since i took my energy back this afternoon i am looking for a new reel, NO QUANTUMS, It has to be 120$ or under... what is THE best reel for this ammount of money, i was thinking citica e... what is your guys' input?
i like the revo sx . its a lil more than 120 but ive found them on the net in the 130s . they make a revo s for 100 but not as big of fan of them still nice but sx is just better
shimano citica D or E...take your pick.... ;D
i have a buddy at dicks that whenever i buy a bunch of tackle, i give him the money, he goes up front and buys it for me with his employee discount, so i can get a sx for 140, which i might be able to manage, if i get the citica i would get the e(more ergonomic), which is better for all around fishing? Revo SX or Shimano Citica E???
i would get the sx
haha i like the sx, but the citica e is lighter and has centrifigul brakes, which i like more, which has a better warranty? and which will outlast the other if cleaned and oiled/lubed every couple of months? answers to those questions will be helpful.
ive had my revos since they came out an have not had one problem . an ive used abu stuff for years an had lil problem with any of it . i swear by it
I've owned Daiwa, Shimano, and Abu Garcia. I prefer Abu Garcia. I've had Revos since they were introduced, and all mine have performed flawlessly.
Falcon
Curado E7. Especially if you are considering the Citica.
Nevermind, I missed your price range.
My fault. :
If you're interested in an SX, I have one that is practically brand new with box papers and all. I'll trade ya for that Citica E if you decide to get it. It's been out of the box, spooled and sat on shelf all summer. PM me if you decide on the SX and don't want to spend the extra money buying a new one.
If you like centrifugal brakes over magnetic, and your thinking of Abu Garcia, take a look at the Revo s over the sx. Other than initially finding out where I wanted the brakes on the s, I have yet to open them reel up to readjust. I have severeal of both reels, but honestly if the s was offered in black, I probably wouldn't have an sx. JMO
i luv my bass pro jonny morris signiture..have it on sale usually $179 but till the end of today 99 bucks
The Revo S is a fanatastic reel and represents the best value in the Revo line. It does everything virtually as well as the SC/SX/STX. Set up is a little different with the S than the others, but it will cast everything the others do just as well. It's also built exceptionally well and backed by Abu's excellent customer service.
Here are a few in your price range.
Shimano Citica 119.99
Daiwa Tierra 119.95
Pflueger Ascro 119.95
Abu Garcia Revo S 109.99
Shop around and you can find the Citica D on sale for around $75.
This is an outstanding reel that if properly maintained, will last a lifetime.
Shimano's motto is: Strong, smooth, silent and reliant.
You will not be disappointed.
p.s. If you are patient and save up a few more dollars, the new
Citica E pops up on our Flea Market occasionally. They are always
well priced.
8-)
The only problem with the Shimano is it's not a Daiwa or ABU!

Hmm, How is that a problem?lol
Later,
shimano citica e would be a smart move trust me ;D .... tackle tour did a review on the citica check it out....
U can find a shimano curadoD for that price.
I have 3 Shimano Citica's that I have never had a problem with since day 1. Can't say that about some Quantum and Daiwa reels that I have had replaced.
A quick search found citica E's as low as $99 with free shipping.

Two things to consider when purchasing a reel, the first is the reel itself. Drag, weight, performance and does it appeal to your eye.
Second and just as imprortant is customer service. I won't say who I don't like but I will tell you who I do. Any equipment serviced by Pure Fishing out of Spirit lake, Ia. Turnaround time is fast a week to ten days. They usually just send out a brand new reel no questions asked and they even pay the freight coming back to you. I have sent out of warrant reels back and they fix them free or replace it with a new one. For me it's abu or pflueger.
Anything Shimano.
The Shimano Citca E is ur best bet. IMO If you search the net, you should be able to find a Citca for 112 dollars. This includes tax and shipping.
I've got a citica E and absolutely love it. I have another one wrapped up under the tree.
I'm going against the grain from what most have said here. Bass Pro Shops Extreme, you can get 2 of them for that price (mostly anyway). On sale now from Bass Pro for $65 each plus shipping, but if you get lucky like I have seen here where I live, you can find them in local tackle shops for $60 each plus tax. These are excellent reels and I'm sure some will disagree with this but I'd put mine up against the Citica D or E any day. My brother in law fishes Curado D's and I've yet to see him do anything with his reels that mine won't do. I'm up to 3 of them now and possibly a 4th one could be coming.

I agree, all though have not used them, I have been looking for reels in this price range for months. And from what I have read, these are indeed the best reel for this price range! 8-)
THE SHIMANO CITICA.......$120......great reel!

Sallamander,
I have a Curado D I will trade you for that SX if you want.
The SX is the best reel for the money out there right now.
I have 3 BPS extreme reels and love them. You can't bet the price and performace. I guess if you spend $200 for a reel you are going to get a great reel, but for a guys with a family and kids. They are best for my dollar.
