Favorite Baitcaster 2025

fishing user avatarMN Basser reply :

What is your favorite baitcaster? Or your top 5?? I only have one, so it is my Abu-Garcia Revo S

fishing user avatarHogHooker reply :

AbuGarcia Max pro edition, just arrived and i love it

AbuGarcia Revo

AbuGarcia EXT

AbuGarcia 5500C3

AbuGarcia 6500C3

I've used shimano, quantum, Diawa, and okuma, but nothin stands up to wear and tear like an abu, they are like a rock man, haven't been spooled on a fish yet, whether it be salmon, steelhead, bass, trout. And i haven't had to replace or repair any of my reels. love them all

fishing user avatarRiskKid. reply :

I have a number of fine reels of all brands but my favorite is my TD-Z

fishing user avatarCatt reply :

PFLUEGER TRION, Narrow Spool

fishing user avatar.RM. reply :

Out of the hundreds I have owned, in the four brands that I service, my fav is.....

My green 94 Curado CU201B, with out a doubt the best I have owned....

Tight Lines All!!!

fishing user avatarAlpster reply :

Top 5

4 Shimano 50 Mgs

1-Calcutta TE200DC

I love them Mgs, I'm never afraid to cast to the smallest hole in the thickest cover. They are so smooth & reliable, they instill a lot of confidence. The Calcutta DC will cast a feather into a stiff wind. LOL

Ronnie

fishing user avatarTin reply :

Abu Garcia Pro Max

Abu Garcia Revo S

Abu Garcia Revo SC

Abu Garcia Torno 3006 HSI

Abu Garcia Pro Max

fishing user avatarMicro reply :

I'm glad someone listed the Abu Garcia EXT. I have 2 EXT Pros on 7' M/MF rods I use for crank baits. The Abu Garcia EXT Pro is the bomb-diggity for casting light lures. Man, it will way outcast my Revos. And the brake works better, too.

Nevertheless, my favorite reels are my Revo STX/SX/SCs followed very closey by my Curado 200 DHSVs.

My Ambassedeur C4s have a special place, though. I've had them for so long, and they've caught so many fish. They're smoother now then they were when they were new. I just can imagine not having some around.

Merry Christmas.

fishing user avatarfathom reply :

past to present

set of lew's ng's

set of chronarch 100a's

set of calais 100a's

that said, recently picked up a 50mg and it feels much better on the 783 than the calais.

fishing user avatarbasspro48 reply :

I got plenty of nice 'casters.

But my favorite would have to be my new Shimano Curado 100D, smoothest dang reel I've fished...

fishing user avatarJimzee reply :

1. Daiwa TD-Z 105 H

2. Daiwa Steez 103 H

3. Daiwa Alphas Ito 103 A.I.

4. Daiwa Liberto Pixy

5. Daiwa Alphas 103

These would have to be my top five.  Can we have a top ten?  ::)

fishing user avatarWillzx225 reply :

I will start off by saying that probably for the past 10 years I have been nothing but Shimano reels.  Don't get me wrong, they do make a very high quality product.  Probably about 8-10 months ago I purchased a few of the Revo STX's and have fallen in love with them.  I also recently purchased some of the SX's just to see what the difference was.  They are a truely amazing reel for $150!

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

I have a Calais, Metanium, Chronarch and two CTE200GT. I like them all. Oddly, my "favorite" is the CH50MG which I don't have! My next reel, the Shimano Core, will probably become my favorite.

fishing user avatarflechero reply :

the 50 MG is clearly my favorite.  I have several more expensive reels- but NONE I like better.  (I might have to edit this post later if I buy a Revo Premier today)  ...lol

fishing user avatarJake. reply :

My Revo SX. You just can't beat it for $150, IMO.

fishing user avatarThefishy1 reply :

5. some BPS round reel.

I might get a daiwa zillion within the next week though so that might take over.

fishing user avatarHogHooker reply :

Abu 6500C3 because i have hauled coho salmon up to 22lbs on it.

Abu 5500C3 because i landed steelhead, and all salmon species on it

Abu EXT because its the smoothest round design baitcaster out there

Abu Revo is just good, smooth, strong, reliable... and cheap

Abu Max casts a mile and a half, fast retrieve and can cast everylure in all my tackle boxes and vests with it. Salmon, steelhead, trout, bass every spinner, spoon, jig, worm, crank, spinnerbait, bla bla bla

I love all my abu's, Only reel i own that isn't an abu is my diawa spinning reel.

fishing user avatarflippincrazy reply :

curado, curado, ect.  My goal this year is to throw other types of baitcaster's (brands) to see if I'm missing anything. I trew a $50 pinacle that my dad bought for himself this past year and I was kinda taken back, because it was pretty decent. But Ive heard a lot about diawa's and I'm itchin to buy one, just gotta pick out the rod

fishing user avatarCaptain Chaos II reply :

Steez with my Pixy being a very close second and my Z being a very close third. :)

fishing user avatarMN Basser reply :

Anybody tried the Daiwa Excelciar?? It looks pretty nice. I was debating between that or the Revo SX. But I don't need another until May, thats the MN bass opener..

fishing user avatarEvan Pease reply :

My new Zillion is already my favorite even though I havent fished it yet and my Viento would be a VERY close second.

3. Ito Alphas

4. Steez 103

fishing user avatarSteveF reply :

My overall favorite would have to be my Japanese Daiwa Alpha Type F 's in left hand retrieve (as I only use lefties). Although my Daiwa Sols are a pretty close second, however this weekend I'm picking up 2 of the Daiwa Zillion high speed reels and hope them to be right up there as well.

Got plenty Shimanos, the same ammount of Shimanos than Daiwas plus a few old Abus.

I didn 't mention the Core not beceuse I don 't like it, haven 't fished with it enough to make the list yet.
