Also, what's the best for under $75?
I'm actually looking to pay over the $100 mark for the Daiwa Tatula Type R, but I'm wondering if there are any suggestions for a lower priced reel...
Thanks, in advance!
If you can find the H2O Mettle on sale it is a great reel for the money. I just bought 2 for $40 last week.

I'm gonna go with a cabelas prodigy. It's basically a lexa with a 4 bearing handle and is on sale for $69. Also the cabelas prodigy which is an all aluminum (frame and sideplates) reel on sale for $100

That is what I thought too, but the Prodigy is an Exceler. It has aluminum frame but composite sideplates (both sides) and a 4bearing handle which means, to me, it's only a good deal when it's on sale for $70.
Still #1 for $100.On 4/5/2015 at 7:41 PM, desmobob said:The plain-Jane, non-R Tatula!

i understand the sideplate issue but the prodigy has a metal star drag, higher drag rating and the 4 bearing handle which offers some good upgrades as opposed to the exceler and even lexa. I own 2 lexas, 2 excelers and now a prodigy and for $70 they are a steal

Is the little extra for the Type R not worth it?
http://www.tackletour.com/reviewdaiwatattyper.html This might help answer your question. In my opinion, no it's not worth it unless you have a black/red rod that matches the type r.On 4/6/2015 at 9:28 AM, DCfishing said:Is the little extra for the Type R not worth it?
LFS
Heck, my old SS1HL was a heck of a reel at I believe $65 new on closeout at DSG. Can't get over the value in those entry level Lew's reels.

Thanks, man! I think I'm getting the Daiwa Tatula or the Lew's Speed Spool LFS... Hmm...

I've been hearing great things about this reel! I've narrowed it down to either this or the Tatula!
I have the the lfs as well. Great little reel. Dont think you could go wrong with either.

To each his own. Personally the finish alone is worth it to me even if casting performance is the same. Also I am liking the 8.1:1 ratio of the Type R which isn't available in the standard Tat. My standard Tat hasn't been spooled yet. Bought used for less than your $100 limit.
The best reel under $100 is a used one that listed for $200 new.
I have a couple Browning reels ranging from $50 to $75.These reels seem to be better than those cheap quantums. The models I have are the A-351 and the A-641 (both are lefties). These have been holding up real nice in tournaments, and catch Bass. Pair these reels up with good graphite rods from the same price range $50 to $75, and you'll have good affordable equipment.
Wow. Sure has been slow lately. At least this thread isn't 10 years old.
Always nice to know what current reels are the best for your buck. Surely a few more will jump in with suggestions.
As of 2017 BPS PQ is hands down my favorite for $100 and under
Diawa Fuego,on the bay approximately 75.00
Geez, no love for the Shimano Caenan 150. It's a great budget reel, smooth reeling and good casting.
Recently bought my first Quantum BC in yrs. named the Quantum Team KVD Performance Tuned Baitcast Reel. Works great and does what you want. In better hands, maybe better. 79.99

And you can get a $69.95 backpack for free with proof of purchase if you buy it from BPS. If you buy it from TW, you have 4 choices for free stuff.
Read in this month's In-Fisherman an article about hyper speed baitcasters and how manufacturers are meeting the demand for them -- especially from the pros. KastKing rep is proud of his Speed Demon. IPT is 40 inches at 9:3:1 for 69.99 thru Amazon. Normally, 129.98. Thinkin' about it.
