Best casting reel for a Doybns DX795 FLIP? 2025

I've decided to go with a Dobyns DX 795 FLIP. I need to be able to fish the light 1/4 oz and still be able to punch 1 1/4, think DX795 will fit me needs. I'm looking to pair it with the best reel for the rod! I mostly use shimono but I have tourney series Lews on my other two Doybns. Just happened to find a deal on those. Suggestions?

I would try a Tatula 8 to 1, or Abu Garcia Revo Rocket. I have the Rocket and man, she is fast!!! Once you get good with that combo you will flip and pitch so fast you will be machine like.

I do not own a Tat, but have practiced pitching and flipping with one in a local tackle store and it was easy with the TWS line guide system.

I use a Tatula Type R 8-1 and am very happy with it. It probably does not perform like a Zillion or one of the other high end Daiwa models but it works well.

I'm not sure what your budget is, but if you're in the $200 range, the new 70 size Curado should be right up your alley. I was flipping 3/16oz. texas rigs with mine with no problem, and I've flipped 1oz. with it and had no problems as well.

I read about the tws system. Did you notice and extra casting distance?

It is not a cheap reel but it should prevent you from having to mod the reel to your liking and also prevent the dig in from braid that everyone is always complaining about, I imagine that you will be wanting 50 or 65 lb braid for hammering the big girls and you would be set up to go to war!!!!

My hands-down favorite is still the Shimano Core, on 'any' casting rod.

Although they're not marketed anymore, they're still available online (Amazon, et al.)

Now of course they're cramming the Metanium down our throat, but it's another excellent reel

I bought a steez decade or more ago. Just didnt hold up and couldnt find parts or get repaired. I prefer 30lb 832 or straight 14-20lb FC Sniper. Live in the Northeast now, nothing too nasty up here.

well the zillion is considered the most bulletproof reel that daiwa makes. Its been tested and worked for a long time. If you still have your steez there are a lot of people who can get it back going again, i do a lot of reel fixing on my own stuff but dvt or ebassfisher on tt will do it up special.

When I was practicing with the Tatula I think the TWS gave me more confidence to be precise and accurate with each cast. I seriously picked it up and one practice flip told me everything I needed to know. After that, it was a constant 10'-15' no problem at all. (there was a casting weight at the end of the line, not sure the weight).

It's a flipping rod. If that's all your going to do with it, it makes little difference what reel you put on it. The reel on a flip stick serves the same purpose as the reel on a fly rod. It's a place to store the extra line. Got something with a stout drag, and a handle long enough to suit you, and go fishing.

When I say best I mean compact, comfortable and light. The reel should balance out the rod perfectly. I've never touched this rod before so I'm trusting these guys..lol

I was trying to do too much with 1 rod. I elected to go with a DX745, I get the DX 795 latter.. Rod came in and I love the new Doybns blanks! Smaller circumference, lighter weight and just as strong. After some research I'm going with a Shimono Metanium jdm at the same price as a zillion. As for you Diawi guys.. Diawi has a ton of models all different price with same parts. I don't want to deal with a company with less than ethical marketing strategy. That's just me. Tight lines guys thanks for your input!

Just saying john..lol I want a reel comany that's spend more time making a quality product and less time trying flood the market and trick customers. A Zillion weights 7.4-7.9 Oz. If I want light weight I have to pay extra for the steez. I have a broken one in the back, asked me how it worked out last time..lol Was trying to help the next guy that reads this forum. IMO the Metanium jdm is a superior reel for 325 shipped. Same reason I chose Dobyns DX rods over Loomis now. Quality with a great price point, can't pass it up!

i own two steez reels and i would not know how you would brake one. If you need it fixed i could take a look at it for ya! I picked both of mine up for right around 300 dollars new. I could not stomach the idea of paying full price. I like a lot of the older reels so thats what i suggest. Seems people want only a brand new reel and i have not tried most of the new stuff enough to recommend it. The new aluminum steez might be the reel your looking for but being brand new it will be high dollar!!!

I looked for the bag the other day after talking about it. It needed washers and a spring.Think I tossed it anyhow... It was lefty they needed to get rid of 9-10 years ago at GandM, paid 350+ . I opted for a Metanium Mgl this time around. Rod and reel under a pound. Nice setup more than enough power but so smooth. Shimano is the better company in my mind. Who has the better reel idk till I throw a newer steez. I loved my old Steez too. I have a Stella and a sustain spinning I need serviced.

I have all Daiwa reels so I feel comfortable working on those as I do all my own maintenance. DVT is a shop that will do it for a standard fee. If you find the reel it would be nice to have for parts at least!

My top pick would be daiwa sv 103sx or megabass i79. I also like daiwa zillion tw sv in 7:1 or higher, 8:1 Tatula, or anot 8:1 helios.
