Answer: Remove the reel spool and on the spool is a wire keeper remove the keeper

this is a quality machined aluminum reel that for species like bass and trout where a drag isn't critical, it is an amazing buy. handsome looking and the tolerances were also very tight and as good as other reels in the $350 range.

A. Reith : So much to like, but...

This reel looks beautiful, is light and has very good machining. The main thing I didn't like is the range of drag adjustment. It goes from nothing to lock down with just a couple of ticks. This would be a problem if you had something big like steelhead or salmon (forget taking one of these into saltwater) hooked up and needed to make an adjustment on the drag tension. One extra tick and snap!

I should add that a small machined post fell out of the reel when I first took the spool off. These spacers are usually in the drag mechanism itself which is enclosed on this reel. Not very confidence building.

I can imagine that this fishes OK for the money, but even at these low prices there are better options out there.

I never give bad reviews so here goes the first one. I am not afraid of the cheeper Chinese fly fishing rods/reels. I fish 2-3 times a week stuff get banged up, it's easier to replace a $50 rod/reel than a $1000 dollars one. Most of the time I am blown away at the quality of the cheaper equipment, maxcatch, pacfun, ect. even compared to my expensive rods/reels. However this reel is not good, machining poor quality it will not seat properly in any of my rods. The drag does not work at all, screwed down flush it may have 5-10lbs my other will literally break the fly line. Also there is no drag adjustment from freespool to full drag.
