Answer: don't remember. ordered it for a trip. made sure I had plenty of time to receive it.

does this have a welded loop on the line?

Answer: Yes - if you are buying the pre-spoiled reel with the Rio Mainstream fly line, it does have a welded loop which allows easy loop to loop connection between fly line and leader. Hope this answers your question!

New to fly fishing...says it is pre spooled with fly line, does that mean it has backing on it as well? Or would I have to rig it myself?

Answer: That is correct. The prespooled option comes spooled up with backing as well as a Rio Mainstream Fly Line.

Answer: The line comes already spooled (backing included). You’ll need to add tippet eventually. But it’s pretty much plug and play. It’s like green backing, so if you don’t want that color you’ll have to do it yourself or take it to an outfitter than can do it for you. I also got an 8ft Eagle Claw rod. It’s like $30 (on amazon) and it’s fiber glass so it’s not as breakable which is important for beginners!

Answer: This is an interesting question, I say this because this reel has an adjustable drag that allow you to tighten it to any drag level you desire. You could probable turn it up until a hooked fish would be unable to take out any line. The drag is infinitely adjustable and you should be able to tighten it to your desired level very easily.

Answer: Yes, You could use this reel in Saltwater. You would want to rinse and clean it after each use to maintain the performance of the reel.
