Rod For Curado 50E 2025

I just picked up a NIB Curado 50e last night. 
And so here I am 
posting about it.
Now I'm left searching for a rod 
far too many options out there. And that leads to more confusion 
I plan to use this for light jigs (3/8 and smaller), worms and creatures, both weighted and unweighted.
I spooled it up with some 16lb Sunline Sniper I had and it actually holds more than I thought. I'd plan on either keeping this line on or switching to a lighter fluoro.
I'd like to keep my rod price under $150.00
I'd prefer a longer rod, over 7'
What do you guys recommend???
(Me looking at options)
If the rods available at Gander I have a couple gift certificates so the price can creep up to $190.00 if they carry it.

First off, your over use of emotions has me a bit worried 
That 190 price tag would want to make me jump all over a St. Croix Avid. I had my 50E on a 7' MHM cranking rod and the two went together like peas and carrots. I ended up sticking it on something different as the 50E was too fast for cranking, but I have my heart set on another Avid next month. I would suggest a 7' or longer Avid in a Medium XF action.

SORRY for this post, i misread the original post with the price around 150, but the quantums will fit in your price range. cumara line is super light and new line runs about 240, if your not to worried about the combo matiching, try a quantum smoke or the exo runs about 140-180, falcon cara micro guide runs bout 230-280 and all those rods come in various models 7+. e21 wild black rod is way light and comes in a 7'3 mh runs about 140. not for certain is those are offered there but they are bigger names so hope they have something for u, some ppl might think that some rods need more of a meatier feel in thier hand cz the reel is so small and light, but i really like the 7'2 cara swim and cumara 7'2 mh fast tip for what ur expaining here, but my best advice is ask the associates if u can take the reel back there and feel the reel on the rods, maybe they can give u a sticker or something where u wont have any problms playin with the rods and the feel, sounds like fun to me!!! but good luck and hope this helps you!

Hootie, would you recommend the micro or standard Savvy? I haven't had much experience with Dobyns as St Croix is all the rage in Wisconsin.

I on the other hand don't mind a bunch of emoticons. 
Lure weight suggests a Medium Fast would be ideal. Line weight is near the top rating for most Medium rods that I have. I really like my 6'10" MF Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth rod. I have a Curado 51E with 8# Big Game on this rod. St. Croix Premier is in your price range. Don't know a thing about the Gander Mountain house brands, but several of the GSX models are currently on sale. Falcon Bucoo is another good rod within your price limit.
I don't see Dobyns listed on Gander Mountain's website. They do carry the Pinnacle Perfecta that has gotten some good reviews on here. Just a few $$ over your limit.

Mine have the standard guides. I had a couple of Duckett Micro Magic rods. I gave them to my son. To aggravating trying to put line through those tiny guides. Yeah, I'm an old guy. But I know some people love "em".

If I am using straight flouro or mono then micro's are ok. If you use any kind of a leader, micros are a pain in the ass.

The problem I had with pairing my 50E with a MF Avid..it didn't balance the best. To me it didn't feel like the complimented each other well, it's a good rod though. The Lexa 100 I have on it, balances far better imo.
As for the 50E, I'd put it on a Cumara..you can find an old gen 1 if you can, they are going around that price. 7'2 M/F would be an awesome setup with it.

Although I like Hootie and trust his judgement , but the Savvy series as a bottom contact rod is horrid. I tried a friend of mine's Savvy, it felt dead in my hands. The Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth I was fishing was far superior for feel. Of course sensitivity is subjective, but I was just amazed how crappy the feeling was. Other suggestions go with a Phenix rod or Fenwick Elite Tech. The weight of both that I have experience fishing balances well with a 50 size reel.

This rod is way over your budget but I would look for a used one. The rod is a loomis imx 783 or I guess in your case an 843. I have the 783 and 50e and its a match made in heaven. Perfectly balanced and can throw basically everything. I'm sure there are newer cheaper rods out there that might perform as well or better but with that combo in hand it doesn't matter.

I agree with this statement 100%. The Savvy is no bueno for bottom contact. Great rod for moving baits, super well balanced. Lighter rods balance better with a 50 size reel. Recons and Cumaras would fit well in your price range. The Omens and Powell Max/Endurance balance better with the 100 size IMO.

