Those rods that are just special 2024

fishing user avatarChief250 reply :

Let's here about rods and or combos current or previous production models that you think are just special for a certain technique. I'll start and not my highest end rod but there's something special about my Kistler H3 7'1 MH with an aldebaran on it. To me it's not even what I meant here because I don't use it for one specific thing but it's a beautiful balance of strength and extremely lightness

7’ Loomis IMX MBR with a Tatula SV TW for 3/8 jigs and swim jigs. Light, balanced, sensitive and beautiful.

Addermine, GLX 842S, SC LXtreme M F, and on the lower end the Crucial jerkbait rod

fishing user avatarMickD reply :

Rainshadow IP843, Seven foot, ML power, MF action, perfect for snapping swim baits (3.5-4") off the bottom, slow rolling them, drop shot, Ned, small cranks.  About everything light exc tubes, although my son likes his for that, too.  I like a little more power in my tube rod.

Many on this forum have commented really positively on the St Croix SCV ML, F as a favorite of theirs. I expect this rod is a lot like the St Croix, which I have not built yet.

fishing user avatarMobasser reply :

Lews Tennessee handle medium spin rod, and ABU Zebco Cardinal 4 reel. Perfect 4" worm, Bitsy Bug jig, grub rod. Would be very hard to replace it

Funny how that works out my favorite rods arent my most expensive high end either. Just cause something has a high price tag doesnt mean every person will like it.

Casting--My gen1 Quantum Smoke 7' M/F is my favorite rod and used mostly for Ikas and 3.8" Keitech paddle tails.

Spinning--St Croix Avid 8' ML/Mod this I use mostly with senkos and 2.8" paddle tails. I dont think one person would say this moderate action rod would be a good senko rod but it suits me perfectly and I prefer it over my Legend Elite M/F.

i know its only E6X but I love the 7'6 length in the MBR taper of my MBR903c E6X. I have it paired with a curado 200i, 12 pound Sufix Siege and its great.

a shout out to the Loomis GL3 SJR700 mag light spinning rod as well, its a little gem of a rod, i have it paired with a 1000 size shimano. its awesome with 6 pouind test Sufix Siege.

Which model do you love for this technique?

fishing user avatarSwamp Yankee reply :

I really love my G Loomis SJR6400 Mag light spinning rod. Five foot four with a full cork grip and sliding rings for a reel seat. I paired it with a Shimano Sahara 500 reel and 10# Sufix braid.

I love it for weightless Zoom Fluke Jrs on a light wire Lunker City texposer hook, size 1/0 ....one of my favorite rigs. It tosses them a country mile.

I also throw small jerkbaits with it, and if the bass aren’t biting, it’s great for jigging Crappie.

I’ve taken bass well over 4 pounds with it so it has the backbone I need, but it also has an extra fast tip so it’s just a joy to fish.

The Falcon Cara T7 Head Turner has always been one of my favorites. Just an incredibly versatile stick that does everything well.

Daiwa Tatula 6'10" MH with Tatula SV TWS

fishing user avatarscaleface reply :

My worm /jig rod is an  inexpensive   6'8"     Berkely TGS [ tiatnium guide system ] that I picked up on clearance somewhere . Three times I tried replacing it but keep going back to it. I just like the feel of it . The handle is a little shorter and the foregrip is perfect for my style of fishing .

Avid on up 68mxf St Croix spinning rods

Daiwa Tatula 72mhr is just so good at so much

The NFC MB807 blank is the cats meow in much the same way as the Tatula, just lighter, longer & more sensitive.

Uribe M1 is a mindblowingly good 100 rod that does so much.

I've got a few.   I like my Bucco Trap Caster - had it for 4 or 5 years now.   I've got a 6'3" Diawa LT Finesse spinning rod, purchased 2000? 2001?   I keep trying to bench it and get a better shakey head rod, but I keep coming back to the Light & Tough.

This is my pick too.  The 6'8" M-XF Avid X is my favorite rod of those I own.  It is just perfect for flukes, senkos, and other weightless or lightly-weighted plastics, but handles shakyheads, neds, sliders, grubs, tubes, paddletails, and small topwaters and jerkbaits like a champ as well.

You mention a combo that's easily 700 dollars -which I know is very high end for 75% of fisherman.

fishing user avatarJunger reply :

I really enjoy the Tatula Elite 7' M/MH AGS with a SV105 (with a inductor modification). After having one of these set ups for several months, I bought another same set up.

He said "not my highest end rod". HIS.

And that rod that can be had for $180 on sale.

fishing user avatarColumbia Craw reply :

Dobyns Extreme 702SF matched with a Diawa Ballistic LT 3000.  My drop shot set up. it has all the attributes of a fantastic drop shot rod.  It was a little spendy but well worth the investment.

fishing user avatarLogan S reply :

Megabass XX Spinnerbait Special with a E-series Scorpion DC - For Spinnerbaits (shocker I know ????).  For me this rod is about as perfect as it gets for spinnerbait fishing and I've been very dissapointed that Megabass discontinued the model.

I could probably make an argument for several rods I own as being 'special' but that one is what came to mind immediately when reading the thread title.

Am I reading that right that you're fishing a 10oz Calcutta on a 844c?

I have the same rod and with the older Calcutta 251.  Works great.  I use it for just about anything and everything.

fishing user avatarhaggard reply :

StC 6'6 Premiere in medium/fast (PC66MF/PC66MF2) with a Shimano Caenan 151 6.3:1. Combo was about $220.

This was my first baitcaster combo and still feels like home, even though I have "better" setups.

I prefer to take 2-4 combos on an outing, but I'd have no problem taking just this one, if I had to. Versatile.
