Best Mono? 2024

fishing user avatarcarrothead reply :

What is the best mono you can buy for the price?

Big Game?

Trilene XL/XT?

Stren Original?

Stren Super Knot?

Or whatever else you recommend?

Thanks!

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

For more than 2 decades I 've fish with this trio:

Berkley Trilene XL

Berkley Trilene XT

Berkley Big Game

Have tried lotz and lotz of lines and always return to those three.

fishing user avatarbigtimfish reply :

For a lot for a good price=Berkley big game                                       Good mono around 300 yds=Sufix Seige                                           I always use Blakemores reel magic when spooling line to reduce line memory.

fishing user avatarDock Master reply :

    Sufix.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Suffix Siege has served me well steelhead fishing streams in winter.  Many 10 lb.+ fish brought in on 8#.  For bassing, I use copoly, braid, or fluoro.

fishing user avatarJake. reply :

1. Sunline Super Natural

2. Sufix Elite

fishing user avatarFurbit reply :

Vicious Ultimate!

fishing user avatarRoLo reply :

I'm currently a braid addict, but most of my fishing years (fresh & salt) were spent fishing with nylon monofilament.

1) Berkley Trilene XL

2) Berkley Trilene Big Game

If I were ever to return to monofilament line, I'd want some of the attributes of "fluorocarbon", but not too much.

That is to say, I'd move from Nylon Mono up to Copolymer Mono...namely:

1) Sufix Siege

2) Berkley Trilene Sensation (formerly 'sensithin')

fishing user avatariceintheveins reply :

Orginal Stren and P - Line CX Premium. Both have good all around casting and handling along with enough abrasion resistance and strength.

fishing user avatarDINK WHISPERER reply :

Stren original all the way

fishing user avatarPondHunter reply :

I was a long-time user of Trilene XL, but recently I did some strength tests and found Stren Original to hold up very well. Specifically, the clear version. Ive used braidw/flourocarbon leader and had good luck with it, but felt it was time to simplify things a bit and just use some mono instead. My gear was starting to get too complicated.

fishing user avatarstryk9 reply :

i use trilene xl for spinning gear and stren original for my baitcasters...

fishing user avatarQuitlimpin reply :

Trilene XL....All Day

fishing user avatarlooking4structure reply :

big game all the way

fishing user avatarJeff H reply :

Only Berkley XT for me.

fishing user avatarMuddy reply :

I do not know about the best ,the 2 that work for me

Stren Origianl

Trilene XL

fishing user avatarLdavis reply :

Try some McCoy Mean Green!!  Strong mono with very little memory

fishing user avatarTheHammer84 reply :

Trilene XL

Also, I guess it isn't technically mono, but Sensation.

fishing user avatarbmadd reply :

Berkley Big Game or Suffix Siege

fishing user avatarShawnCorreia reply :

Oh, I know I'm gonna get nuts over this, but I think big game is cheap crap. I am not all that impressed with seige either. Stren Original is the ONLY mono woth it's weight. I have reeled in fish out of rock beds with line so frayed it looked like old rope. Stren is strong!

A very good line !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

fishing user avatarmrlitetackle reply :

as for the best, i dont know???

what i do know is that before i made the switch to braid on all my outfits......

my line of choice was Ande for mono.

its an "economy" line for sure, but after trying many mono's in the past...... i came across it, and i used it solely for 10 years..... and never wanted to switch......

that is until,

i used suffix braid........

fishing user avatarstill learning reply :

Again with Suffix. Great castability, strength and low memory.

fishing user avatarmphenry reply :

Berkley sensation seems to work good for me

Stren original and XL mono

Never tried Suffix maybe I should

fishing user avataraceman387 reply :

another vote for the mcoy mean green.

fishing user avatarSouth FLA reply :

You can't go wrong with the Trilene XL or XT depending on application, but I am now a huge fan of McCoy's Line, its the best mono IMO.

As far as Big Game, it should be called Big Boing, great for impact leader/saltwater applications, but to stretchy for my taste!

fishing user avatarbassin is addicting reply :

trilene xl and xt.

no need for any other mono..

fishing user avatarI.rar reply :

6lb trilene xl on my spinning

10lb big game on my bait caster.

both are pretty cheap and will stand up to big fish if it has been stored right. ive always wanted to give sufix elite a shot , but i decided to pick up a spool of p-line cxx instead.
