7' rods so any certain techniques you guys can recommend for these rods?
Lets have fun and get creative with this!

Can't really go wrong with a shimano citica or a curado.Depends on how much money you looking to spend.

Not bashing the Shimano posse, but there's an awful lot of "monkey see-monkey do" going on around here. There are lots of good reels out there, but you're about to covered up with Citica/Curado recommendations.

I just said shimano because it would be cool to pair it with a shimano rod.If you going to buy a shimano rod why stop there?
Personally me,I'd be putting a Revo STX or a Dawia Fuego on it....I really don't have much bad to say about Shimano,abu garica or Dawia upper end reels.It's all personal preference if you asked me.

They make great reels. What's wrong with that?

True, they make decent reels. Contrary to popular belief, however, "Shimano" is not the answer to every question.

I haven't used the wide variety of reels that some around here have but I think the BPS Pro Qualifier is a nice choice. It's on sale for $80 right now. I paid $99 for mine a year ago and I still feel like I got a steal. I love it.

get a good used Zillion and dont worry about how the rod is supposed to be used. MH/F will do a lot of things well.

I agree, I fished with a Zillion yesterday and it "just felt right". Fit my hand perfectly. I'm gonna have to find one to put on my Champion 735c.
It was noticeably smoother than my Curado. For the longest time I thought they would have been HUGE and really clunky, but to my surprise, it was very small.

I would like to see you reccomend something instead of making inflammatory comments that are not needed.

MH F is a great for bottom contact applications. That rod length is also good for jerkbaits, topwater and traps.

As for reels, just pick your favorite in your price range. Read a ton of reviews, research what other people are using & why and just make your own decision.
I have (2) Curados which I love but also have a Revo Winch and just ordered a Quantum Smoke.
Zillion is a really nice reel. For me it wasn't $100 nicer that a Curado; same with the Revo Premier.

I agree with the suggested techniques also.
I'm a Quantum guy as well but I have a couple of Daiwa Excelers(6.3 and 7.x) and I also have a Cabelas Prodigy which is made by Daiwa.
Read the reviews and get your hands on some of the suggested reels and go with what feels good to you.

You want a suggestion? Ok, here we go...
Drive to your local tackle shop and handle every reel they have in your pice range. Once you've done that, handle every reel they have that's slightly above and/or below your price range. Find one that fits your hand, your needs, and your budget and buy it. Be sure to let us know which one you picked.
We could all sit here and recite page after page of BPS' catalog, but that really won't help the OP. What I find comfortable or desirable in a reel, he may find useless or even irritating. Different strokes and all that...

I would like to stay under 200.00 per reel. I have only used quantum and really like them just thought maybe I would branch out into something different!

If you dont mind buying from fellow forum members, I would try to get a new/used curado for around $140. and take the money you save and put that towards a revo premier or a different brand at the 260-280 range.
That would give you two reels(one on the higher end) from two different and very good companies.
I agree with Stasher1 on one thing....go to a shop and check out the reels you are interested in first. there may be something that instantly turns you off to some reels.

I am going to cabelas on Tuesday to pick up a few things for my tournament this weekend. I will try and go through as many as I can come up with a few I really like then ask about those. That way we can narrow it down.
