Been looking at and reading/watching some reviews....what would be a good rod for this reel? I do lots of jerkbait fishing. Husky jerks, x raps, flukes and so on. I fish other stuff as well but typically stay away from the "big baits"......what's yalls thoughts? Been looking at some st croix mojo bass stuff but haven't really settled in to anything yet.
Mojo won’t balance out with a 2500 Stradic I tried it before I sent the rod back and got a zodias which ballances out perfectly. You don’t have to get a zodias but I don’t recommend the mojo spinning rod for that reel.
I fished mine today, a 2500 Stradic Ci4+, with a 7 ft St Croix TRS70MF. But, I didn't use it with my soft jerk baits in the typical manner where you point the rod tip down, standing from a boat deck, and the rod action looks like a dowsing rod pulsing down looking for and finding water.
I think this might be part of what Burro is concerned about, the balance issue for that jerk bait technique. Too, I think most of the anglers use a shorter rod so that when they make those downward snaps of the rod tip to "jerk" the bait on its retrieval, it is well above the water line. A too long rod would be tough to use. Maybe a 6'6" or so?
I suppose it depends on how you are fishing it, from what platform.
One of mine today caught on a St. Croix 5'6" rod, Medium, Fast, 10 lbs. braid to 8 lbs. leader and using a Shimano Nasci reel. Worked pretty good! Short rods work GREAT from kayaks!

i Would suggest if you can take it in store and try them out! Mine is on Zodias rod, balances out nicely.
Maybe Phenix feather rod?
I appreciate the replies. I do fish from a kayak so that would be a factor. That being said though I have a 7 ft. Rod that I use already, and a 6'6 rod and I can use both pretty comfortably. I'm going for weight reduction. Yesterday (from a boat and standing) my wrist was killing me working that jerkbait. We fished hard and caught a bunch but I was ready to call it a day because of the pain and the fish were still biting like crazy....that's not me at all.
Loomis E6X SJR842
Hulkster can you tell me more about your experience with that rod please?
The rod really doesn't care what reel you use. But the techniques, lure weights, and water conditions (weeds, brush, open?) you plan to fish should direct you to the right action and power. Then buy the best you can afford, shop sales.

I have not fished with this rod but I do own two other E6X rods and like them. I do have the SJR842 in GL3 version and really like the taper. its a great do it all rod that's not too heavy. Which is why I suggested the same rod in the E6X version. It should be great as well.
Can anyone who has fished with the E6X SJR842 comment?
What about the shimano zodias? Does it come in a medium power, fast action spinning rod?

Yes, in a 6'8" fast.
Thank you Frank. All I could find online was a med lite rod.

I would recommend finding a rod with a reel seat/grip that fills your hand well. I avoided my spinning rods like the plague when bass fishing for exactly the reason that you experienced yesterday (and this was when I was in my late teens and early 20's).
After I built myself a few casting rods, I decided to give a spinning rod a go. I settled on a split TN handle with the reel wrapped on with thread and finish, just like a guide. The grip is just long enough to fill my hand and allow me to put my thumb and index finger on the blank, if I want to. I can set the hook and fish without pain shooting up my forearm. The difference is amazing!
Edit: Added Captions and to say
A rod with a size 18 seat will fill you hand much better than the standard 17 mm seat and much better than the split seats that are seeing more use today.

I have mine on St. Croix Legend X — love it.

Duckett Micro Magic Pro. Take your reel into Bass Pro and try it on. That combo is ridiculously light.

I use that same E6X rod. Mine is paired with a Daiwa BG 2500. So far I love it, but I'm a Loomis homer. I've only fished wackys on it so far. Great rod.
Your reel balances perfectly with Major Craft NAS-WJ701MH rod, $119.

Grub man those look pretty slick. Also can yall tell me how this reel would balance out on that 6'8 zodias?

Optimal
I use the Kistler Helium 3 with my Stradic Ci4+. It balances perfect and is the lightest setup I have. I also use a Kistler KLX with another Ci4+. Still balances perfect just a tab bit heavier.

Thanks!
The ci4 is so light that just about anything is going to feel a bit tip heavy. The rod in my middle pic is a 6'10" MXF and going to get an old Sahara 2500fb wrapped on. It is going to feel great in hand, but that reel is 2.7 oz heavier than the ci4.
The palm swell on the Zodias, if it lands in your hand the right way should go a ways toward helping with the pain. A lot of guys like the palm swell on spinning rods, but they never seem to match up well with the curvature of my hand.
The most important post on this string advocates a larger reel seat for improved ergonomics. Right on! All the rest will most likely not improve the comfort. If anyone is worried about the hand pain that comes from all day fishing a certain technique, either get a rod with a larger seat or alter yours with a "palm swell" addition. Not hard to do.
The Zodias was made to balance that line of reels. Before I sent my Stradic back it balanced perfectly on my Cajun Custom Rods Trigger. I love that rod but its slower than a lot of people like.
I just picked up a Zodias 7' M on a warranty for my 6'8" Cumara. I have it paired with a Ci4 2500 and really like the setup so far. the rod is crisp and sensitive. I think it is going to be a winner.
I just figured I'd post and say the zodias rod came in today. I must say that this is a good looking, very light weight rod that feels good in my hand. Now if that reel will hurry and come I cant wait to take it out fishing. Thank you all for the advice. I really appreciate it!

A buddy is pairing his ci4+ with a Shimano Zodias 7ft medium heavy. He loves it, I have not held it or fished it so can't be certain, but he raves about it. Kind of a st Croix fan myself.
That's a terrific reel. It'll match up with most bass rods. Pretty much anything but a 7' 6" MH. In that case, it'd feel a little small.
