Probably asked 100 times... 2025

fishing user avatarN.Y. Yankee reply :

But can't find much by searching. What is your favorite mono and why?

fishing user avatarLog Catcher reply :

I use Sufix Siege in 12# on my baitcasters and 10# on spinning rods. It has handled really well for me and has great abrasion resistance. I have not had any problems with it at all. I have not tried that many different mono lines. Once I find something I like I stay with it. Everybody has their own opinion as to what is their favorite and why. There is no clear cut answer as to which one is the best.

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

I don't always use mono, but when I do it's Sunline Shooter Defier Armilo Nylon Line ~

Handles well, Lasts on the spool, Casts great, Exhibits superior knot strength and has as much abrasion resistance as one could ask for from mono.

fishing user avatarDarren. reply :

I no longer use straight mono except when I tie weed guards.

Prefer using a copolymer like Yo-Zuri Hybrid as leader for braid

mainline. Just how I roll.

Go Yanks! Don't follow baseball much anymore, but when I

lived in NJ in late 70s and the early 80s, was able to go to

several games to see Jackson, Guidry, Randolph, Dent, Gossage,

Murcer, Munson (RIP), Tommy John, and the greats. Fun times.

fishing user avatarSpoons1 reply :

Still Berkly big game. Strong as hell and very easy to manage and tie knots with.. Suffix pro mix comes in 2nd. I know ill get crap for this but cajun red is another favorite of mine.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Seaguar Rippin'

fishing user avatarnew2BC4bass reply :

Love the visibility of Siege Neon Tangerine.  Line also handles well.  Lots of good mono lines available today.  I am also a fan of co-polymers.

fishing user avatarRB 77 reply :

Izorline XXX. Great line at a great price. I'm using Sufix Elite right now on a few reels, but the jury is still out. Big Game wins for the most affordable quality line. I just prefer the way Izor handles and don't mind the couple bucks extra.

fishing user avatarCountryboyinDC reply :

Stren Original.  For real.  I have no idea what other monofil is like, I have only used Trilene and whatever was cheapest when I was a kid otherwise.  I use monofil a lot for crankbaits and topwater (which is quite a few rigs), and other things in a pinch.  I didn't think this was terrible line, but I don't see it getting much love by serious anglers.

That's because its not terrible, its just fine. Its just that there are what many considered to be better options available.

For the past 6 months I've really enjoyed the 10# Sufix Advance I have spooled on a baitcaster. It handles well, ties great knots, it's surprisingly sensitive and has much lower stretch than "normal" nylon or fluorocarbon lines of similar diameter.

fishing user avatarjimmyjoe reply :

I use Big Game. Tried Sufix Advance, and went back to Big Game.

What I consider kinda funny is the effect "fashion" has on line choice.  Five years ago such-and-such line was really great, and nowadays it's put down by many fishermen. Or vice-versa.

In reality, results are due to the person doing the fishing, not the line.    jj

fishing user avatarBig Rick reply :

Cajun Line by Zebco. Like Big Game but colored RED. Some think the line color makes a difference and some don't. Regardless, the line is tough, low memory, just the right amount of stretch, and is cheap. 14 lb. is all you'll ever need to chase green and brown bass.

It's still my favorite. I've tried several and keep coming back.

For casting reels, I've used Big Game for years. Tough, dependable and priced right

fishing user avatarscaleface reply :

I use Big Game for most applications  . On my worm/jig combo I use  Trilene xl , only because it come in clear blue fluorescent  . I dont like not being able to see my line when I'm bouncing a lure .

Trilene XL. Cheaper than a can of Skoal

fishing user avatarGlenn reply :

I'm very impressed with Seaguar Rippin' mono.  Easy casting, low memory, great knot strength.  Everything you'd expect from a good mono.

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

Berkley Big Game Mean Green 15# ????

From my 35 yrs of anecdotal evidence, the best abrasion resistant, shock absorption, & high knot strength.

X2 on the Sunline Defier lines, they are great.

I would use it if I was paid to as well.

I use Big Game for treble hook lures, spinnerbaits and buzzbaits. It's extremely tough and dirt cheap.

I use braid for all single hook baits. I just started using straight braid for jigs. I've seen no dropoff in bites. Before that I was using braid with a short leader of 15# Big Game.

fishing user avatarHulkster reply :

Another Sufix Siege user here. i love the stuff. I typically use 12 pound test on my casting rig and 10 on my spinning rig but i sometimes go up and down a line size depending on what i am doing.

fishing user avatarnewyorktoiowa57 reply :

Suffix Siege, I got 1000 yards for like 10 bucks on TW.  It handles very well, and  is precision would.  Probably the most value I have gotten for $10 in fishing.

fishing user avatarAllen Der reply :

another vote for sufix siege 12lb on a baitcaster.  usually use trliene xl 8lb on spinning.
