Questions about Piscifun Spark Baitcasting Fishing Reel Super Compact, 16.5 LB Carbon Fiber Drag, Magnetic Brake System Low Profile Baitcaster Reel
Q:
How many gramd does the spool weght?
Answer: Not lite enough
Q:
What are the grips made of?
Answer: The handle is made of rubber. Hope it could help you.
Q:
have fished a lot with a spinning reel and i turn the handle with my left hand. I'm right handed, Get a left handed model?
Answer: You can get a left handed, or get a right handed. When you cast with the right handed model you will have to move the rod back over to your other hand. Me personally I'm a lefty and I use right handed casters so I don't have to switch hands after the cast.
Answer: We are both right handed and have always fished with left handled spinning reels. Ours are left handled.
Answer: If u cast with your left hand u need a right hand reel, visa versa
Answer: yes i have one myself its right on the page when you order
Q:
What's the difference between this and the pro?
Answer: Spark: 7+1 Ball Bearings, Spark Pro: 11+1 Ball Bearings. There also other difference. You can see more detail in the product page.
Answer: To be real with ya , it’s just a name an the original that I got works better than any other 200 dollar real. It’s a good buy honestly
Q:
Why such a low capacity spool . If I’m using 15#test mono I won’t get much line on this spool.
Answer: i use 17 lb test mono on mine you wont cast it over 100 yards besides most proanglers only put about 50 yards of usable line on their reels rest is fill reason cost efficency and again you wont cast that far maybe 100 fgeet the most get a grip of it
Answer: It is a sub-compact reel, thus lower capacity. No need for that much anyway, like the other person said.
Q:
Please someone can tell me the spool size, bearing size & side plate bearing size?? From the spark reel??
Answer: You could always contact piscifun for that answer
Q:
Will this reel cast 1.5g baits
Answer: This reel could cast at least 5g.
Answer: 1.5g is a real light bait. You would have to use light line and play with the brake adjustments, you should be okay. However it won't be easy.
Q:
Is this good for bfs? Can it use 4lb.test mono?
Answer: Sure, it could use 4lb.
Answer: YES to both questions.
Q:
Is this a BFS reel?
Answer: It could be used as a BFS reel
Answer: To a degree yes. However I would explore AliExpress for better BFS options.
Answer: Yes, this reel can be used with 6g/0.2 oz fishing bait.
Q:
What are the materials? spool, frame .other than what's listed. there's missing information even on piscifun page.
Answer: frame is metal , handle is aluminum spool aluminum , shell plastic or carbon im no chemist, i have the 8 to 1 left hander no birds nests i have it rigged with14 lb berkley vanish on a 7 ft med hevy lews hank parker casting rod no problems comparable to my diawas and shimanos that cost 3 times as much
Answer: Looks to me like an aluminum "shallow" spool (not made to take much line) and a graphite frame .It's a neat little reel; very compact and lightweight.
Answer: I would not recommend this... it came with missing and broken parts and I sent it back twice
Answer: I would not buy
Answer: Plastic with holes
Q:
Can you set this reel up thumb-less like some other reels? Are the brakes strong or not? Thanks!
Answer: what is thumbless ?never heard of it and ive been fishing over 60 plus years ,brakes you mean magnets for controlling spool overrun or drag mechanism ? you set it up like one would like any other baitcaster
Answer: In my experience no, even with a digitally controlled reel you will still get backlashes. Get used to using your thumb, it will give you control to accurately place your bait in the strike zone.
Q:
Can you throw frogs on this?
Answer: Yes, it can, the high gear ratio is more suitable.
Q:
Is this a BFS reel?
Answer: It could be used as a BFS reel
Answer: To a degree yes. However I would explore AliExpress for better BFS options.
Answer: Yes, this reel can be used with 6g/0.2 oz fishing bait.
Q:
does it come with line
Answer: Sorry, the reel will not come with line.
Q:
Can this reel throw a 1/8 oz lure with a ultra light rod for bfs/uls?