I'm using a 50e on the 6'10" Medium Fenwcik. I agree, hands down, with everything stated above. I'm running 8 pound fluoro on mine.

Anyone have any experience with Okuma rods? Small local family shop carries them and I like to support the little guy whenever I can.
They also carry St. Croix so I'll probably head up there with my reel to try out the balance on them.

This rod even balances well with my Citica Gs and Lexa 100 (although the big foot profile of the Lexa isn't ideal to keep on the Fenwick) it balanced well too.

I can't say my setup is Better than the other recommended but ill tell you what I have and am completely satisfy with it regardless of the price point.
I have my 51E paired with a 7'0 MH *** ***. It is well balance and sensitive enough for me to detect bites on weightless plastics using 50lb braids. I did put the reel on my Phenix recon just to try it and it feels good too but didnt fish with it because I'm waiting for the 201e to pair up with that rod.
Both rod are excellent but I tend to favor the *** more just because it feels better in my hand. I haven't fish enough to see which one is more sensitive.

thefishranger.com has Powell Endurance rods for $109! I have 10 Powells and absolutely love them. Have tried the Savvy (felt dead), Avid (tip heavy), Phenix Recon (good rod, but not a Powell IMO), and Cumara (just didnt fit me) and the Powell is my favorite. If you want a 7'2" m/xf Cumara I have one Ill sell you for $150 shipped...

I have to agree with both ULG and Imbfisherman: The Shimano Cumara 7'2" older model is perfect for the Curado 50 and other small reels like the Daiwa Sol, the Pixy, and even the Steez.
I find the sensitivity is excellent and the balance makes the outfit effortless to cast..
Keep your eyes peeled and one comes up now and then. Who knows, you may be able to snag a Cumulus, which I find is even better.

Welcome home! My Cumara 7'2" MHF carries a tuned Fuego. Another nice combo. A Cumulus would be great, but way out of my price range.

i dont know how the new cumaras compare to the older ones, pros and cons i heard from both sides but id like to get my hands on one for sure, might be hard to get u a gen 1 cumara at gander mtn but the new crucials are nice but its not a cumara for sure buuuuuut they are anywhere from 60 to 80 dollars less too. i wud like to get ahold of another 7'2 hvy cumara gen 1 tho! i have a few of the 7'2s and they great all around rods for sure! i would just think that with the size of the 50/51 series that a heavier rod would over power the beneift of having such a smaller reel. in that regard, get a slightly heavier reel and a lighter rod, it my weigh the same as the combo u have if not balances to your likings. but thats my poor mans opinion! lol! bass resource... best forum alive!!!!

Well I'd like to thank you all for the input. Here's how I came to my decision:
I walked into the family ran sporting goods store and told them what I was looking to do. The guy apologizes that he doesn't have a ton in stock (understandable, stocking rods is pricey). He show's me a few St. Croixs and Shimano's, all of which have a whole grip handle, which I found I'm not a fan of if its not a rod for musky.
He show's me a Okuma EVX split grip, rated to 20lb line, its somewhere between a medium and a medium-heavy. I love the tip on it, very sensitive. I told him I'd take it, he said since it isn't what you came in looking for let me see what we can do. He gave me a very nice price on it. I've only had it out bank fishing so far, but I really like it, fishes like a rod that'd cost $50-$75 more than what they list at.
As always, the fishing bait monkey will keep me looking, but so far I'm pretty sure the EVX will stay in the line up, if not with the 50e then with another quality bc.

hey man! if the shoe fits, wear it and glad u got a great deal on a rod!!! and i myself can say ive squeezed into to some ill fitting shoes only cz the price was right and the another thing is that u have ur credits to gander mountain so you can get whatever else u might want to get, not too sure if they have it but maybe get you a new curado e50 and start again with your search for a new rod!!! thats what i would do any way! lol glad u got fixed up and good luck on ur future outtings!!!

Update 2.0
Went into another local dealer today and found a St. Croix Legend Tournament, medium xf 6'9" for half price!!! I had to jump on that, so the Okuma EVX will move to other things. It seems this is the year I upgrade rods!
