Shimano Possee 2024

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Well, since I am the worst violator of the policy I am about to suggest, I hope you will consider following my lead. Shimano is what I fish and is always my suggestion when someone is looking for a new reel. However, others have a different view.

When a thread is posted asking "Which Daiwa, Pflueger, Abu Garcia, etc." I will stay out of the fray. The author is looking for a reel made by those manufactures, not a Shimano.

So, let members of the other possees respond, they are NOT looking for our imput.

The same goes, at least for me, when anyone wants to talk about rods that I don't fish.

I'm staying out of the thread.

fishing user avatarshootermcbob reply :

Good Morning Roadwarrior. I for one appreciate hearing from all members of each posse. I have never fished with a shimano, but value input from all those who have more experience than I. Some members maybe need some reassurance when asking about a certain brand they are maybe going to purchase. Whether this be rods or reels, I still would like all members of all posse's? to chime in when I ask a question. I most likely speak for most others here, especially new fishermen who are trying to get the best bang for their buck. For what it is worth, I am expecting my first shimano citica/extreme bps combo for Christmas. I might be joining your posse then. lol. For now, I am still a member of the newbie, cash challenged posse trying to get the best bang for my fishing dollar.

fishing user avatarshootermcbob reply :

I just re-read your post, and even if folks are asking about a certain brand, I still would not be offended in any way if someone suggested a different brand. The folks who are asking still haven't made up their mind and possibly a different suggestion would lead them down a road they had not known existed.

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

Let clarify what I meant to say:

If someone asks for suggestions or comparisons, chime in, but when they are comparing the various Revo models, they don't need me or anyone else suggesting a Citica, Curado, Chronarch, etc.

fishing user avatarshootermcbob reply :

OK. I understand where you are coming from. Thanks.

fishing user avatarshimanogloomis man reply :

Roadwarrior .....Shimano they just dont know what there missing out on ;D

fishing user avatarAlpster reply :

I agree and have kind of been operating that way recently. As a full blown deputy in the Shimano Posse, I will henceforth try to give only requested feedback and opinions concerning the equipment I use.

And the Pflueger Mooks will do the same. I must say RW you do not bully and you always give your experience. I don't care what brand is being talked about, there is always one know it all guy trashing everything else.It took me a while but the best cure for that is DON"T ANSWER THEM and let the thread breath on it's own. 8-)

fishing user avatardave reply :

Roadwarrior answering Shimano is as guaranteed as night following day,  death and taxes.  Whatever will happen to BR as we know it?  And how many will never know the beauty of Shimano ownership?

I was thinking the same thing, BR is gonna loose some of it 's character.

Or like me saying: A Daiwa Pixy will cast that teeny tiny bait into the next zip code when somebody asks about light baits on bc tackle.....

Hmmm, I find that interesting.  I think it is good to offer alternative choices, suggesting other reels from different manufactures to posters.  It doesn't hurt and may actually end up being a better choice for that particular poster.  Of course you want to give advice on similiar category reels (e.g. Don't say get a Steez when someone wants input on a Citica, but a Daiwa Black Widow II would be a nice "alternative").

I too am partial to Shimano, but I still own a Revo Premier and just got  a Daiwa Zillion and have had other manufacture models in the past.  Same goes with Rod choices.  Ultimately, posters shouldn't be forcing their reel of choice down others throats, but an alternative choice should be welcomed or ignored by the questioning poster if he already has his mind made up.

Just my 2 cents  :)

Or RW's St. Croix Avid vote.

(I picked one up during the BPS sale and like it...a lot)   :)

fishing user avatar=Matt 5.0= reply :

I'm not biased....whatevers on hand. :) I own two Stradics, but I'll throw whatevers in the boat...it's all the same to me.

fishing user avatartopwaterbob reply :

Can you belong to two possees'?  I started with Shamano and now have some Revo's. Now I don't know if I should get a Core or a Primiere. Going to use it mainly for topwater baits,  walk the dog, wake, etc. I like both brands equally.

Yep!

You only need one Shimano to ride with this gang.

My opinion also.  whatever is closer,....it's not the gear it's the guy throwing it.

RW- Don't hold back, we love that about you.  Would you consider expanding your horizons and trying some new stuff or is it a "comfort with what you know" scenario?

fishing user avatarMicro reply :

I don't want RW to stay out of threads with his Shimano recommendations.  Straining a passion now and then drives the interesting threads at this site - as long as it doesn't get nasty.    And we Abu guys are well aware our favorites can match any other brand out there  :(:)

I would like to see those who are intensely brand loyal to reach out a bit.  Some companies aren't as they were when we grew to dislike their products.  I learned that about Shimano.   After getting 3 bum reels (2 Cardiffs and 1 Curado :) and a mediocre spinning reel, I'm glad I gave them another try and got 2 Curado Ds.  Fantastic reels and a far cry from their earlier offerings.

Merry Christmas.

fishing user avatarRedlinerobert reply :

I agree to a certain extent RW, however being "mostly" from the Daiwa Group I can certainly appreciate your side when it comes to certain charactheristics that people may be looking at, where either Shimano or Daiwa excel over the suggested brand.

I am going to borrow some stuff at Guntersville. Maybe one of Scott's Kistler/ Revo combos and try out Gene's new sponsored rods. Maybe go crazy and fish a Daiwa, too!

You need to seek out a support group if you are having that urge.

fishing user avatar5bass reply :

RW, there are people on here that value your opinion, we all know that. I know why you posted this though.

The way I see it is that pounding your chest about your favorite brand is fine. Bashing a certain brand when you havent tried that brand is not. When someone asks about a Shimano, I dont hijack and say this and that about Shimano even though I could.....I've owned good and bad Shimano's in the past.

When people are asking about a specific brand of reel or rod, one would think they are wanting reviews or opinions of people that have actually used or are owners of that specific product.....thats just my take. Is that wrong?

Now, in a thread asking "whats the best reel for $150 bucks?" .....then its a free-for-all....thats when the person wants to hear from owner's of all the different brands.

When it comes to reviews or opinions on a reel or rod, I try to live by the 'ol "dont knock it until you've tried it" rule. It's worked out pretty good so far.

You better not speak without your attorney present Redline, or I will be forced to put you in front of the Daiwa posse's board of directors  :).  I hear ya...Shimanos are better than most...but we are representing Daiwa's here  :) 8-)

Anybody else have to read this two or three times for it to sink in? I thought I was seeing things. Kent, you are more than welcome to borrow any one of my Kistler and Daiwa combos for the whole week if you want. I don't even care if you fish with it, I just want to get a picture of you with it in your hand.

Better save your fearless leader Shimano posse, he's fading fast to the dark side.

Is there any particular brand of lotion or ointment I should buy in case I break out in a rash?

I hear ya RW I try really hard to just tell facts or re-iterate what I've read. I know I lean toward Pflueger for spinning anyway though.
