Fishing line gets cut 2024

fishing user avatarManny Escobar reply :

I have a problem, when I tie a lure on my line and i tighten the knot the line breaks. I haven't changed out the line. I received the rod and the line that was on there is the line that I have been using and I haven't had a problem with it till now. I've caught fish on in and this has never been a problem for me.  This is the first time it has happened to my rod and I've had this rod for three years. It happens on every lure and I can't use it because I'm afraid when I hook a peacock bass the line will cut and I will lose the lure. Can u plz help me and tell me what is going on. I'm freaking out because now I can't fish with out that reel or line.

Welcome aboard, Manny!

How old is the line on the reel? 3 years, as well?

Also, what kind of line is it? I'm assuming mono.

You might want to change it out for braid which
will last for a long time.

Also, are you using spinning gear?

fishing user avatarFish4bigfish reply :

Replace the line to start with. What knot are you using. Tie a good knot, lubricate with spit and tighten slowly.

fishing user avatarManny Escobar reply :

I'm doing the improved clinch knot. And then what line should I put on it.

Yes it is a spinning real

fishing user avatarJtrout reply :

Change the line where is your rod stored? Inside or outside?

fishing user avatarManny Escobar reply :

I'm not sure what line it is. When they handed it to me I tied a pure and let it fly. So I don't know what line it is. Maybe your right

It was in he garage and for about a month it's been outside because I have been throwing my rubber lures in my pool to see if I hooked it correctly

ok I will change the line but to what test and things like that

What kind of set up do you have? Spinning, spincasting, or bait casting?

You can also take it to a local store like Bass Pro or a local fishing shop
and have them spool it up for you with an inexpensive line.

fishing user avatarManny Escobar reply :

Ok but with what test and things like that. Mono or what. It's a spinning. Is Javi it outside or throwing it in my pool a problem. I throw my rubber worms and things like that to see if I hooked it up correctly

fishing user avatarcpvenom reply :

Prolonged exposure to sunlight will weaken mono type lines. That may be why the line suddenly became weaker. I say throw some new line on and move on from there

fishing user avatarManny Escobar reply :

Ok what type of line mono or what. And test?

It's for peacock bass and large mouth

fishing user avatarscaleface reply :

Change line . Start using the trilene knot, its a lot like the improved cinch but stronger, its a 100 percent  kot . Check your line guides for cracks . A crack will damage the line everytime it goes through the guide . . I had that problem before . I heard you can run a q-tip around each guide and a crack will pull out fibers .

fishing user avatarManny Escobar reply :

I've checked for the guide problem and that's not an issue I know when that is because I can see the line fraid. The question that no one has answers is what line type. Mono or what and what test? I'm going for peacock bass and largemouth

fishing user avatarfishnkamp reply :

I would pull off all of your old line. Get some fresh mono like Trilene XL or Bass Pro Excel in like 12  or 14 pound test.  I would fill your spool up 1/2 the way with that line. Then tie a uni to uni knot and fill your spool the rest of the way with Power Pro Spectra in 30 pound test.  If the water there is really clear I would add a 3 to 6 foot leader made up of P Line CXX in 10 or 12 pound text and it would be in the moss green color. That line is really super tough. It breaks closer to 20 pound test.  If you are not sure enough to tie that up just go to your local tackle shop and they will get you all done.

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

The line size or lb test can depend on the spinning reel size, what make and model is the reel and rod?

You can test the line by wrapping a few turns round each hand and snapping your hands apart, the shouldn't break easily.

With fresh water size spinning reels I wouldn't use mono heavier than 10 lb test, Berkley Trilene XL is a popular line.

I'm not with the rod now but when I get there I'll let u know. When I wrap it around my hands and do that the line snaps

The line is bad!

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Hmm...

Let's start with new line.

fishing user avatard-camarena reply :

Easy, 15lb braid or 10 pound mono

Easy, 15lb braid or 10 pound mono

fishing user avatarManny Escobar reply :

What's better for peacock and largemouth bass?

fishing user avatargeo g reply :

Classic old line!  Change it and don't leave the rod in direct sunlight or hot places.  I'm sure new quality line will solve your problems.

fishing user avatarEvanT123 reply :

When you finish your initial wraps on the clinch knot put the tag end threw the opposite side you have been doing previously and see if that helps.

fishing user avatarManny Escobar reply :

Ok and what line do I use. I'm going for peacock bass and largemouth. In Florida. What test and what type of line. Like mono or what

fishing user avatartimsford reply :

I like trilene XL on spinning reels. Usually 10 lb test for all around use. I'd suggest mono, but braid will last longer and work better in the Florida weeds. In braid I'd suggest 20 or 30 lb test. I don't really like fluorocarbon on spinning tackle because of memory, unless you want to spend the money on tatsu

fishing user avatarManny Escobar reply :

Ok thanks

Ok thanks

you should try mono in 12lb Sufix Siege or Trilene XL, should be plenty for largemouth or peacocks. until you learn a little more about lines ignore all the talk of backing for braid and leaders and the likes. also be sure not to spool too much line onto the reel, leave about an 1/8inch lip around the spool on your reel. but it really would help if you could tell us the size of your reel, if you dont know then post a picture of it...

fishing user avatarManny Escobar reply :

Ok will do thanks

That's the line that keeps breaking when I tie a lure on. I'm going tomorrow to spool it. I'm gonna ask the person what they think.

fishing user avatarFisher-O-men reply :

Looks like a 25 or 30.  10 pound Yozuri would be good.  Make sure you spool it correctly.  See YouTube for instructions.  Don't do the pencil thing.

fishing user avatarManny Escobar reply :

What I'm gonna do is take it to the store and they said they can spool it and they can tell me what they prefer or what I should do

fishing user avatar.ghoti. reply :

You don't have enough line on that reel. I fill mine to within 1/16" when using 10lb line. I go closer to the lip as line size decreases.

fishing user avatarWRB reply :

The spool needs to be replaced or the rim polished, it's corroded and dinged up and will damage any line you use. The reel looks like a Daiwa Cross Fire or similar new is about $30.

Tom

fishing user avatarManny Escobar reply :

Ok I'm gonna fix it before I take it so it won't destroy the line.

fishing user avatarManny Escobar reply :

The guy says that it's cheaper to just buy a different one because it's so dented on top that the line would have frayed even with a new line
