By sending it back you are giving the company a chance to examine and correct any problem if there is one. It could be just a manufacturing glitch that all manufacturing companies face. Answer: I purchased a Kufa, 8 foot 6in, im8 graphite trolling rod. This is a medium heavy rod and the eight foot six lengths makes it easier to handle in a boat. If you're trolling you pretty much need to be in a boat. This trolling rod is made for salmon and other heavy fighting fish. Good luck.

Answer: These reels are more for boat fishing, of you read the write up these are trolling reels, but if you want to use for surf fishing look for a Ande or Ugly Stick, or go to Wal-Mart. Also Amazon has a good selection.

First off these are fair sized reels, note the 12 oz soda can under the reel handle in the pic. Should be good for halibut. They Hold roughly 250 yards of 60 lb mono. I am satisfied with the overall quality externally, line guide is tuned and the line goes onto the reel level not piled up on one side. I bought 2 of these and they both spooled perfectly when I put line on them. I have not used them yet, if they turn out to be like my fist ex-wife, nice on the outside not so nice on the inside, I will update this. I was quite skeptical at the price for a reel this size, so far they seem legitimate.

Smooth quiet, and well built best describes the salt water reel. So good I got a 3000 too! As smooth as any big game salt water heavy fish I have and that includes Ambassadeur, Shimano, and Penn. Its a well built and sturdy reel that can catch the toughest shark or bill fish. The only draw-back is the weight. Its a bit heavy, but I still give it a high recommendation. It proved impossible to thread line from the spool through the level wind eye, not enough room. I had to thread mono through from the front, tie it to my spooled line then pull it back through. This is a design flaw that really should be corrected. I do like the reel though. Tried actual fishing! Perfect operation and casts a country mile on a 7.5 foot cat fish rod.

I contacted for a exchange and had my new reel the next day. Might try and find brass replacement gears for the ones that are plastic(only 2 of them) and do a little upgrade. Overall I’m really impressed by the price and how well the reel worked! I landed my first shark with this reel! The 4ft per turn of the handle really helped me get the shark in pretty quick! Took off a star because of the plastic gears. They should offer a upgrade kit with those same gears made out of brass.

Mounted this reel on a new rod added it to my trolling spread, and went fishing in the Keys. Clicker worked normally for about a half hour and then failed 100%. Seemed like little parts were shed into the reels gears, and it stuck solid a couple of times as one cranked in the line. After a few times jamming, the reel seemed to work again, but the clicker never came back to functionality. Worthless as a trolling reel, with no clicker. Had to go back to an old Penn 309. 30 years old Penn and that clicker still worked!
Other than that fatal failure, I liked the reels design and the drag worked as it should have. I am past the return date because the fishing trip was for a couple of weeks. Wish I had purchased a different reel.
