Buying Reels Off Ebay 2024

Im accustomed to buying things in store and I've never had to use ebay for fishing items...until i want a reel (another curado 50) thats d/c. Im a bit out of the loop on prices for these as i bought mine for 119.00 and 99.00 and am very aware tjese are worth north of 150. The cheapest i can find via ebay is 154.00. Standard now a days? Not a big deal just curious. Is paypal the best method as payment /w paypal smart connect? Am i instantly billed so i can pay it off? Is the shipping estimation correct? Ive had my debit card stolen where i was refunded but im not using that at all to pay to the seller. Do i have to put money into the paypal account first to use the smart connect? They gave me a credit limit so im not sure.
I know these answers are probably on the site but a lot of you buy off the nay alot amd are probably well versed with it.

i would use paypal. paypal offers buy protection on anything you buy. paypal sends a transaction to your bank account for the amount of the purchase, then sends the amount to seller. so your bank info is never sent to seller. paypal is the safest way to buy things off of ebay.

Anyways, Paypal is safest. I dont know what smart connect is, I just use regular Paypal. It doesn't always show up instantly though, sometimes it takes a day or two before I see it in my bank.

So there isnt something to make monthly paymemts? I thought thats what i was looking at. Ive just become skeptical about storing bank info. Id rather one and done it myself.

The scam artists actually use the ebay / paypal to their advantage. Pay attention to your seller's rating. I don't go anyone less than 95% positive, I don't want to deal with problems. I also pay attention to how much transaction they have done in the past. Scammers open new account, and scam and disappear.
I also pay to Paypal with my credit card, instead of withdraw from my checking account. Paypal didn't always protect me and I was grad that I had credit card company's protection on my side.

paypal is the only one that has your bank account info. you could also use a prepaid credit card and just put money on it when u wanna buy something off paypal.

I just started using ebay a few months ago and iv only bought from sellers that were 98% or higher all but one were 99% with upwards to 1000-3000 sales so I knew they were legit. Sense April iv won and bought 177 items/bids ALL of them were fishing lures or terminal tackle lol plus iv gotten some suff off the flea market here and paid with PayPal.
I also use my credit card mostly my bank card is on there but I choose to use my Capitol One card to have billed.

Iabass, remember to oil and grease the reels you purchase on ebay.
If there are any problems with the reels please take them to a certified repair tackle shop or a local guy who works on reels and have the problem corrected.
I have never bought any reels off ebay but I have purchased a beautiful Kistler rod without any problems.

I also agree with this. I like PP, but they do not have any of my bank info. I use my regular Bass Pro Visa to make purchases. So that is the only info PP has from me. They can not directly access any of my bank or checking accounts. PP forced me to get one of the CC's after I'd spent my limit of introductory allowed money, and the darn site defaults to that card even though I never activated the card. So I have to make sure to always take an extra step of choosing my BPS card instead. A little bit of a hassle, but worth it to me so that I don't have to give PP access to my bank accounts.

Be careful. I bought something off ebay, and 2 weeks later my credit card was compromised. Never use paypal again.

I have bought several rods and reels off ebay with no issues! Don't buy from a seller with less then like 97% feedback.

I use PayPal; they allow you to edit your billing agreements yourself. I have it set up to e-mail me the transactions on everything so I'm always in the loop. If you buy something I think it automatically sets up a billing agreement for you, but after the purchase is complete, you can go into your account and cancel your billing agreement to avoid fraudulent charges by that seller in the future. This saved my rear when my Apple ID account got broken into. I saw the first charge for $25, cancelled my billing agreement with Apple through PayPal, reported the fraud to PayPal who then backcharged Apple for the $25 and then I reported the problem to Apple. Before I could even change my Apple ID password another $200 was charged to my Apple ID account but the charges never hit my bank account because PayPal was not authorized to pay Apple due to me cancelling the billing agreement. Apple understood and took the charges off of my account. This all happened within ~30 minutes of the first purchase; those fraudsters move fast.
Never had a problem on eBay but I always go with proven sellers. eBay will also protect your purchases. With the protection from PayPal, eBay, and your bank buying online is pretty safe. I would recommend not using your primary account with PayPal however, because if someone drains your account you could be stranded for a while before the charges are refunded.

