I'm looking for the best baitcast reel or reel/rod combo (I want a new rod too so if it'll be cheaper to get both..), under $160.
Primary use: jigs / spinnerbaits
Line: 20lb fluro INVIZX, or braid 40-65 lbs
Anyone have one of these?

I have several of the carbonlite trigger rods and think they are a steal for the money. Got to be the lightest rod made in this price range and they handle like a much more expensive rod. As for a reel maybe look at Diawa Tierra or the Quantum in the $90 range I think it's the Accurist. It's been my experience that cheaper BPS reels are just that, cheap reels. Even the Carbonlite reels at $120 are not very well made in my opinion.
How's the Lews TP1SH?

same reel 50 bucks cheaper?
I have not owned the TP but everyone has said great things about it. You can pick one up off eBay for around $160. I have the $99 speed spool and I believe it's the best real you can buy in that price range.
I found the Lew's Pro Speed Spool TP1SH for $159 on ebay, I searched this forum and only came up with 3 threads and 2 people has backlash problems so I'm not sure.On 6/20/2012 at 2:43 PM, shaun_reid2005 said:I have not owned the TP but everyone has said great things about it. Just search lews on here and you will find a bunch of information. There is a TON more good things said about them then bad
ok I decided to get the Lew's Tournament Speed Spool TS1SH for $118 brand new ($149.99 MSRP) free shipping
As long as it's not a MG you'll love it.
what's MG?On 6/20/2012 at 6:23 PM, Hi Salenity said:As long as it's not a MG you'll love it.
The Tournament "MG" reel is a few bucks less than the Tournament. It has a longer handle that's nice but it only has the magnetic breaks. I way prefer the centrifugal breaks.
oh, yeah it's not the MG it's the plain Tournament Speed Spool TS1SH
External-adjust Multi-Setting Brake (MSB) dual magnetic/centrifugal cast control

I like mine, much less probs than my revo sx with the brakes but I do prefer centrifugal myself overall.
Nothing wrong with the MG or the SS. I LOVED the longer handle on the MG. I have a bad habit of backing the mag breaks off too much and then end up with the instant reel locked up backlash from H**L!
The answer is obvious, its a Curado E series.
You will be happy, you will find out after you use it a while how a baitcast reel is supposed to perform, and it should last a lifetime with basic maintenance. If the tournament Pro wasn't so light, I would own nothing but the Tournament . I have all three TS, TP, and the Team, they all cast a mile with little effort. And they are all great reels, but the TP and Team have one difference, the Team has aluminum side plates, to me not worth the 70 or so bucks over the TP. Then the other two,TP and TS, have graphite, the TP is the lightest and I like it on my Plastics and finess rod. The TS, weight about 1 oz more and has 1 less bearing, but is as smooth as the top two, with the same drag, and capacity, and the same size, all great reels, and why I switched from Shimano to LEWS! They actually seem to get smoother the longer you use them!! ENJOY!
Where did you find them for $118.00?
Lews..........GAME OVER!!!!

Cool, now I'll get to see what all the hype is about with these new Lew's.On 6/20/2012 at 11:23 PM, Capt.Bob said:You will be happy, you will find out after you use it a while how a baitcast reel is supposed to perform, and it should last a lifetime with basic maintenance. Obvious? I said under $160, and you say a reel that retails over $240..On 6/20/2012 at 10:59 PM, LgMouthGambler said:The answer is obvious, its a Curado E series.

I only paid about $45 out of my pocket for it
$240 for an Curado E? You can find them all day for about $120. Heck, the Chronarch is $200.On 6/21/2012 at 2:49 AM, Nodda4me said:Cool, now I'll get to see what all the hype is about with these new Lew's.

Curado, Citica E series....
Curado 300E? The cheapest on ebay is 200
Hardly anyone uses the 300 it's huge! The cool kids have the 50 & 200. Some will use the 300 for larger swim baits.
Go 200, all around better. I use my 50 for my around town fishing with 12# YoZuri.
If you can find a 50e for around 120 you're getting one heck of a deal. I like Gambler use Yo-Zuri 12# on mine and its one of my favorite reels, just doesn't top a daiwa though

You wont find a new for less than $200.00 for a 200E7 and that is an open bid still going, the cheapest used 200 E was $169.00 buy now, at auction end the 200's are selling for around $150.00 USED! If you find one for $120.00 it will be a real dog beat so bad you will swear it was drug to the boat on the asphalt. I made more for mine used in mint condition than I paid for them new!! Now is the time to dump em.
I already purchased the Lew's Tournament Speed Spool for $118 on ebay. Thanks for everyones input.
About the $200 / Curados, I'm not really familiar with any of the high end reels so I didn't know there were different models of the E series, pretty sure I only seen the 200's with a G on BPS and 300's with the E.
I bought the same reel from the same seller and I love it. It's a lot of reel for only $118.
Well actually I'm only paying 46 bucks out of my pocket. That's 30% of retail price for the reel. I basically got 72 bucks for free off a game I play haha, they send it to my paypalOn 6/21/2012 at 12:43 PM, JaxBasser said:I bought the same reel from the same seller and I love it.
