Couldnt pass this deal up. Never used, perfect swimbait outfit.
Start with a Daiwa TD-Z BBS. Send it off to ZPI in Japan for a custom white pearl paint job. Add an Studio Ocean Mark handle. Then have all the Aluminum parts anodized blue by Big Phil in Chicago.
Now for a custom itchy stick. Start with a Lamiglas blank XLB 90 1MH 8' 15-30 lb 1-6 oz. Have it custom painted white at the factory. Then it's off to itchy for some super work on a great casting grip, cut down to 7'8, intricate butt wrap, painted reel seat, spiral wrap guides with blue thread and blue inserts.
Pictures do not do this rod/reel justice.
Nice....I was shocked when it went up for sale on Tackle Tour; that dude seemed crazy about that combo....it was his avatar for cryin' out loud. When somebody spends that kind of time putting together a unique combo like that, it is always surprising if it goes up for sale. He must have hit hard times, because I know he loved that combo. I can't believe he never fished it; I truly love high end gear and take the utmost care of mine, but not fishing it is an abomination. You better give that puppy a workout!
Robert that is bad A $ $ But...... I know the blue line matches the reel and all but I think 20-25lb maxima fluoro in CLEAR might be better
Did I mention that combo is bad A $ $ !!!!!!!

Sorry for the OT reply: but what are you doing up so late Matt? I guess it's just after last call. if I go out and get shittty, I'm generally doing something else at this time of morning .
All I have to say is DAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! That is a sick looking setup. Hope it fishes as well as it looks.
That is a very good looking combo, but looks don't catch the fish. Hope you catch alot of fish on it man. Enjoy the HE?? out of it.
One of the most impressive looking combos I've seen, for sure.
Not surprised RLR ended up with that one. That is a beautiful combo... Congrats!
That is absolutely beautiful! I know a lot of people like the stealth black on black looks which are nice also, but I personally like the white look better. I am very curious how much something like that would cost to have done (not how much you paid) but that is a lot of custom work. I'm guessing 1-1.5k?
that is sick ars bad looking right there, I love the reel handle,
I don't like the color of the blue anodized stuff but the rest of that reel is SAHWEET!
I'm surprised he sold that. He even used the reel in his avatar. Nice pick-up Redline.
BTW, when is that frog rod by Otter Rods supposed to be done?
That paint job on the reel looks awesome!!!
Thanks for the comments guys. When it was posted for sale he sent me a IM, I made him an offer and told him if it doesnt sell, this is what I'm willing to pay. I'm honestly shocked it didnt sell. He put an incredible mount of time and money putting this outfit together. To recreat this outfit now you are looking at well over 2x what I ended up paying for it.
Matt, as soon as I got it I took the line off. Still trying to decide what line will go on this outfit. For starters, I'll be using this rod and reel to throw that custom bait you made for me to use n Brazil. Finally going this November, as last years trip was completely ditched due to bad weather.
The action on this rod is perfect for larger swimbaits. As mentioned I'll be breaking it in during my peacock bass trip. In the meantime, I'm sending the reel to D.R. to upgrade the drag and bearings. Then the real will be purrrrfect. The rod is balanced perfectly by the way, and with the spiral wrapped guides its built to perfection.
Micro,
The custom frog stick should be done in the coming month. I ended up getting the Megabass Slant Bridge handle (actually I found 2 of them ) so that will be incorporated into the build. I wasn't expecting to get my hands on that rod til sometime late this year anyway. As soon as it is built you can be sure it will end up here with a full detail of the build.
Which reminds me, I need to start building a reel for that rod as well.
RLR, Im not overly familiar with the upgrades, so if I may, who is D.R?
thnx
D.R. is the resident reel guru over at TT. I'll send you a PM.
Dont like the rod but that reel is SEXY!!!!!
Hmmmm, I think the rod and reel are sexy...
Very nice..
Just what you clearly needed Robert, ANOTHER custom rod and reel. :

hahaha. I know. I'm limiting my purchaes to stuff stuff that is hard to find or just different now. This definitely fits the bill.

Does anyone have a website or email address for Otter Rods?

Matt's website, http://s163.photobucket.com/albums/t288/Otterods/
ArcticCat500, way to much hype on the megabass website, not for me.
Chris W, if thats the website for Otter Rods then the website is pityful, maybe they think they dont need to advertise and simple word of mouth does it for them. Wish they at least had an email address.
if anyone finds out how to get in touch with them, I too am interested.

Best way to get in touch with him is go to the Tackle Tour website and send him a PM. He absolutely does not need a website word of mouth is enough. His rods are absolute works of art I have done alot of research on custom rod builders and his rods always come up no matter what forum you are on. They are not cheap by any means.

Steezy,
I hear you on the Megabass website. However, considering that you're a fan of high end tackle, I suggest you look past the website
Companies lik Megabass, Evergreen and Gan Craft make some unbelievable rods. The amouunt of detail they build into them is 2nd to none. Oh and did I mention that Daiwa has a whole line of Steez rods that are built solely for the Japanese market? Take into consideration the 6'5" Flex-Lite Steez rod, I've had the JDM version since 2007. They call it the Blitz. Most rods from Japan also come with a very cool neoprene zippered rod sleeve. nice details that you dont see on US rods.
As far as Otter Rods, Matt Davis, owner, builds rods that are JDM in quality. You will not be dissapointed in his work, trust me. What I found helpful was to order the JDM catalog from Matagi, (http://www.matagi.co.jp/english/index.html) and pick out components you want. The price goes up quickly though
Matt is currently building me the ultimate horny toad stick. Since G Loomis doesnt sell the GLX 893 blank, I sent Matt a rod and he stripped it too the blank. Rebuilding it with Matagi and Megabass components, I can't wait to get back "Rodzilla". ;D
Matt can be reached by email: otterrods@hotmail.com
man that is a really nice set up. love the color, white and blue are my favs. the blue line is a nice touch.