Answer: This is a very good reel. Piscifun makes excellent fishing gear. If you use a light line, then you should be fine. Like a light Spiderwire line with a 4 pound fluorocarbon leader. I would definitely use this reel with an ultralight rod, as long as you use the correct lures, you should be good.
Answer: It could be used to BFS and you are suggested to use more than 0.18 oz lure.
Would I get a sufficient amount of line on the reel with a 30lb test braided line?
Answer: You will. I’ve used 65lb braid on my flippin stick and it’s fine.
Answer: No
Product reviews of Piscifun Spark Baitcasting Fishing Reel Super Compact, 16.5 LB Carbon Fiber Drag, Magnetic Brake System Low Profile Baitcaster Reel
GG : Right on the line of cheap and good
I had low expectations for this off-brand reel, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised overall. The tension knob and the brake control feel cheap, with a lot of play in them, but otherwise it feels solid where it matters - the gearing, the drag, and casting. One other cost saving measure was the ceramic insert in the line guide. Instead of standing proud of its housing on either side, it actually sits inside. I was initially concerned that the line would rub the housing, but thankfully it doesn’t.
It’s very lightweight, with essentially everything but the gearing made from composites/plastic. The thumb bar takes more effort than I would like to depress, but it locks back nicely with just the slightest movement of the handle. Anti-reverse, like most reels these days, is excellent, with little to no reverse movement when setting the hook. Drag is also very good, with smooth adjustment and solid and consistent tension.
It casts a mile, with the spool spinning very freely. The spool is also composite, making it light as a feather, so there is very little inertia to overcome. Gear ratio is very fast at 8.1:1, pulling in about three feet of line per turn of the handle.
One thing to note: it is not clear from the product listing, but this is considered by the manufacturer to be a BFS (bait finesse system) reel. BFS reels are generally intended to be used for lighter lures and lines, and the spool on this reel bears that out - it is the smallest in terms of capacity that I’ve ever seen. I generally use 30lb braid because I fish small lakes and ponds with lots of cover, and I had to step down to 18lb. It does hold plenty of 18lb thankfully. That said, this is not a suitable reel for heavy pitching and flipping rods.
Ultimately, for $40, it’s a decent reel, but the loose tolerances on the tension knob and brake control would make me look elsewhere. Specifically, I’d spend the extra $10 to $20 and buy the Abu Garcia Black Max or Silver Max.
PS Shaw : Awesome.
Great reel. Easy to tune, super smooth, casts great! Well built and light weight. Prefer this to the torrent by far.
jspicer : Great reel
Great real and value for the money! Bought for mother in law, she has caught a lot of 3 pound peacock and a few 5 pound catfish handles the fish very well
Lina Jacobson : So far this is a good one!
Its a great Baitcasting reel, specially for the price, it tangles sonetimes we think is while we get uses to it. Hopedully will last a long time. If it does I will update the review, ao far we had it for 3 weeks
L Hatfield : Great reel!
What a great reel! I can't believe the quality of this fine piece of machinery. I absolutely love the look and feel of this reel. I highly recommend you try the reel and see for yourself.
clinton-dale bevers : Great really at this price point.
This is one of the best reels for the money. I own 3 now and will buy more in the future. Solid feeling, tiny in your hand, comfortable and rarely does it backlash. Great reel.
Amazon Customer : Not bad
Good reel so far easy to clean
John Valerio : Great finesse reel
Light weight and works flawlessly. Almost as good as my Curado. I purchased this and put it on a dobyns rod for senkos. Caught alot of bass with that setup.
Josh Harris : So far so good
Only got to use it one time so far but it cast nice and is smooth on the retrieve. Time will tell but it does what I need it to.
jim : Great reel
Great reel
Amazon Customer : extremely impressed
This company has a bright future! this reel i would say is around the 150$ mark when it comes to smoothness and quality
Joshua : I’m impressed.
