Anybody use them. I’m looking to add a crankbait setup to my collection next. I can get a good deal on quantum gear if I’m interested. I do t know much about them. If anyone uses them and can share anything that would be great. Or suggest anything specific for me to check out that would be great. Thanks in advance for any info. Just want to add thinking medium power don’t have allot of cranking stuff yet so not looking for anything specific yet just trying to learn more about the brand in general.
I’m sorry I put this in the wrong place
Disclaimer up front. I am sponsored by them. That being said, I really do like the Smoke series. I have been fishing it for a few years and that line of rods/reels holds up well and has a good pricepoint. You can go cheaper in the Quantum line or you can go more expensive, all of which I have access to and I still choose the Smoke Series. FWIW.
All I know is that when I go to somewhere that has reels on display I will try them and the quantum often have problems such as gear slipping (really bad). You might be thinking this is just because they are the ones on display and people probably screw them up but none of the other brands seem to do it. Is this a coincidence? Maybe. I'm personally not willing to take the chance.
A decade or so ago, I was on a trip and needed two spinning combos. Found a couple of Quantum combos on sale for about $50 each. They served their purpose for the week, but neither reel lasted the rest of the year, and one of the rods broke not long after that. Totally disregarding the lower end aspect, I got it in my head that Quantum meant sub-par quality. Unfair, sure. But, sometimes our minds have minds of their own
Fast forward to three years ago, and I was offered deal on two Smoke baitcast reels that I couldn't pass up ($75 each for reel that MSRP $199...who cares what name is on the side...lol)
I've since gotten two more Smokes (all PT's, not 'newer' S3.) Those four reels are my favorites. Now, even that said, I'm not sure if its a totally fair comparison, because I got each of them at WELL below msrp, but my Daiwas and Lews and others are closer to ebay retailer price points....not msrp, but lower than tw/bps.
What does all that mean....? IDK, except that if I am offered a Smoke and a Tatula at same price, I'm taking the Smoke....every time.
It is so very hard for me, nearly impossible, to compare any one reel to another without taking price into some consideration. So, I suggest you don't write off Quantum, or any other brand unless you've got experience comparing models of them to comparably priced other models from different brands.
I own & fish 'several' Quantum rods & reels.
They've been a huge part of my fishing for a long time.
I prefer the top tier products in their line up; especially in reels but I'm a Huge fan of their composite cranking rod.
Each user experience is different and I can not account for what others have experienced one way or another.
But I can show you pics & video of some very respectable catches made on Quantum Tackle. Here just two recent ones.
Let me know if you'd like to see more.

I would stay away from Quantum's cheaper offerings. I bought my son a Quantum Snapshot combo while on vacation that literally fell apart while using it.
I have older Quantum reels like my Code, that cost more that are still going strong.
I have seen the Cabos in action while inshore fishing and was very impressed.
The Smoke reels are absolute fire.... all jokes aside best reels I have under $200
Quantum has always been like that. You get what you pay for with them. Their higher end reels have always been good to me. I still throw two energys that I’ve had since the early 2000s
I've got a Quantum PT400cx BaitCasting reel from the 90s. It's a gigantic reel with a high capacity spool. I bought it for $5 dollars from a flea market, just thinking it would be a good backup reel or a Pike reel. I've since fished the darn paint and logo clean off the reel, and it still performs quite well. All of the current PT series gear will be even better and is very good quality , and on par with equipment from other brands in the same price point...also they do have an industry leading 3 year warranty on all registered PT Reels.
Never used one of their reels although I've read the Smokes and S3s are good reels. I have a couple of their higher end rods....Tour Edition PTs and a Superlite. I like them.
I think Qauntum makes some very good stuff. As others have said, get the upper level if you can. This can hold true with any brands
I have two Smoke S3's and really like them. I prefer my Lew's Tournament G's, they just feel better to me but that's my opinion. I wouldn't trade my Lew's though.
Rods yes, reels no. Imagine how good KVD would be with a decent reel...
I have a quantum Gerald Swindle tour rod...medium light 7 footer than is a very effective smaller crankbait rod. I throw SK 1.0 and 1.5 cranks, Rapala DT4 and DT6 cranks along with others in this size/depth range. Fish stay hooked on this rod as well as my other "cranking" rods, if not better.
I've heard the Cranking rods are excellent.
Their cranking rods are good rods but for whatever money you’re spending on a reel I would put that money elsewhere, #Diawa #Shimano
Thanks for all the input guys.
use the team kvd tuned b/c for 1 1/2 yrs. .... works well for weightless worms ...ipt 28" 7:3:1... 17 lbs. max drag ...casts very very well ... great reel for the serious beginner, serious weekend angler and retired old fella like me...
good fishing...
Like Chop, I fell into a Smoke 100PT a few years ago for $60. Super impressed, I bought used (from this site) an EXO 100PT. I enjoy fishing either in my line up of Shimanos.
Ive always been fond of the smokes but have personally never used them.
For $20 and lower, you can find some Quantum rods and reels that cannot be beaten, or put it this way: not junk.

For under $20!?!?! And where would that be?///////
I picked up a Quantum KVD spinner bait 7' at BPS on sale six years ago an I would not part with it for anything. Absolute perfection for spinner baits. Old Kevin really knew what he was doing.

NO Doubt about it.
These Quantum reels are holding me back ~ Big Time !

^^ no doubt lol. You might not be able to handle what you get with a better reel.

Maybe not, but I am certainly willing to give it the old college try ~

Havent used Quantum in a long time,But really liked there pro and iron series.Wish they still made them.
I was turned off of quantum a while back when I picked up a brand new PT, think it was a smoke or exo, that literally broke in the car when I was still in the parking lot of the BPS that I had just bought it at.
I have since given them a second try, got a super cheap deal on one of their spinning reels that I couldn't pass on. It seems to work well, very smooth. I've heard several times it's really hit or miss with quantum's QC.
Jeez Dr. Watson, you are tough on equipment! Please do not perform any surgery on me...
OK now , this has to be a good one. So the reel broke sitting in your car?

Nitrous 30 reel for $15 from Dick's. Telecast reel for $18 from Sportsmanswherehouse.

Yup, I pulled it out of the box after having just paid for it. Started reeling it, testing the smoothness, really giving it a once over before leaving. After a couple of simulated casts, it started grinding, then I heard a pop and the spool no longer reeled when turning the handle. So I immediately took it back in and traded it out for a Shimano Core, best trade ever, lol.
Oh yeh, you did good.
