Best Line to Use for Finesse Fishing (spinning reel) 2025

Hello, I am new to the forum and was wondering what type of line I should use and what test. People have been talking about hybrid line and was wondering if that works well with spinning. So should I use hybrid, braid, or flouro? I am mostly using this for finesse fishing, so dropshot, shaky head.

Use braid to a fluorocarbon leader. I used to fish straight fluorocarbon but switched to this the past fishing season and it works great.

Broken record time...............braid to fluoro leader is what I have been using for years. I don't plan to switch any time soon.

My favorite for finesse on spinning tackle is 15 pound braid to a 6-10 foot long florocarbon leader, usually 10 lb floro.
Although maybe got heavier floro for shakey heads but that's just because I like fishing heavier line with them.

I do both leader and straight flouro. I like 6lb sniper and p-line 100%.

I use a few different lines on my light action spinning rods. 10#PP, 5# Sunline Sniper, and 4# BPS Excel mono.

What most everyone said, I use 10# test Power Pro braid with Sunline Sniper fc using an Albright to join them.

Yhb 6 is very good but handling on smaller spinners is not great.

Pink Gliss but make sure your not is tight every cast. Best know is a double into knot for Gliss. I say pink because it is the most invisible line in the water. You get the strength and characteristics of braid in a sma diameter and invisible under water.

I don't fish with smaller spinning reels, all of them are 2000 - 2500 size so the line handles fine.

I actually use it as a leader in 6, 8 and 12 lb with 15lb yellow 832 as mainline.

I use it on my 1000 sized reels and I think "not great" is too strong. It is clearly "not amazing", but I found that after an outing or two it settled down and I stopped having any issues that were not at least partially user error. I like the bit of stretch it gives when I run small inline spinners and cranks for while peach but it still has enough strength if I get a surpise striper or pickerel on the line. The worst thing I will say about it is that it seems to not deal well with sharp pops of pressure. Trying to pull even a very small spinner with fine hooks can break a knot where if I give a slow steady pull I get it back more often than not.

I use 8lb Stren clear blue monofilament with no leader for finesse fishing for small and largemouth bass.

If you are new to fishing, and you choose to use braid, I would suggest not using a leader at least to start out. Those guys who use leaders all the time have gotten good at joining the lines. It takes some practice to get a good, solid, strong and small knot. Keep things simple and get some confidence in your ability to catch fish before advancing to more complicated techniques.

If you're fishing semi-slack presentations, I feel that FC is the best choice by far. The problem is that some brands have too much memory and create a lot of line management issues on a spinning reel. A high quality line like Tatsu or Seaguar's new Finesse FC line treated with some line and lure will avoid that problem.

50yd leader, does your braid touch the water often? I've been fishing 20lb Samurai with a fluro leader. Well this past Thursday my leader was down to like 2ft. The boater was catching them on a lite darter head think it was an eighth ounce or lighter and a 5" hand poured worm. He says tie one on, I did. Well we were in 20ft of water and my bait was all over the place, I couldn't fish it. He was using straight 7lb fluro. I'm gonna try straight fluro, would like to fish the Tatsu but not sure if they make it that light.

Braid to a fc or mono leader using a FG knot. My leaders are generally 6 feet or so. Not because I need 6 feet, but because it allows me to re tie multiple times and not have to re tie a new leader as often.

Tatsu 6# .0080D is $40/200 yard spool.
Sunline S Sniper 7# .0086D is $27/200 yard spool.
I am not a fan of Samuri braid due to wind knots, prefer Fins WindTamer braid.

Good advice. If you're fishing reasonably open water braid is abrasion resistant enough. And I sincerely believe it doesn't spook fish especially in lower tests. I like 24 lb. Gliss. It's a lot thinner than it's rating would indicate. (closer to 6 lb. Sufix 832). I've found the Fishin' Fool knot to be perfect. It's easily found online. Good Luck.

I used that on my gliss but then I tried doubling the line over about a foot then tied the fish-n-fool and got 4 more pounds of knot strength. The same doubling over of the line with the FnF on nanofil helps greatly as well.

Gliss is very small diameter line with equally low knot strength of less than 50%!

double uniknot for tiring to a leader but I'll tie an improved clinch knot if tying straight to bait. I never had a problem tying direct
