Hey guys, just wondering what are some of your best combos(spinning or casting) for under $100?
I would honestly have to say right now, it is most likely my Abu Garcia Black Max matched with an Ugly Stik GX2 MH 6'6". Coming in just under $100
got an old clarus for 50 new and put a sienna on it
I like my Pflueger Templar on the Ugly Stick 7' Medim.
Baitcast: Diawa V.I.P. 6'9" MF with an Ambassadeur 1600C. However, my Berkley Lightning 6' MH and Daiwa Procaster 100HN ain't bad for less than $50.
Spinning: 6' Lightning and Penn 430SS. Both around 40 years old. No idea of price, but can guarantee less than $100. Probably closer to $50.
I have a Pflueger President mounted on an Oddssey spinning rod I bought for half price at $20, in fact I have several in different actions.
Tough one because I don't have hardly any combos under that price range. I'd have to say my browning silaflex (a fiberglass spinning rod) with a pflueger president. It's okay at tossing smaller cranks under 1/4 of an ounce or small topwaters like zara puppies.
I only have 2 combos in that price range. A browning ultralite combo and an ugly stick spinning rod with a mitchell avocet silver i use for catfish now. Ive never had a problem with my ugly stick. Not the most sensitive, but ive had it going on 15 years and put it through a ton of abuse and its held up to everything, even falling on it on rip rap then catching a 20 lb flathead an hour later. The avocet i havent had near as long, but i havent had a hiccup from it and it has a smooth drag, which is a must when fighting large catfish
6'6" ML BPS Bionic Blade and Shimano Sedona 2500. Got the bionic blade on sale for around 40 and the Sedona is 59.
6' 8" M/F Ethos with an H2O Mettle casting reel. Bought the rod on sale for $60, reel on sale for $30. Spinning would be my 6' 8" M/F Ethos spinning rod I got for $40 and Pfluegar President for $50.
2 piece 6' light action lightening rod with a ul trion. Haven't looked at in in 5-6 years, as far as I know it's in excellent shape. It's free to any one that wants it, be local I'm not shipping.
Shakespeare micro series 6'6" medium light paired with a Lews LG200 spinning reel. My go to set-up.
4600C3 and a pistolgrip uglystik.12 lb yo zuri.30 rod 50 for reel .prob caught 10 tho fish with this combo.
My shimano Sedona / lightning rod combo....she is 11 years old and goin strong!
Spinning: Pflueger President + Fenwick Eagle
I had a black max with a cabelas magtouch for a while got the combo for $100. It was a good frogging/flipping combo for the $.

The sedona is a great reel for the money! My first reel was a sedona sold it to my brother it's still working great! I would definitely recommend a sedona with a lightning rod or ugly stik as a spinning combo under $100.
I only have 1 combo that's under $100 so its my only choice. Black Max with a Falcon Bucco Micro 6'6" M/H. That whole combo cost me like $35 since the reel was free and Walmart sucks.
Shimano zeles

After reading this thread I used this outfit yesterday PM for the first time in about 5 years, had a ball catching bass and mayan cichlids on a crappie jig. I'm keeping it, lol.
Abu silver Max and 7 ft mh Berkley shock
Mine is my 7' MH Field and Stream inferno matched with my Pinnacle Matrix. I have caught tons of bass on it.
About as close as I can get to $100 is my flipping stick:
Deep South XXH flipping stick, used Flea Market purchase: $80
Daiwa TD-X 103HSDL Flip/Pitch, used eBay: $40
Rod, reel, line, and chatterbait = ~$100.
The nine-pound bass was free...
I have a used Pflueger Trion spining reel I paid $9 for of ebay that was like new, mounted on a Berkley Lightning Rod shock that Wal-mart had marked down to $30. This rod/reel was in my hand when I won a tournament this past july, and also landed the tournament lunker. Not bad for $39.

You can say that about another thousand times.
My first combo before I found Bass Resource was a Quantum Accurist I got in clearance and an AllStar original rod. Paid $74 for the combo and it served me well till I joined this site and got addicted.
Shimano Sedona w/ a daiwa Laguna.
At $95 you can't beat it!
My best $100 combo was the Ugly Stick and BPS Tourney Special that got me into bait casting again. I tried BCs about 20 years ago but wasn't patient enough to really learn it and shelved the idea. The aforementioned setup turned out to be my training wheels that, with a lot of help from this forum, has lead to keeping the economy very strong in the way of 10 new setups (hopefully not many more this winter!), 3 kayaks, and all the 'needed' accessories.
Besides spending a boat load of money.... That $100 setup 'made' me (re)learn how to fish, resulting in becoming a better at it.
I gave that first setup to my friend's 1st year apprentice - a 22 YO kid who loves to fish and is saving for a house. He deserves it.
Bought these new- paid $24 for a St Croix Premier 6'6" MH/F rod and $75 for a Pfl Supreme XT making a good spinning combo.
Pflueger president and tec spec elite. With discounts it was right around 100. Great combo that had done me well on the reservoirs
Spinning: Berkley Lightning Rod Shock, Shimano Sienne
Casting: Berkley Lightning Rod, Shimano Cauis
The closest I can get is $110. I have a Cabela's Tournament ZX combo that is made up of the 2013 model reel (Rapala Shift) and the 6'9" M/F Tournament ZX rod. I paid $40 for the reel and $70 for the rod. I caught more than (40) 2-3lb smallies on this rig in Sept. It is capable but the reel gets a little "geary" under load. If one can get past that it's ok. Whats cool is it's extremely light and that makes it fun to use. Love the rod and for the price am likely to buy more....just need to put different reels on them as these are no longer available.
I like this "budget" challenge. It is fun and sometimes it's downright sobering as it can point out how much money can be so easily tinkled away.
