Sharp looking reel. Though, I can't think of a single time I've needed more than 30 or so IPT. It's getting a little silly.

I'm in. Adding to my wish list.

fishing user avatardown4ttown reply :

Nice, but is it similar to the Premier?

You've never tried racing a buzzbait against Usain Bolt?

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

I was unaware he could run on water...let alone bite a buzzbait.

He is working on that. Last time I did he won, parallel to the bank he was on.

I'm out on this one. The 8:1 STX was too fast for my liking. I'm sure the flipping junkies will be all over it, though.

How about this. A reel geared so, no matter how long your cast, one turn of the handle brings your lure, or fish to the boat.

Seriously... I think most of us fish TOO fast.

fishing user avatarclayton86 reply :

I seen this on my Facebook news feed also. I'm a revo guy as everyone knows so its on my wish list.....better stop raining cuz that list is getting long with the new morrum reel and now this I'm sure there will be more released as we get closer to icast

fishing user avatarCTGalloway21 reply :

I have a 7 and it is fast enough for me.  At a price of $299, I am probably out on this one.  Would rather get a Toro for Swimbaits or another Revo SX.

Any idea on the price of the Morrum?

I think I seen 499 some where don't quote me on it though.

fishing user avatarSodus Bay Scooter reply :

I would totally get this if;

1. Needed another setup

2. Could justify blowing $300 on a reel

3. Had $300 to blow on a reel

fishing user avatarHanover_Yakker reply :

In my experience (albeit rather minimal compared to some of you veteran anglers), the only realistic application I can see for a reel with that kind of IPT rating is one where the predator is fast moving and you need a lure that is moving super fast.

To my knowledge, that formula equates to a saltwater reel throwing spoons or sling silvers chasing after fast movers like Spanish Mackerel where the boat needs to be moving at a 5-8mph clip and the lure moving just as fast.

Sorry - not a real necessity in my book - just marketing hype for a Revo Premier variant from the looks of it.

fishing user avatarULG reply :

i will say i love to flip mn pitch, the speed is helpful when ur flippin grass or reeds and the fish is under the boat before you u can engage ur reel when fishing 10 inches of water!!! but would like to see more specs on the reel n like stated in earlier post, some tweaks IMO will need to be worked out before i spend 300 on another reel i dont need! but if its anything like the gen 3 revo line, theres gonna be a lot of love hate between the buyer and the revo! i myself seem like have a hard time putting my gen 2s down! js wish i wuda jumped on the gen 2 premiers earlier, mine had a problem with the spool getting too tight, threw it hard just to go 20-25 feet from the boat, cleaned and magnets loosened up all the way and still no luck, woun up returning it and getting a shimano and had no problems since but still have 10 revos and use the heck out of them! but back to the subject at hand, id like to try it out for sure but at that price point, i might have to wait due to the fact that the applications would be limited to hi speed lures. but we'll see cz i like to get new fishing stuff for sure!

fishing user avatar38 Super Fan reply :

Yeah, it may not be needed, but you guys have to admit, they will sell them like hotcakes. And that's what it's all about.

I see your logic. If you're casting a reeling a bait in, like a spinnerbait or crankbait, then yes, you're right. However, what about techniques where there is a lot of slack in the line? Flipping/pitching, worms, etc. The more slack you can pick-up per turn, then better in those situations... It has its place, thats all I'm saying..... with that said: No, I'm not buying one.

I remember when the new 5:1 "high speed" Daiwas came out in the early 90s.  We had no issues with picking up slack then.  To me, it's just a silly horsepower war.  It's going to reach the point of diminishing returns - you're going to actually give the fish slack to be able to generate enough torque to actually reel in the fish.  Again, some specs are more about fishing than catching.  Look up my rants about so called "frog rods," lol.

I actually can't wait to tear one apart.  I'd like to see those gears up close and personal.

fishing user avatarHanover_Yakker reply :

And once I hear that type of hansds on breakdown feedback and analysis on the new reels like this one and the new Morrum and the like will dictate whether I even think of grabbing one in the future!

True, but I am not making excessively long casts or pitches over 30 feet, so for me that amount of IPT is really not a viable option.  Not to say that someone wouldn't have a use for it, but unless they are making the Revo Inshore in that model or at least a salt water rated reel, then I have no interest.  I also have the advantage of going to the fish if it gets hung up which most boat-based anglers would be able to do as well right?  Unless you are working some heavy cover in which I would question why would you be making long casts that you could potentially not be able to get to if you get hung up.  I guess I prefer to remain in contact with the bait regardless of technique.  Even fishing worms and plastics, there is hardly ever any excessive slack in the line.  In my experience, that is how you end up with gut hooked fish.

fishing user avatarLucky Craft Man reply :

I have found 28 IPT to be pretty optimal for most of what I do.  I could see this for a flipping or pitching, but for anything else it just seems like it would be too fast.

Just wanted to let you know that these guys have the Revo Rocket available now! I picked up one today. They are also running a coupon code for a labor day sale labor13. Will post feedback soon
