Which is the best rod to pair with this reel for bottom fishing for grouper

Answer: It would depend if they are a typical or a goliath grouper. Good size groupers deserve a rod with a lot of backbone, and very strong tip with sensitivity, like the Phenix Black Diamond Hybrid, rating of 40-100 or 30-80 rated rod. The Seekers are great for big fish, as well as the United Composites, perhaps the platinum or Invictus models. If you are a Shimano Fan, the Terez 72XXH model should do the job! Answer: This is just a matter of preference. I however what a fiblink. Medium to heavy 30 -50 pound rod From Amazon which seems to pair up with the real very nicely.

Answer: It comes with the standard shimano screws and clamp kit. Will fit most rods, might need a tiburon clamp for a 9-10 ft rod.

Answer: Very disappointed with the speed Master my first fish was lost due to the lack of drag no way it has 40lbs of drag I did return it !

Is your handle wobbly? Mine has a handle with some wobble and I am worried what would happen to it with a lot of pressure. Is this normal?

Answer: I have a 16 and a 12, I don’t have any “wobble” in the handles.

The handle seems a bit wobbly, does anyone else have this issue? Just worried how it will do under a lot of pressure.

Answer: There seems be tension on the handle when you turn it but worked perfectly on its first encounter with a 20lb. Yellowtail. Now the real test, Tuna!

Could i put 80lb test line on this reel

Answer: It depends if the line is mono or braided. Straight 80lb. mono I would not advise. 80lb. mono line is too thick for the reel, so you can't load much line on the spool and you'll overload the drag washers. If you use straight mono, load the reel with the recommended line weight. What I like about the reel...it's designed to hold braid with a mono top shot. On my SpeedMaster I have 80lb. braid (maximum braid weight) about 350 yards or so with a 40lb. to 50lb. mono or florocarbon top shot to finish the spool. It all depends on the fish I'm targeting. Answer: If you have the speedmaster 16ii, you'll want to use 80lb power pro. Thats what I put on my 16ii speedmaster. So yes

Answer: Probably overkill for surf or pier.

Answer: No, it is for bottom fishing. Grouper, snapper, etc.

Can this reel cast live bait?

Answer: As it is a conventional reel it is more difficult to cast live bait unless someone is intermediate to expert level, but if they are then it should be no problem. If a beginner is casting live bait a spinning reel is more recommended.

Not happy at all. Got the Speedmaster 16ii. Good fast service but the box had been opened and the reel is really hard to reel. Definitely not near as smooth as original speedmaster reels. I think I got one that was returned.
