Pitching/worm/jig rod under 60 2024

fishing user avatartrick worms reply :

What's a good rod under 60 for the techniques listed above?

fishing user avatarTodd2 reply :

I'm an All-Star fan..haven't bought one in a while but Academy should have them close to that.

fishing user avatarGORDO reply :

I think you can find a veritas(not the 2.0) or a vendetta for $70 bucks and its worth the extra $10.

also, I would go MH 7'

Thanks. Have you used the 40 dollar ones or the AST ones?

fishing user avatarTodd2 reply :

I'm guessing the AST, I own about 5 of them and they seem to last longer than anything else I've bought. I've owned one for over 10 years. I've paid anywhere from $50 to $70 over the years ... depending on the sale

fishing user avatarS. Sass reply :

I hear the H2O Ethos rods are well worth the $60. I haven't used them but the reviews I've seen are good.

fishing user avatarBruce424 reply :

Check out cabelas or bass pro shops house rods. The rods with their name on it.

fishing user avatar1201vilbig reply :

+1 on the H2O Ethos. Great rods for the $. The composite crankin' rod is a steal.

fishing user avatarRFSims reply :

H2O Ethos 7' Heavy fast. Not as good as my Phenix, but not far behind. IMO best rod for the money on the planet.

fishing user avatarFish4bigfish reply :

I fish worms and jigs about 50 percent of my time on the water. Your bottom contact rod should not be a cheap rod. The sensitivity will not be there at this price point. Reaction techniques are great for cheaper rods. Of course we get what we can afford. I saved for several pay checks to get my jig rod and I am glad I waited.

fishing user avatarfishnkamp reply :

I agree with Fish4bigfish. If you save a little more a Dobyns Fury 735C is worth every penny of its $110. For roughly $75 you can find a Veritas 2 7ft3 MH fast action rod on Amazon. Most veritas rods are a little on the heavy side so I would think this rod would work fine.  I have a lot of higher priced rods but I do fish two of the Veritas originals and one of them I use for deep jigs.

If $60 is your true budget look at a Diawa AridX 7'3" MH fast it lists 1/4  to 1 ounce it may work. Also look at *** Hellbent rod. There is a 7'3 and a 7'6" and even a 7'11" all say mh or hvy fast and range from 3/8 to 1 or 1 1/2. They might be your best choices at $59.00 from TW

I have a berkley lightning rod that I use for lighter bass jigs which works marvelous.,.. i think I paid like $40 twelve years ago

So I guess all the bass caught on rods at this price point don't count.

Academy H2O, All Star, Berkley, BPS house rods are all good quality rods.

fishing user avatartrick worms reply :

I was looking at the AST rod by all star. 7 foot medium heavy Carolina rig rod. Are they good rods? I would get an h20 ethos but bluebasser 88 told me the 7 foot medium heavy fishes more like a medium.

Mine are the 6'6 Worm rods. I've looked at the Carolina Rig rod, it'll probably be my next rod. I like 6'6 for Texas rigs, drop shot, jigs, etc.

Ouch didn't say that. I'm sure you could fish a jig with an ugly stick and have some success.

I've won large tournaments with Lighting Rods while fishing out of a modified Jon boat.

There are few of us on this site who have done it!

@trick worms I bought an All Star recently from Academy for $35 tax included!

Looking at either the 40 dollar one or the AST. Is the AST worth the extra money? (70 vs 40)

^^^^This. I have a few Cabela's Pro Guides and they are good rods. I don't have any flipping rods from Cabela's but the quality of their other rods is pretty good for the price.

With your limited budget I would buy 2 Classic rods!

fishing user avatarfishnkamp reply :

Here is something to consider. I own one of the 7 foot MH rods. This rod is a IM8 blank and only weighs 4 oz. I matched mine with a Shimano Chronarch 7.3-1 reel. They match up nice. It rates for 1/4 to 11/2 ounce lures. I use mine for jigs, texas rigs and carolina rigging.  It has surprisingly good sensitivity. Dicks regularly sold them for $99. They often put them on sale for $49,99. That is what I paid for it.  Now they show up in Dicks system as "not in stock". They are available directly from Field and Stream at this address: http://www.fieldandstreamshop.com/p/quantum-escalade-casting-rod/16qutuscld66mhcstrod?camp=CSE:GooglePLA:16QUTUSCLD66MHCSTROD:14436791-FNS:Casting

They are selling them for $49.99 with free shipping so that is a no brainer to me.

But, like you said Catt, "those fish don't count"...lol. Even though I have a bunch of G Loomis rods, I started this season fishing "bottom contact baits" with Lightning rods. Caught a bunch of bass. Posted pictures of some of them. But, not to worry, I didn't count them.

And why do you fish g loomis? It doesn't make a difference right?

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

The Ethos from Academy are the way to go in that price range. You can get them on sale pretty regularly for around $40. Their MH is a little light, I use it for rattle traps actually. Their 7' H/F makes a pretty decent jig/t rig rod though.

I fish what I want. Never had to ask permission before. Not gonna start now. I've said it before, I believe sensitivity has more to do with the hands than the rod. Any more questions?.....lol.

Thanks. If the medium heavy fishes like a medium, does the heavy fish like a medium heavy?

Agreed.  The mh ethos fishes similarly to an 843 loomis in regards to how the blank behaves.  More ideal for spinnerbaits/chatterbaits imho, but I've 'gotten'r done' using just about anything with this rod at local ponds.

All Star Pro Series PH826C 6' 10" Medium Heavy Fast

I use this one to throw spinnerbaits & lipless cranks, it has longer handle which let's you get longer cast.

All Star ASCC846CR 7' 0" Medium Heavy Fast

It's factory designated a Carolina Rig, weights 3/8-1 oz,  my son uses it for 1/2 to 3/4 with an occasional 1 oz  flipping/pitching

All Star ASTC786WRM 6' 6" Medium Heavy Fast

My grandson uses it for Texas Rigs

fishing user avatarTodd2 reply :

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the ones mentioned, I'm sticking with All Star....final answer. :)

How do you think the classic 7 foot medium heavy would do for 3/16 oz Texas rigs?

Can't beat a lightning rod,  Either dobyns champion or champion extreme. If I'm looking for anything else it's a lighting rod. No middle of the road in my eyes. 53 bucks I just paid for one and they are sweet and sensitive