I’m actually impressed. For the price this little reel casts way better than its competitors and also out preforms my lews reels.
tom : Good for the price
No problems yet.. works excellent. One hell of a deal for the price to be honest
Amazon Customer : I'm thinking plastic gear somewhere let go
I use this reel for 1 day all day. It's light and cast great. The only thing that was disappointing on mine, was the spool release after awhile wouldn't engage and handle would free spin.
April D. : Can't beat Piscifun quality or price
Love my Piscifun Spark 8:1:1, I have both the 8:1:1 and the 6:6:1as well as the torrent 7:1:1, they are awesome, you can beat the quality you get from Piscifun. The first picture is my spark 8:1:1 and my torrent rigged up for a tournament, and the second is the bass I caught on my 6:6:1 while visiting family
Steven Mull : Great casting reel with good gripped handles
I can cast this reel without holding onto the spool. The handles are perfect for casting out rattles and swim baits. I made a small video of me casting with nothing on the spool. I will be using smaller line to slay the bass here in ohio!
Jaimon Bailey : Great bang for your buck
First off great reel for the price. I had an old shimano bait caster that broke so decided to try this new set up out (on Berkley lightening rod) and its great. Getting back into using a bait caster as I've been using spin casters as of late and this reel casts smooth and feels good in the hand. Had the breaks dialed in within a few casts and only had one small bird nest within the process afterwards it was smooth to use and no more bird nest. All in all id buy another.
Gary Lockie : Compact and effective Baitcaster
Came on time ,good quality materials ,smooth performance ,need to get out on the lake or river ,and enjoy casting it - Gary
Josh : Very Impressed!
I am fairly new to the baitcaster world, but Piscifun has been on my radar for a while now. This reel came in today and I immediately put it on a 7’ rod I had on hand. Rod and reel in hand, I went out to my pond and started casting and getting the reel dialed in. Roughly 50 casts later, I’m sailing my bait nearly across the entire pond, without a single backlash I might add. I am very impressed with the performance of this reel, especially for the value. I already have my next Piscifun reel on the way!

Great reel. Easy to tune, super smooth, casts great! Well built and light weight. Prefer this to the torrent by far.
S. Rivera : Not recommended. Junk baitcasting reel.
Update: I had to take off four stars from my original rating. I was very disappointed when the side plate fell apart at the middle of a day of fishing. When I opened the side plate I noticed that the part that holds the magnets came off and was dragging on the side flange of the spool. This made the reel useless. I had to throw it in my tackle bag and grab my trusted AbuGarcia Revo SX. This reel did not get used that often because it was used for specific applications, like bank fishing with a shorter rod when there are too many overhanging tree branches or when using lighter lures. I guess I fell for all the hype about Piscifun reels being great. I am not going to change the text of my old review so that people can see how happy I was when I first got this reel. I guess it's true what they say, "you get what you pay for ". Unlike my original review, DON'T gettchaself one. Get a Shimano Curado K instead. That is the reel that outshines all others.
Old review: This is a great baitcasting reel. All the components work well. I just got it and have been using it for hours. It casts for miles and retrieves smoothly. It is compact, just not as lightweight as others in my collection. Initially, I was able to get a good amount of 30lb braided fishing line on the spool. Enough to cast as far as I need it. I wish the thumb bar was not plastic but for the cost you can't get any better. Other components, like the drag star are also plastic but with all that, it is still a great baitcasting reel because it performs much better than some of my expensive high end reels. When I say "performs ", I mean castability and retrieve. It does both beautifully. Of course, you will need to clean and lubricate the reel every so often to keep it running smoothly. If you do, the reel should last you many fishing seasons. Also, don't throw it or bang it around stuff because it feels fragile. That does not mean it's a bad reel, just made of more delicate materials. All in all, I have quickly become a Piscifun fan. They make excellent affordable fishing gear. I highly recommend this reel and others in their line. Update: Bought another one of these because the last one was such a great performing reel. This time I have Runcl 15lb braided fishing line and a 4 foot P Line 6lb fluorocarbon leader for more finesse type fishing and fluke fishing. I paired it with a 7'-0" Berkeley Cherrywood HD Medium fast rod, & it is a killer combination. I am quickly building a Piscifun reel collection along side my Shimano and AbuGarcia reels. I think Piscifun will become the standard of excellence in baitcasting reels in the near future. So!! Gettchaself one!! or two!! or three!!
