What is its line capacity, gear ratio?

Answer: 6.2:1 Gear Ratio, not sure the capacity off the top of my head but its quite substantial from my memory of using it.

Can the 40 be set up for both left or right handed retrieving?

Answer: Yep very easy swapping from left handed to right handed just a simple loosening of screw and then flipping to the other side and tightening in on that one.

Hi. Can I use this reel (40) for saltwater fishing and mangrove fishing, mainly for snook, tarpon and redfish??

Answer: I have used this reel with 30lb test braid for the last 6 months. It is my main reel, great price and great performance. I have pulled in numerous bull reds and 25 to 35 inch black drum...it even has a 42 inch crevalle and 4 foot bullshark under its belt. (both incidental hookups and successfully landed on the boat)

Answer: yes I have 2 I've used about year on trout redfish tarpon and amberjacks. BUT IT IS NOT MY FAVORITE LOT MAINTS .

Answer: I am using this for trout fishing with an ultra light weight 5 1/2 foot rod. I would not try it in salt water.

Answer: I don't remember but their website has the exact model number for 12 to 15 lb line and how many yards it will hold.

Answer: I have a 40 and I've used 15lb mono and 20lb braid and it works great.

Can you use 80 lb braid and is it a good reel for salmon and steel head

Answer: No idea why you would need 80lb braid. I’ve caught plenty of steelhead with this reel with 12lb test with 10lb leader

Answer: My husband says no drag is not good and 80 lb is a lot

How does it do on large fish and the drag system with running the drag?

Answer: Drag is very quiet but works fantastic. I bought this for my steelhead and walleye setup and works awesome.

This is the second President XT that I've bought. I use it for inshore saltwater fishing, and it has never let me down! I spool it with 30 pound power pro and catch snook and redfish in the 20 pound class with ease, and huge jacks from time to time, and it has is still as smooth as the day I bought it. Great reel for well under a hundred bucks!

Love the presidential series of these reels, was excited about the xt, but on a salmon trip the bail does not alway stay open on the cast, it trips ahead of time. I make many repetitive casts with spinners and it was a problem. Also feel a small click/ hard spot on the retrieval.
