Answer: You can get a left handed, or get a right handed. When you cast with the right handed model you will have to move the rod back over to your other hand. Me personally I'm a lefty and I use right handed casters so I don't have to switch hands after the cast.

Why such a low capacity spool . If I’m using 15#test mono I won’t get much line on this spool.

Answer: Looks to me like an aluminum "shallow" spool (not made to take much line) and a graphite frame .It's a neat little reel; very compact and lightweight.

Answer: In my experience no, even with a digitally controlled reel you will still get backlashes. Get used to using your thumb, it will give you control to accurately place your bait in the strike zone.

Answer: This is a very good reel. Piscifun makes excellent fishing gear. If you use a light line, then you should be fine. Like a light Spiderwire line with a 4 pound fluorocarbon leader. I would definitely use this reel with an ultralight rod, as long as you use the correct lures, you should be good.

Answer: It could be used to BFS and you are suggested to use more than 0.18 oz lure.

anyone just getting into bait casters or looking for a replacement one this is it spooled it up with 12lb mono 6ft6in rod used 1/8 and 1/2 oz jigs was down to the river casting for about 3 hours dialed it in and was off to the races was out casting a guy with a spinning rod for distance if your on a budget and don't want to break the bank this is the reel and i matched it up to a 6ft 6in medium rod rod was under 60 bucks no birds nests but murphys law is always there.

I had low expectations for this off-brand reel, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised overall. The tension knob and the brake control feel cheap, with a lot of play in them, but otherwise it feels solid where it matters - the gearing, the drag, and casting. One other cost saving measure was the ceramic insert in the line guide. Instead of standing proud of its housing on either side, it actually sits inside. I was initially concerned that the line would rub the housing, but thankfully it doesn’t.

It’s very lightweight, with essentially everything but the gearing made from composites/plastic. The thumb bar takes more effort than I would like to depress, but it locks back nicely with just the slightest movement of the handle. Anti-reverse, like most reels these days, is excellent, with little to no reverse movement when setting the hook. Drag is also very good, with smooth adjustment and solid and consistent tension.

It casts a mile, with the spool spinning very freely. The spool is also composite, making it light as a feather, so there is very little inertia to overcome. Gear ratio is very fast at 8.1:1, pulling in about three feet of line per turn of the handle.

One thing to note: it is not clear from the product listing, but this is considered by the manufacturer to be a BFS (bait finesse system) reel. BFS reels are generally intended to be used for lighter lures and lines, and the spool on this reel bears that out - it is the smallest in terms of capacity that I’ve ever seen. I generally use 30lb braid because I fish small lakes and ponds with lots of cover, and I had to step down to 18lb. It does hold plenty of 18lb thankfully. That said, this is not a suitable reel for heavy pitching and flipping rods.

Ultimately, for $40, it’s a decent reel, but the loose tolerances on the tension knob and brake control would make me look elsewhere. Specifically, I’d spend the extra $10 to $20 and buy the Abu Garcia Black Max or Silver Max.

If you love to fish, you'll love this baitcasting reel. I put this on my best fishing rod, filled it with line, and went out fishing with it. It has a smooth cast, a great feel, and allows you to tailor it your specific casting style with the magnetic breaking mechanisms. By adjusting the knobs, I was able to stop it from kinking or backlashing at all. It was easy to throw out lures from the smallest to a full 5” lure.

This Piscifun right handed fishing reel is actually pretty decent for the low price. It’s not the bottom of the barrel price wise but I wouldn’t call this middle of the road either.

To be honest, I had my husband add it to my fishing rod. It was the first time we’ve done it ourselves without my dad who is the expect helping! It was a success! The reel is super lightweight. I like the color. It does not include fishing line. It casts pretty well. It reels in decently for lightweight fish but when I had a big one it wasn’t too great. I would recommend this mostly for kids or small fish catching.

An 8.1 GR BFS reel for $40? Ya this is gonna break in days, too cheap to be any good....... Put it on a MLF rod and tied my homemade 1/8oz skirted crappie jig and off to testing. Holy crap, it works! It works well, feels amazing, and boy can it cast. 30+ yds on 1/8? Check. Clean retrieve? Check. Nasty drag for the trophy slabs? Check. Very impressed by this reel so far. Bought it cuz I saw it on Kuphall's boat at Guntersville when he blasted the field. Good enough for him, good enough for me. He's a pro, I'm not. Would be devastatingly effective for flipping medium cover I believe, based on the specs and what I know it does well. For short porching frogs or as a heavier BFS reel, it just wows me. Ordering 2 more: OG will be for BFS, 6.6 for frogs, and the new 8.1 for flipping. Nice find. Bought a PFun years ago and the difference is amazing. Way to step up. Easily competes w/$100 range reels.

I ordered this based on the high reviews.
I am a fairly decent bass fisher. I have 8-10 rod/reel setups. It's not my first rodeo.
So I spooled it with Trilene 8lb mono.
It casts well. No issues.
But it retrieves terrible. If it has ANY kind of resistance, and I mean as in...a shallow (2-3') crank runs to 3', it becomes difficult to crank. Hangs up, becomes jerky. I can't imagine what it would feel like trying to bring in a 1-2lb fish.
NOT recommended.

I was pleased to examine the "super compact, Piscifun Spark Low Profile Baitcasting Fishing Reel. It was well packaged and came with a much abbreviated but adequate "How To Use" sheet. I have been away from bait casting reels for a very long time and grew tired of spin casting and monofilament line. So, I am looking forward to using this reel with an appropriate bait casting rod. I tried all of the functions and found the mechanisms all work smoothly and seem rugged enough to withstand my light duty fishing use. I see this reel as excellent for pond and small lake fishing. I will update this review after I gain some real life experience with the reel.

Well I was able to use the spark from Piscifun this weekend an WOW!! Super smooth, amazingly long casts, smoooooth as butter Drag system, extremely light and fits in the hand perfectly. The 8.1:1 was set up with 14lbs Fluorocarbon and the rod in 7’6” MH F, I couldn’t believe how far this setup casted, super impressed and is now a huge hitter in my Line up!!
