Okay, I am an old guy, and this is undoubtedly a dumb question. First the confession, I have never really given braid a chance and I am thinking about trying it. Is braid suitable for jig and worm fishing? That is most of my fishing during the summer. What is it NOT good for.

I use it for everything, jigs included, on occasion. Just be wary when hooksetting.

I use it for everything, just change up leaders depending on what lures/presentation I'm fishing. I really like PowerPro, and a uni-to-uni knot makes it very easy to attach leader line to it.

I'm a mono type of guy. I use very little braid. Jigging is one technique I will try it with. According to Bronzefly (or was it Roadwarrior?) his hook ratio went up when he switched to braid.

I just put 50 pd. suffix performance braid on a CTE200GT in fluorescent neon fire, so I can line watch with a leader of 20 FC never used braid either hootie, but Iam wanting to add a little to my experience just to learn more about it all!
Casts and pitches fine, plus I can see it with a black light too... Nite time senko ledge fishing! Oh boy I feel 20 again, ok not really but hey it can't hurt to try it!!!

I use it for everything except when I have to switch to mono. I usually use a mono leader except for frogs & heavy vegetation.

You should try braid with topwater walking baits. The hooksets are excellent at long range.

I will almost exclusively use braid for jigs. The only time I dont is when I am using a smaller jig. Power pro is my favorite, that being said make sure you try all different kinds of braid and find the one you like the most. One thing to keep in mind also is that there is almost no stretch as opposed to fluro or mono.

I use braid on all of my baitcasters and spinning reels. Could mono or fluro work better in certain situations? Yes. But I'm too cheap. I've had the same Power Pro on one baitcaster for 6 years and it still works strong. I did just order some Sufix 832 though based on recommendations from people on here.

So in using braid now does this mean hootie and other new users will have to use a lil girl hook set? Cause my reflexes are 35 years developed, I may break a rod, oh well

Try 30-40 Power Pro on a single baitcaster to start. 150 yd will run you 12-14 bucks. Not a huge investment and a great line that's not going to let you down. I like Sufix 832 the best.
Like others, I use braid on almost everything except crankbait fishing or when I'm in a lot of rock/rip rap. I'm usually running straight braid and rarely use a leader. I think you'll be pretty shocked on how much sensitivity you'll gain. I forsee you changing out most of your spools in the near future...

Is a leader absolutely necessary? The lake I fish is really stained. Can't ever see a white spinnerbait more than 10 inches deep. Also the lake is very snag infested. Lots of laydowns.

I hate braid, and still, I have a couple of reels spooled with braid.
Plain braid is not good for fishing rocks, specially chunk rocks. It needs a leader.

Hootie, in- fisherman has a write up from a few different pros on leaders or not... I tryed to copy and post the link but was not successful it's a good read, I think you will find it valuable right now as I did.

Don´t use braid without leader in places like this:
Those rocks cut 50-60 lb braid like if they were shears.

A leader allows you to break-off when necessary. It is an absolute "must" if you fish rivers.
Abrasion resistance is another concern. I prefer a leader ALL of the time.

Okay, after all the opinions and a suggested article, I will be using a leader. Quite a few rocks in my lake. Final question, is a three ft. leader long enough?

I don't use a leader a ton. Only time I'm going to use one 100% is around rocks. I haven't had any issues that I can remember in wood. I usually tie on a leader that is twice the length of the rod, so my leaders are anywhere from 12-16'. I like this because I can re-tie several times without having to change the leader.
I like to use fluorocarbon at roughly 2/3 the strength of the braid I'm tying to. This helps reduce the line diameter difference, and I can break it off if need be.

I switched to braid for EVERYTHING then switched back to copolymer for EVERYTHING. I found that I actually caught 1/2 the Amy of fish with braid as I do with other lines. I believe it has to do with the noise, vibration, and leader knot. Why would a fish eat a jig if there is a pale blob jumping next to it (when the fisherman is jigging the jig)? Also, there is a reason you see guys like Jason Christie and others on tour using mono/fluoro with their bottom baits and swim jigs.
I haven't talked much about this on here because I know I'd get blasted, but that's my experience with braid. Ill never use it again except for very heavy cover and possibly spinning reels since you can reel the leader knot up in the spool, therefore moving the leader knot farther away from your fish and allowing your leader to absorb some of the vibration and maybe even noise too.

I used to use braid for everything, now I use it for anything with a single hook, for trebles I prefer the forgiveness of mono. Also I don't believe that fishing without a leader deters the bite.
