Product reviews of Quantum Optix Spinning Fishing Reel, 4 Bearings (3 + Clutch), Anti-Reverse with Smooth, Precisely-Aligned Gears, Previous Model
A. Bennett : Quantum Optix 80
Item arrived quickly and was just what husband wanted. Reel is smaller than expected but still good for price I paid.
Thomas Beebe : Good for unexpected salmon!
Size 20: Awesome, reliable reel. Caught a 12 pound Chinook running up the river a few fall's ago and this reel was perfect, even with a 6lb mainline. Boy was I surprised to see a salmon (first ever) on the end of the line!
alvaro p. : Do not recommend
reel keeps making a clicking noise. I have made adjustments with no luck. No longer will use this reel. Going back to Abu.
wm St.pete : Simple good and reliable
I've bought a few of these they really hold up
RyanGarrott : Best "bang for your buck" reel
Between my Grandma Grandma and myself we have 5 of these reels, all size 60 for surf fishing.
We normally catch small and medium bluefish and red drum or puppy drum. Each reel has lasted at least 2 seasons with moderate to light year round use. Both of my grandparents participate in surf fishing tournaments in the Outer Banks, NC about 4 to 5 surf fishing tournament ts per year 2 to 3 days each.
We always rinse the reel with freshwater when we get done fishing for the day.
The only reel that has had a hiccup is the one that was dragged through the sand when a 23 inch red drum pulled grandma's sand spike over and took off towards the ocean. The reel still held up to bring the fish in.
To buy a better reel about the same size you'd have to spend at least $60. The only reels I buy are these and $100+ Penn Battle reels.
mikey_b : Great value
The reel in my opinion has a good price piont and value, I have several 60 models and they never quit working and if they do I'll just buy another reel.
Gary F. : One Star
Handles fall off and zebco website tells you there no replacements available. ...same for 60's
Mike : Great Reel for the price.
I bought this reel for my young son to put on his ugly stick. Works great for the cost and does what it needs to do.
JJ : No Brainer!
Quantum reels are the most common around my house. Great cost. Good quality. Worth every penny.
boknows : Not bad for a backup especially for the price
Feels cheap and plasticky. A bit bulky and handle has a long throw. Not bad for a backup especially for the price.
Matthew : This bih fire ????
Heeeeeeeeeeee
Ghost : Good Starter Reel
I bought the size 60 for my wife so she could come catfishing with me at our local lake. This is not gonna stand up to a trophy sized blue, but this is good for any size channel cat. My wife enjoyed it immensely and I liked it quite a bit the few times I borrowed it. There's nothing to complain about. It's a good starter reel for spinning catfish setups. Mine is on a 7' MH Shakespeare Wildcat and it is definitely more than enough, probably too much, for our local 1-5# channels.

Wayne M. : Sweet
Nice
Paul : Good reel
I bought one of the Optix size 10 reels over a year ago. I use it to catch crappie/bream. I go fishing once per week on average. This has been my most used reel since I bought it. It has landed hundreds of filet size crappie. It's also landed a 10 lb catfish and a 10 lb drum that were caught while crappie fishing. It is still going strong with no problems. I can't speak to the larger models that people might use for larger species (like bass or catfish). But I can say that the Optix size 10 is a very good crappie/bream reel that I would recommend to anyone. In fact, I recently purchased two more of these as I'm expanding my fishing arsenal.
Cons: none yet
Pros: smooth retrieve durable easy to set drag easy to change between left and right hand retrieve
Todd Stanford : Not bad for the price
Light weight strong works great with 4lb test
Heri : It is not anti-reverse. Not smooth
Reel goes backwards before it locks. This is not anti-reverse. Instructions indicate that there is a switch to activate the anti-reverse option on the bottom of the reel. There is no switch anywhere on this reel! Not smooth at all; you can hear grinding. This issues are demonstrated in the video. Pictures are to show there is no switch. This are the two things I was looking for to be true; disappointed but not shocked; based on price.
Snydly : I’ve bought more...seem like great value.
I bought two Optix 60’s last year when I wanted a few cheap spare Chesapeake striper setups for guests. They worked great for hard fighting 10-15lbers and went on new ugly sticks to become my choice rods. I rinse them down after saltwater use and they still perform and look like new. No issues with the drags or anti reverse like some older model reviews.
Ean : Great product
Built solid, great quality for the price! I got this to go with a 15 foot surf rod... Looks a little small for it, but it is a great match for function!

