Well I finally got out today at our local salt Creek (runs from my local still frozen lake)
No bites but felt good to get out nonetheless
Limited throwing area about 30 yards.
I am not impressed with the Daiwa Tatula reel / rod set up. Felt very heavy and not very smooth. Useful 15 lb fluoro with a spinner bait.
Now my new curado 300e on a 7' 8 st. Croix mojo bass with crank bait
Wow!!!! Barely threw it out there and it hit the timber on the other side of the creek
Love that set up and can't wait until I can throw it out into the open water. Very smooth and could feel the crank wiggling.
Just my personal thoughts
Man that first cast of the year feels like I broke a diet with a porterhouse steak with garlic mashed potatoes
LOL, that Curado out weighs the Tatula by 2.6 oz and I am sure that Mojo rod weighs more than the Tatula rod (couldn't verify weights) but you thought the Tatula "felt very heavy"
Interesting thoughts. All four of my Tatulas are very smooth. Maybe you got a bad one with a bunch of extra metal in it, making it heavy and not very smooth.
That is funny but maybe it was because the spinner weighed more than the crank bait
That's what I find interesting when people argue over .7 oz making a difference. Most of the time we probably can't even tell the difference in a few oz's.
That's a good apples-to-apples comparison.
I am not surprised that a 7'8" glass rod with a high-capacity reel threw a crankbait a lot further than a shorter graphite rod threw a spinnerbait.
I feel like you are comparing very different fruit here.
Kiwis to pineapples maybe haha

I also found it odd that the Tatula was "heavy," but the much larger, much heavier, reel wasn't?
You guys need to remember that this IS the Internet! Right now, he (if it's a he) is probably sitting back and laughing at you guys getting worked up over his trashing the Tatula.
I've heard from a few guys that own Tatulas that they feel heavy. Never even seen one in person so I can't say anything about them, but they're the first Daiwa reel I've considered buying in a long time.
Love my 300E, a little outside the box to use it as a cranking reel but I'm sure it will launch a crank because I sling a swimbait a mile on mine!
I don't get it. The tatula rod is one of the lightest out there, but you say it is heavy compared to the mojo glass 7'8? The tatula reel is lighter than the 300E, but you call that heavy too?

Because he is a bona fide registered Shimano fan?

My Type R weighs .2oz less than my "miniscule" Curado I. People that think it's heavy might need a couple curls.
Thread needs locked
We don't lock threads because of disagreeing opinions.
Perhaps this is a difference in balance, resulting perceived mass. The Mojo series is well known to be tip heavy. This means the balance point is forward the reel seat. Put a heavier reel on it, and the fulcrum shifts closer to the seat.
People that complain about the tatula being heavy remind of the burgerking commercials with the guy with tiny hands complaining the burgers are too big......
Thanks for rippin on me guys.
If you look at my topic I state "and" not "vs" and rated each reel separately
I felt the Tatula reel was heavy and not very smooth.
The curado did not feel heavy to me even though it weighs more
Perhaps I should not post anymore

C'mon...
You just need a little thicker skin, there is a difference of perception, that's all.
I haven't read anything that appears to be a personal attack.
Many times people mean 'feel heavy' when they say 'heavy'.
I for one not super impressed with Tatula (reel). Don't get me wron, It's a good reel, especially you can get it for around $100, but I think it was a bit of too much hype. This is just my opinion, if its worth anything...
And yeah, that 7'8" setup 'should' outcast the other, no suprise there.

Hype or not, it's a $149 reel. Seems a lot of people think it was going to replace the Zillion or blow everything out of the water, but it's still just a $149 reel. Compared to any other reel at that price, give me a Tatula. I even like it as much, or maybe more, than the new Curado, and it costs a little more.
Most didn't pay anything near the MSRP for their Tatula. I paid about $112 ea for mine. That is less than I paid for my first Curado CU-200 over 20 yrs ago! You won't see a Curado I go for much less than MSRP anywhere for quite awhile is my guess. Makes the Tatula a pretty darn good deal. Heck you can get the Type R for less than a Curado I without too much effort put into chasing prices.
I was surprised when I first saw the Curado E, it was HUGE. Too big for my hands. I thought the Tatula looked good, but it rubbed on my hand, seems like the reel seat is up there and the rest of the reel sits closer to the rod, if that makes any sense. Either way, both reels feel like they have a lot of power. A bit surprised the Tatula wasnt smooth, but there are always a few bad apples out there. Maybe exchange it?

If you went last week it was the Curado 300e. BPS hasn't had 200e's for a couple of years now.

good deal. That 300e was a giant!
I got thick skin
It's all cool

You good. Its your opinion. Doesnt no one else know what your reels feel like. If you are disappointed in the Tatula, maybe you could exchange it though.
The 300e and 50e are special reels in my book. 200e was ok in my opinion.
May I ask which exact rod you had the Tatula on? There could be a balance issue with the setup, which might make the reel feel unnecessarily heavy. I made some assumptions about the rod used and they may be unfair.
The 300E probably feels awesome because it's well-balanced with the 7'8" glass rod.
It's also perfectly acceptable to just plain not like certain reels.
I had the tat on a tat rod because I read that others felt it was heavy on other rods
Different strokes for different folks. Everyone's opinion varies. I fished a tatula on a 7' mh tatula rod and thought it was a nice balanced combo.
I have my tatula r on a 775 endurance and it's extremely well balanced for a flipping combo.
The shimano curado 300E is one great casting reel, but the tatula, should be able to hold its own against it in a fair comparison, maybe it just needs a breakdown flush and relube of some of the essential components. I think this is one of the first less than positive reviews on the tatula as far as performance and not size and ergonomics that i have seen on this site...

I don't know about this site alone, but I recall reading a bunch of comments regarding the casting performance of the Tatula early on. Some said it was less than stellar but usually a bearing flush or replacement cleared that up. I have cleaned out all spool bearings on my 3 Tatula's and was definite improvement of it's free spool capability. I expect they will cast great!
My Tat's are stock and I was throwing an Xcalibur XR 50 today further than I could with my Curado G's. Probably 40 yards or so. With a 3/8 Chatterbait I was getting probably 30 yards. Both reels using 14lb Sufix.

I think the fact he was throwing a spinnerbait might have had something to do with the casting as well. They aren't exactly the most aerodynamic baits out there. I have a few Tatula's and they hold their own against just about anything I've used (they're no Calais/Calcutta DC, or Z2020, but they cost a LOT less). I've upgraded to OS7's in my Type R and one of my regulars as well and it made a little difference, but not a whole lot. They cast pretty dang good right out of the box.

You probably heard it here. I don't do maintenance on my reels. I am going to start tho. Based on the videos and recommendations on here, they say the manufacturers pack the reels with extra grease. The reason is most folks, including myself, don't take reel maintenance seriously.
Due to me upgrading my gear, I will be taking better care of my reels and rods since I'm sinking more money into them.
Also based on what I've read here, I'm going to give the Tatula a good go when I get the funds.
Tatula $150 vs Curado $250 the $100 should get you something. Try swapping rods and give it another try.
Tom
I will agree the Tatula is just a tad on the heavy side however I love my Tatula it's going to make a great flipping and frogging reel.

BLASPHEMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really didn't read a review of the Tatula... But rather a statement... It just seems to me plain and simple... He likes the 300e over the Tat... The end! Next........