Josh Harris : So far so good
Only got to use it one time so far but it cast nice and is smooth on the retrieve. Time will tell but it does what I need it to.
Paul : Great reel for the price! I will be using the spark in my lineup
I have not used it on the water yet but my first impressions are awesome! took it outside and casted a few times and it worked great! Love how smooth the reel is can’t wait to bring it out on the water . I’m impressed! Just in my first impressions I will be trying out. More of piscifuns reels in the near future! I will give an update once I do try it out in the water! Thanks piscifun. Thanks Crystal!
Daryl Hockin : nice reel
anyone just getting into bait casters or looking for a replacement one this is it spooled it up with 12lb mono 6ft6in rod used 1/8 and 1/2 oz jigs was down to the river casting for about 3 hours dialed it in and was off to the races was out casting a guy with a spinning rod for distance if your on a budget and don't want to break the bank this is the reel and i matched it up to a 6ft 6in medium rod rod was under 60 bucks no birds nests but murphys law is always there.
jim : Great reel
Great reel
J-Rod : Gears started grinding
Caught about eight fish before the gears started grinding. Wanted to exchange it to see if it was a bad unit but they only would do a repair.
Tony : Quality baitcaster with BFS spool.
I found Spark to be a quality reel. I comes with a shallow spool for BFS. When properly tuned. You will not get bird cages. This goes for all baitcaster. Set the tension first. To match the weight of the lure. Set the magnets next to stop the spool at the end of the cast. This prevents the spool from throwing ling at the end of the cast. The lure will drop in the water and the magnets stop the spool. The last thing is set the drag. Do not over tension the drag. You do not want it cutting into the line on the spool. Be patience when setting. Missed tuned reels will make any reel look bad. In the photo the spark is on the bottom. It is matched to a Bass Pro Power Plus Graphite 5' lite action rod. I fish mainly for trout in the Iowa Driftless. Those spincast are all Zebco 33 micro's. My wire swears by them on Shakespeare micro series rods. I 3D printed the hangers and reel holders.
Joshua : I’m impressed.
I’m actually impressed. For the price this little reel casts way better than its competitors and also out preforms my lews reels.
Amazon Customer : Not bad
Good reel so far easy to clean
patrick ponsioen : Great little reel.
Smooth action little bait caster. Seems to be alright so far.
Amazon Customer : I'm thinking plastic gear somewhere let go
I use this reel for 1 day all day. It's light and cast great. The only thing that was disappointing on mine, was the spool release after awhile wouldn't engage and handle would free spin.
Patrick Erschen : Good buy
This is not a bad reel at all, I have it on a daiwa Fuego 7'3" heavy, i use it for frogging and this reel has seen some serious abuse this season, lot of bass and a few pike, I fish 3 to 4 days a week and I'm pleased with it.
PS Shaw : Awesome.
Great reel. Easy to tune, super smooth, casts great! Well built and light weight. Prefer this to the torrent by far.
Kurtis : Caught two fish first time I used it
Caught two fish first time I used it
Jonathan : Good value
This reel was able to handle a 15-20 pound koho salmon, not too bad the only thing I would say is the bearing are a bit lower quality because I fell and the reel got wet and it started squeaking the day after
Dean neufeld : Looks great
Looks great but I haven't used it yet. Very excited to spool it up and check out the performance. Here and now, it feels solid and looks sharp.
Lina Jacobson : So far this is a good one!
Its a great Baitcasting reel, specially for the price, it tangles sonetimes we think is while we get uses to it. Hopedully will last a long time. If it does I will update the review, ao far we had it for 3 weeks
Stacy Anderson : Great value
Holds up really well, quality reel
