Ok I'm not responsible for any arguments this may cause. I had five reels to strip of old line today, annual deep clean and respool day. Anyway inspiration struck, I took the wife's mixer put one beater on it, tied the old line to it, wow that's the fastest I've ever removed line from a reel. Took about a minute each reel, I kept it on low and I was amazed how easy it was. Why didn't I think of this sooner?
I use this:
Berkley Line Stripper
Berkley line stripper works great.
This has been working well for years...
Tie it to the back of a car and drive away.
I put a small section of dowel rod into the chuck of a cordless drill. It works very similarly to the beater bar that you mentioned (which was brilliant, by the way), except you can just throw it away when you are done.

Thank you, what made it even easier is the beater is shaped so the lines slides of in one piece.

This is basically what I do too, except I wrap bubble wrap around the dowel to make it about 6" in diameter. This really gets the line off quick, especially when you're doing multiple reels.

Dude what is that, looks like an aerator pump. JK, am curious how it works, can't figure it out by just looking at it

Lol, it's a line remover! The bottom left & right tubes are for 2(ea) D size batterys, the Top is the motor head, as well as the line insertion point. Line enters the rear, into a dual set of rubber rollers, one is powered the other is inert... Peels line off very quickly, 200 yds in maybe 1:30.. So fast it creates major Static electricity ( at times). Batterys last 3 to 4 years depending.
all good and fine until the line gets caught or hits a knot and you're dragging your setup around on the road.On 2/19/2015 at 8:10 AM, Fishinthefish said:Tie it to the back of a car and drive away.

^^ This is the way to go. The spooling stations come with them (or at least they did) I've used one for years. I think it's faster than a drill.

There ya go!!
I learned something today!
Thanks

Yeah, that works pretty well. It's a pain in the butt to clean up, though.

I guess I'm behind the times. I just pull the line off by hand.
I chuck an old spool in the drill and let it rip.

I 2nd this. Throw it on a drill and let her rip. I like that you can take the line off of a lot of reels and not have to worry about taking the line off the stripper until you are done and it comes off the stripper in a neat pile.
While watching college hoops of course! March madness is almost upon us!!

Wow, after reading this thread, I'm gonna go tell my wife that I need to buy a stripper!
No, wait....
Let me rethink that...

Empty toilet paper roll slid onto cordless drill chuck. Can use it for lots of line removal or get rid of it after one wipe:)

x2 ... Plenty of time in the winter to get this done the old fashioned way for me. LOL
This is one of the many reasons I had kids.
Tie it to the neighbors mailbox and run down the street.
Lol I just take it off with my hands....
I'm behind the times too. Just mindlessly do it while I'm watching something on TV. I don't have a pit crew mentality about that particular project. But it's interesting to see what other people are up to.On 2/20/2015 at 8:11 AM, Bankbeater said:I guess I'm behind the times. I just pull the line off by hand.

I just did.
Me: "I need to buy a stripper."
Her: "Why?"
In all fairness, she's heard the word "stripper" thrown around here quite a bit. She wasn't sure what I was talking about. She told me her first thought was a "stripper clip," which is used to load Mosin-Nagant, Gewehr 88/05, and Mauser 98 rifles.
She's also tolerated me in bed with one or another fishing rod lately. She's been reading or crocheting, while I was stripping old line and filling new next to her. This is usually my reading time, but she knows I love tinkering with reels.
We have separate dressers, and I have a screw driven into mine that holds the new spool; tension is by o-rings. I can sit in bed and fill my reels!
She is a very understanding wife.

Never found the Berkeley gizmo to work for very long before the little rollers got grooved and unable to grab the line. Not even last through the first reel. Never worked at all for line under 15lb.
I like to use a plastic soda bottle with a bolt through the lid on a drill. Since I reverse my Braided Line to get more use out of it I take it off one bottle to another then reel it back on my reel.
Next time you need to change several lines try this. Lay all the rods in the pickup bed, tips pointing toward the rear. Open all bails or freespool. Grab all lines simultaneously and wind on your hand and elbow, (like I ask my wife not to with electrical cords), till there's no line left.