Amazon Customer : I do rinse them off in fresh water after each use but they are operating like new after a few years
I have 5 Optix spinning reels (1 20, 2 60, 2 80) I use regularly in salt water on the Texas Coast. I do rinse them off in fresh water after each use but they are operating like new after a few years. I have never had to tear them down and grease the bearings or replace a gear. I originally bought them because they were inexpensive and I usually go through reels every few years in the salt environment. The action is smooth, the bail release is smooth, the bearings must be well sealed, and the drag is easy to manipulate with a fish on. This is a well made reel for a inexpensive cost. This site doesn't address size though - 10&20 for ultralite use, 40 for bass, 60 pike/muskee or reds, 80 for surf fishing. The 80 is a big reel that I keep 40lb test on. I love these reels. Would recommend.
Grant R. : I feel like they are money well spent
Bought several 10s and 20s for all my crappie setups. Reels are simple, no fuss, instant anti-reverse, and are balanced well. Sure the aren't 10 bearing unit smooth, but they are more than ample and have held up well through 2 seasons of HARD crappie fishing. At $25 a pop, I feel like they are money well spent.

katrina billings : Good reel wish it was a little smoother when reeling ...
Good reel wish it was a little smoother when reeling but good backpacking reel light but not so light it feels cheep would recommend for first timer or if your just a week end fishing kind of guy or girl
Snydly : I’ve bought more...seem like great value.

Josh Yeager : Smooth cast, smooth reel
This is my 3rd Optix 60. I have purchased 1 from our local big box store, a second from Amazon, and the 3rd from Amazon. This reel drastically improved my cheap rod I had been knocking around the lakes for catfish. It provided a much smoother cast, and reel than what was previously on the fishing rod. The reel made that much of a difference, I had to buy the second to install on another rod, replacing another worn out reel.
The third reel is intended for a recently purchased pink fishing rod, hopefully allowing me to get my original rod and reel away from the wife. Knowing the wife, I expect she will just have two rods and reels by the end of this.
Pablo Oses : Great reel
Great reel, i have in different sizes and work great everytime. Remember to grease it after first use.
Paul : Decent economical reel
Smaller than I thought it would be. Began to show signs of wear after a few weeks.
dewy 59 : Quatum 80
This reel is super smooth while you are casting out your bait and reeling in a big fish .This reel has 4 ball bearings which makes it a durable and smooth reel.A friend of mine owns 4 of the 60 series reels loves them.
Tom : One Thing To Keep In Mind...
I bought this in Size 10 to use 4# line on my light rod. I don't have any experience bringing in a fish with it yet but it casts and retrieves lures very well.
Although I'm not going to return it there is one feature I really don't like (hence the 3 stars). I expected when the bail lock is on that the bail would stop in the casting position like my other open-face spinning reels. It does not. Wherever you stop cranking is where it stops. That means when I use it locked I have to watch carefully where I stop it to position for the next cast. If I'd realized this I wouldn't have bought it.
Still, it's a nice little reel that should be good for many years.
Amazon Customer : good middle of the pack reel
not a bad reel for the price. decent weight. and pretty smooth with the 3 ball bearings. only thing i would change is the drag strength. it in the middle of the pack with that component. all i all really good real for the price
David : Its great
I bought this to replace my old reel that was falling apart. Didn't expect great things for the low price point, but boy was I surprised! Loaded up with 6lb line this thing is smooth. Feels pretty well built also. I would definitely buy it again.

Hammer : Built To Last
I love this reel. Works great for walleye and catfish. I have a Quantum XR-1 that is 19 years old and still going strong. I wouldn't be surprised if this one lasts as long.
Kenneth LeBlanc : Best Bang for the Price.
My wife needed a new reel, so I did some research and came across this item. Installed it on her new 7’ ugly stick and she loves it to death. The smoothness of operation and the long offset handle makes it easier for her to land the “big ones”.
Amazon Customer : Great reel for the price
The reel is incredible. I bought it for my dad and it is super smooth and works incredible. Definitely get it. If you want a bass reel get the 20-30 size and compared to a Shimano size ten is a little larger than the Shimano 1000 and so on.
Amazon Customer : Great Reel
Have used this reel for the last 5 years both for ice and open water fishing. Ordered this one to keep from having to switch back abd forth.