Well i just ordered it using smart connect via paypal. Seems like a good idea as i wont be charged until i check the reel out. Then i will pay. That 26% interest rate is I don't understand huge. It says with their speedy delivery or whatever it should be here thurs or friday. Is that accurate?

ia, I hope your purchase goes well, and doesnt end the way mine did. I will tell you this, I never had an issue with buying reels from this site. I just bought a Citica E from pondassassin, and the reel was better than what he stated. I have to say one thing about this site, everyone on this site is true to their word, and the trust is beyond all expectation.

Thanks. I got mine from ebay retailer "Ohya" which has a url "www.ohya.com" and seems to be a reasonably large fishing retailer with near perfect feedback. Says the reel should be there Thursday or Friday so let's hope it goes well and I may find an Ebay bug =).
Are shipping times they list pretty spot on?
Do you generally have to sign for reels when they come?
The only fishing items I've had delivered were tackle (usually just comes in a box in my mailbox) and rods from st. croix that come in a tube they just dumb in front of my door.
I'll clean the reel myself when I get it but is there anything I need to look for? I read somewhere there was a batch of bad curado 50s floating around. I suppose it wouldn't be the end of the world..nothing DVT probably couldn't fix but here's my one time to a good ebay experience.

Your signing for it depends on how the seller shipped it, anything under $200 and the seller can decide if they want a signature or not, over $200 and it's mandatory. I believe what you signed up for is the Paypal line of credit, so just be sure to pay the sum off before January and no interest will hit you. I have bought about 15 reels off ebay, from $15 to $250, and no issues, good luck with your transaction.

I have used pay pal for 10 years and bought and sold professional camera equipment on ebay costing as much as $7,000.00, never had a problem, it is probably safer than writing a check that has your account number and routing number on it for everyone that touches it to see! I think pay pal is the safest way to send money on the internet, period. If you are going to buy a reel on ebay, there are plenty that have been selling for years that have 1000's of feedback to view so you know they are reliable and honest, more so than the one in one thousand buyers that leave them trash feedback!! Like this guy, he has left and right hand.

I have bought about 4 reels from a seller named unitedoutdoors. He sells new and you will save at least 15-20 bucks over going to the store to buy new. I also purchased both my Pflueger medalists used for a combined 66 dollars including shipping. Good deal considering they were retailing for 80-85 dollars each when new. Both were in excellent condition as I broke them both open to inspect and lube them when recieved. As others have said 97% feedback or higher with an established history is the only way I pull the trigger on a purchase.

Iv found shipping pretty spot on I usually had tracking numbers same day as the bid was won. Every thing has been shipped to my wife and I judged my shipping times by the nasty emails why so many fishing boxes came in the mail hehehe. The last purchase was the best response from her " Why the hell did you just get 2 new revos in the mail" oops lol I bought them on the flea market here though. I make up for it and send her flowers every other week or so so take her mind of the swarm of boxes loaded with lures and gear coming at her lol. You can also use paypal to pay on sites like BPS, GNC a few other sites as well will have a PP option.

There are some VERY reliable stores on Ebay, guys that I won't hesitate to deal with. There are a lot of guys, though, that are selling returned reels and bunk reels out there, too. generally, if you see that it's as is, no returns, I avoid it.
BTW, the new Chronarch 50E is the same reel- just gonna throw that out there. They're available.

that's one thing iv been hesitation on because there's all kinds of Revo MGX's on there for 250 or so when they retail for 100 more something hasn't seemed right but they all have great feedback.

A lot of those are being sold at or slightly above dealer cost. They make a volume buy, bypass the sales agreement and eBay them. Some, I am sure, are stolen product, some are from factory seconds, some are probably straight up. With fleabay you takes yer chances.

Not being from the retail world I've wondered about the pricing of some items for sale on Ebay, not just fishing gear. I've yet to encounter a problem with a seller or the product not being as described, or the manufacturer not honoring the warranty. So far it's been win-win.

And I am sure the are other people like my wife, who will load up on things being clearanced out of local stores if she knows the items have been selling well on ebay.

Just got it in the mail today. Reel was literally NIB and fully sealed in original package. Inspected it and everything is as it should be. Upgrading bearings in a few minutes and on the water it goes tonight. Ebay is going to be addictive.
