ive never used flouro before and was looking at berkley vanish, has anyone got any experience with this line.
i would be using 17 lb test for t-rigs, jigs, and spinner baits.
Imma gonna take it you haven't done a Google
on Vanish?
Got a lotta naysayers. Me? I had some in 10# test,
but it's been gone for a while. Probably good as
a leader, but brace yourself for the love! I kid...
I seriously don't understand who buys Vanish more than once for Berkely to keep producing it.
If you don't want to drop a lot of coin but still want some solid fluoro properties try some Yozuri Hybrid or some P-line CX. It's cheap and super strong. You won't need 17lb. I wouldn't suggest anything over .15 diameter as it will be harder to manage and you're not catching a bass that will require that much line strength.
google is a good tool to learn to use
If you like your fish and lures to "vanish" you picked the right line. Don't even use it for leader material, not worth the headache.

A handful of guys on the tourney trail up here swear by it for anything 8# and under. General consensus is its crap 10# and up. Idk I never used it just off the terrible reviews online. But that is a good question why they keep producing it!
Man, if you are going to try FC get REAL FC.
How is this stuff still being sold?
Im looking at it like this. IF all of you claiming its junk just bought one roll to try it and give a honest evaluation then that explains why they keep making it.
OP To me 15 lb Big Game mono even 17 lb catches fish all day but if you want fluorocarbon i'd say 15 lb is plenty heavy. That stuff to me is junk the heavier you get so you really don't want any heavier than you have to go.
Vanish was the 1st FC I tried, and I did NOT like it. Hard to manage & I had numerous break offs on good fish.
Tried a few others before finally settling on Invizx. I've been using the 12 and 15 lb tests for a couple of years now and really like it.
There are too many FC and copolymer options that are much, much better. InvisX, AbrasX, Sniper, Shooter, Tatsu, etc are all much, much better FC, and Hybrid and CXX are d**n near indestructible in the nasty stuff and still retain a lot of FC properties. And Hybrid, somehow, is still the cheapest stuff (and maybe best leader material) out there.
I use 2lb Vanish for my trout leaders and it works fine, I once reeled in a 4.5lb trout on it, no breakage. I've read the first batches of Vanish were brittle and caused a lot of headaches and turned people off but Berkley re-worked the line and the breakage issues no longer occur. But reading some of these other posts, maybe the heavier # test isn't as good as some of the other options available.
I used to use vanish as main line and hated it. I then use the rest for leader which got a lot of break off on 6lb.

My step dad and all of his fly fishing buddies use it for leader. They use 6lb for salmon and I've seen them land all kinds of fish that would smash the bass world record on it.
I've used it once as a bass leader and had a lot of problems with it.
I used it about 6-8 years ago. Must be I got the only good spool the produced. I wish I would've joined BR back then so I knew it was junk I would've kept it....it would probably be worth a fortune someday having the only good spool they ever produced!
Seriously though I never had any issues. I haven't used it since but the one spool was good.
I use 4lb vanish for ice fishing leader. Never had any problems with it, but then again, I probably never pushed it to the max.
Bought a roll for $5 at walmart, never tried this brand but I've got nothing to put it on right now.
here is the deal with vanish.... its actually a pretty good line, if you change your line about every 2 weeks. it is very supple and handles pretty well but if it gets water on it or in the spool, it will start to break prematurely after about 2 weeks.
the more expensive vanish 100% flouro is stronger but it handles like crap.
I am a fan of seagar red label. it is cheap and handles very well. other good ones that I have used are seagar invizx, vicsious pro elite and regular viscious. of all of those the regular viscious is my least favorite because it is stiff but they are all adequate for strength.

I had the same problem with Vanish. As soon as it got wet it would break!
Buy Seaguar Red Label..

Vanish should banished.

Grab yourself some Yo-zuri Hybrid as you can get a 600 yard spool for 10 bucks(5.00 on clearance at Walmart sometimes).Or pony up and get some Sunline Shooter/Assassin and be done with it.

the chances are greater of me pulling my own hair out to use as line than spending nearly 40 dollars on a single spool of line.
so i can see alot of hatred towards vanish,
what about the stren flouro ? is it worth anything ?

I never used Vanish, but my dislike for Stren rivals some of the above hatred of Vanish....you've got a half dozen or more suggestions above...funny, but none of them are for Stren...and few of them are $40/spool....what's the question?

I use 8lb Stren Flurocast for dropshotting. I like it. Haven't had any issues with it so far.

I've used stren mono (only mono I'll ever likely use again) and thier braid before,(pretty good stuff as well).
The only line brand I hate is spider wire. Tried one spool of mono when I couldn't find any stren, never again will I touch that brand.
Most of the FC line from Seaguar or Sunline averages around $20 for 200 yard spool.
Stren is 1/2 the price and you get what you pay for. Whatever you choose get line conditioner like KVD or Tangle Free.

I have been using Vanish 6lb on my spinning gear for three years now. No complaints from me, I like it a lot.
Feel free to move this reply to the Bass Fishing Blasphemy thread.

Again, I'll suggest the Seaguar Invizx. You can usually get a spool of it cheaper at Academy Sports than anywhere else, like $18. Sometimes they'll mark it down as cheap as $12. I know it's more expensive than mono/nylon lines or Vanish fluoro, but to me it's worth it. I'll always spool my reels with FC like I do with braid. I fill the reel spool about 1/2 way with super cheap mono, then top off with the expensive fluoro or braid. Saves a lot of expensive line.
If that option doesn't work for you, then just use some Berkley Big Game or Yozuri Hybrid. Both are good lines & very economical.
I have used a lot of different types of flouro and the best value i have found is p-line 100%. It costs just the same as the other good lines like seaguar except you get 250 vise 200 yards. I get three good fills on 15lb which is what i use on my jig rod. It seems to be the best value and if you have extra it makes great leaders.
Yo-zuri is fantastic and i use that a lot to!!!!
