I'm in the market for another baitcaster and I need a little help. My max budget is around $160 for the reel. My options are lews,Abu, or shimano. So I just need input. Or I could turn the tables and buy another spinning setup. choices choices choices. Thanks for the help!
You'll probably have more Lew's options at that price
Shimano curado I 7.2.1 @ 179$ but I hear plenty
Good about the Diawa Tat's also...
At this price range it is almost easier to just decide what type of braking you like the best and find a reel that uses it. Reels in this price range are very competitive with one another.
Revo sx or revo s.
You should be able to find a Lews TP for under 160 if you shop around. IMO, easily the best bang for your buck when you find them at that price
I've been using a pro qualifier. What's the difference in braking?
Centrifugal, Magnetic, Dual, SVS, and Magforce are some of the more popular styles of braking. You will have to do some research to see where one has an advantage over the other.
Well d**n. Which is the most favored?
For 160 I would get the tatula. I've used shimano, abu, lews and daiwa and that tatula wins hands down for me.

I can tell you which one that I like, but you need to understand how each works and see which would fit your style of fishing the best. This is not something someone can tell you IMHO.

X2 what he said, if you decide spinning thats easy too,,,,,,,Stradic FJ in your favorite size!!
you can get a Daiwa Tatula on Amazon for around $100. Thats what i would do.
I'd get a Curado 200I, especially with the memorial day sales coming up.
I'd always pick spinning, I'd spend tops $100 on a freshwater reel to catch sub 10# fish. Pick a brand and model you like, they all perform well.

My last reel purchase was a Lews Tournament Speed Spool that I found for about $110. It has magnetic and centrifugal breaks. And I love it! With your budget, you should be able to get the Tournament PRO, which I think is basically the same thing but lighter. I'm not 100% sure on that though. What I do know though, is that however much you decide to spend, you'll get a lot of bang for your buck from Lews. I can't really speak about the other companies from experience though.
lews tp can b had for 148. that or the mee curado i

x2 at this price point you'd almost have to try to go wrong. It comes down to features, personal preference and of course the deal.
Don't forget that TW currently has the T3 Ballistic on sale for $110, and if you can stretch a bit more, the T3 for $198. Both great deals.
I'm going with a lews. Probably on a mojo bass or something like that. 40lb braid with a leader. Maybe
Lews Tournament Pro. 149.99
The new Curado I has received rave reviews.
I found that the Revo STX is one of the best bangs for your buck. It comes in three speeds; stx 6.4:1, stx-hs 7.1:1, or stx shs 8.0:1. If you use Ebay I highly recommend BigFishSports! They always have the best price (150.00) and are rocket fast in delivery. If I were to buy one this morning (Tuesday) I would have it Thursday! I've bought 5 from them and have yet to have any kind of problem! They also have other brands... I know I work hard for my dollar so I try to stretch it as far as I can and I've spent hours shopping for the best price available- they are the best price I've found yet!
As much as I like other reels, a curado g6 isn't bad for $120. But lews seems like a perfect reel

if you enjoy your Pro Qualifier you will enjoy a Lews, internally they are the same design and use the same type braking. The Lews is a smaller profile and weights less.
Then I'll be going with the lews. New reel will be going on the kayakOn 5/20/2014 at 11:49 PM, aavery2 said:if you enjoy your Pro Qualifier you will enjoy a Lews, internally they are the same design and use the same type braking. The Lews is a smaller profile and weights less.
1. Shimano Curado or Daiwa Tatula/Lexa
2. Revos SX
3. Lews, Pflueger (Bang for buck Supreme XT), Quantums,
Just my opinion based on use. Sometimes you can get a deal on this little Jewel of a reel,

Is there a specific reason lews is in last place? On 5/21/2014 at 12:27 AM, South FLA said:1. Shimano Curado or Daiwa Tatula/Lexa

Don't get me wrong they are good reels, but not a big fan of magnetic brake system compared to others, I believe they do offer a dual system on the higher end reels. So at that $160 price point I would pick the Pflueger Supreme XT, Daiwa Lexa/Tatula (yes, mag brakes, but better than MG), and the Quantum Smoke before the Lews. As well as the Curado E or I which can be found for $160. I have had mixed results with Revo series, but the pure centrifugal brakes ones shine the S series Revo.not the SX as I posted.

The Lews reels at the $160 price point have both magnetic and centrifugal breaks as well.
