So today I dragged my not so willing girlfriend to come fishing!!
I caught 2 both under 2lbs but just over 1lb.
My girlfriend got tired after 10 minutes and wanted to leave. But I found a spot right as we were going to leave, with tons of thick weeds that were on the top of the water..
I convinced her to throw a frog on the top (She's caught 2 bass in her life with worms), and she was throwing it on the top, and BAM, she got a hit, but pulled to quick..
to make a long story short, she hooked that sucker and got him in. Just barely under 2lbs. Here's a pic..
Also, I need some advice, I'm going to be going to that same spot, Big bass were jumping out of the water but I couldnt' see what they were eating.. Solid 3-6 pound bass were straight jumping out of the water..
Any idea what they could be feeding on, I didn't see any types of minnows or anything...
What works well for these situations, heavy cover on the top, fish jumping, what works well?
Thats a keeper!
Oh yeah, nice fish too.

Haha, She's pist that I posted it cause it's a "Bad Picture", Girls these days!
I consider it her first REAL BASS. Nice Size, took skill and timing to catch it, no fluke or accident about it..
THAT'S THE FIRST TIME SHE'S EVER HELD A FISH, FOR A YEAR NOW SHE'S REFUSED TO HOLD ONE.
buzz bait. as slow as you can go while keeping it on top.
Are you sure the fish jumping are bass? Carp jump alot and people think they are bass sometimes. If they are bass, they could be going after dragonflies ( a little early for that I think ) or other insects on the water. As far as what to use...try anything is what I would do. I saw bass jumping 1-2 feet out of the water last summer when dragonflies were landing on the surface. I tried all kinds of topwater and everything else, and nothing worked. They were definitely bass, I could see them clearly. I would imagine fly fishing would have been the ticket. When all else fails...try Senko's!!
More of the woman, less of the fish!

Yah, positive that 50% of them were bass, the others I didn't see just heard, but I def saw several bass jumping out of the water. It was strange, I saw nothing landing on the water at all... Tried SuperFlukes and such but nothing...
Maybe I should bring my fly rod next time and see... That'd be awesome, bass on a fly rod!
I've heard that there is a time in the early summer where bass feed on dragonflies alot. I'd try a dragonfly-looking fly on the fly rod and see what happens.
Try one of these: River2Sea Dragonfly Pop70
I'm going to order some dragon flies today! Those things look KILLER!!!
One problem:
The hook is on the d**n bottom... I can't drag it on the top of heavy weeds which is tough due to the way the water is laid out..
There's about 3-4 ft from shore to the heavy top water weeds, and then 2ft of the heavy weeds, then open water again... Not sure if you can understand what im' saying... But I hate to get these $10 things hung up..
lol sweet, dragon flies ...i love those things
I tried those artificial dragonflies and one wing broke off immediately and they are very light so they are difficult to cast any distance.
If you want to have a shot at catching those Bass try this. Get a couple of packs of the Zoom Speed Worms with the Ultra Vibe tail. Rig one with the lightest(I use 1/8 oz) weight screw-in or pegged bullet weight and a 4/0 EWG hook. Here is the important part; rig it so that the hook goes through the seam(mold-mark) of the worm with the 'V' of the worm's tail pointing down, and with the worm perfectly straight.
Now, throw it past the area you see them jumping in. Start reeling(6/1 reel helps here) just as the worm rig hits the water and don't stop reeling until a Bass stop's it for you You are throwing a very subtle but effective soft-plastic "buzzbait" but being "subtle", it doesn't spook the Bass as a buzzbait may. That inverted(turned down) Vibra Tail catches the water and makes a very natural sound as you buzz the worm rig back. Color is not important IMO but I've used their Junebug and their Blackberry color down here.
You will put me in your Will.....but don't worry, I'm way older than you are ;D!

Thank you! I will be trying this for sure next time I go. I'm returning there on Saturday again, so pray for me that it'll be the same situation!

I gave her one of my rods, I still use it as a 2nd or 3rd rod when not with her, but for the most part, it's her rod now..
She's getting the hang of it. She's a pro with the frog, I'll have to ask her for advice next time I use it.
Man, what a great day.
Pretty, pretty girlfriend.
Has anyone told her that she looks like Brittany Spears? (before she went Psycho)
Beautiful day, beautiful bass, beautiful girl.
Stop and smell the roses my friend.
Life won't get much better than this.
All I want to know is how you got your girlfriend to go with you. My girlfriend complains everytime I go fishing but will never go when I ask. I might have to show her this thread!

She always complains when I go fishing, and she had never been, so I sorta convinced her to try it. Took a bit of time, but she realized, she doesn't like me going because I dont' talk to her on the phone or see her when I'm fishing, so why not come with me so she can spend more time with me..
Oh, and Avid, people say she looks like Brook Hogan, Hulk Hogans daughter,

Yup, I can see that.
Good job on getting her involved. Now she doesn't rag on you and you have a fishin' buddy as well as a girlfriend.
What was the question? Aaaaaaaaaaaaa, well, uh....
Nah, those jeans don't make her look fat.
:
WE ARE NOT WORTHY!!!!!!
8-)
Only thing Brook Hogan has that your girl doesn't is an extra 30 pounds of chub
I've been getting G/F's involved in my fishing for over 20 yrs. Best move ever.
Hint: Hit the grocery store, grab a couple filet mignons, broccoli, summer squash, bell red pepper.
marinate the filets the night before. Cut veggies, place on tin foil, add some seasoned salt and a few pats of butter and enclose veggies in tin foil. wrap the whole thing in another layer w/ seam on opposite side, toss in fridge next to marinating steaks.
toss mini grill and propane in car w/ tackle box, etc
!/2 way thru trip, fire up grill and have yourselves a lakeside chow.
Back to fishin'
I promise, you'll remember those days.

Listen to this man. Cooking is the way to a girls heart. I get an earfull of stories from Russ everytime I go up there to fish. I always leave feeling like a better bass angler and a fricken stud. Nice fish. She's a cutie
I've been cooking for my girl for 8 years and I still can't get her to go fishing with me. You are one lucky man.
sounds like good times w/ your gal...and what all the others said as well...
