Can this be mounted on a panfish pole that doesn't have a reel seat?

Answer: It could be taped or ziptied on.

Does it say on the reel the range of lb test it will handle?

Answer: No

Does this come with line?

Answer: Yes. I can't comment on the quality as I replaced it with my favorite line.

Answer: Yes - not exactly sure what the pound test is. Looks like around 6 lb.

How do you switch this reel from right to left handed retrieve?

Answer: Unscrew the small plastic nut on the side and remove the whole spool. On the inside of the spool you will see a small plastic nut, (looks like it's bonded to the inner side but it's not) unscrew that. Once you've got that off, use a pick or small screwdriver to remove the plastic spacer/washer. Hold the spool in your hand and lightly tap in on a table and the one way bearing will come out, flip it over and put it back in the opposite way. Put the spacer back on and screw the plastic nut back on. Put the spool back on and you're done, this will take about five minutes from start to finish.

Answer: Yes it can. It isn't simple, but it can be swtiched

How do you switch the reel from right hand retrieve to left. Didn’t get any instructions with my reel.

Answer: go to www.lews.com/service and scroll down to Mr. Crappie. Click on the link under 2014 Mr. Crappie Solo Reel. Not very clear pictures but it does explain how to switch retrieves.

Answer: Mine came left handed so I didn't have to switch it. But I would guess a simple phillips screwdriver to start with.

Does tightening the drag also affect the rotation of the reel handle? Will the handle still spin freely or feel tighter?

Answer: No

I can't unscrew the large round nut. Is it reverse threaded?

Answer: No it is not . It’s the drag !

Does it have an anti-reverse bearing and is it quite on retrieve or does it make a clicking sound?

Answer: This reel sucks! You’ll spend more time pulling line out of the gaps in the reel than fishing. I’m not sure what’s better but this is not it

Does this reel free spool?

Answer: If free spool meaning you hit a button and the lure free falls, no. You have to loosen the drag knob, pull line out, and then manually tighten it back. Unless you were using a lot of weight to let it pull out on its own, it might, but I only use mine for ice fishing small tungsten lures.

How well does this reel cast or is it more for drop jigging

Answer: This reel is not really disigned or intended for casting. It is meant for drop jigging...most likely one would use it while fishing for crappie or bluegill. You would mount it on a long rod that you could simply reach the rod to the desired fishing zone & drop the jig straight down. The angler would postion his boat tight to the intended fishing location

Is this castable?

Answer: No it is not. This reel is similar to a fly rod reel. It’s main function is to hold line for a jig pole. It could be used to reel in a fish but it would retrieve the line very slowly compared to spinning or bait casting reels. It works well on a jig pole. The jig pole alone does the “casting” by swinging the bait out and dropping it in tight places such as stumps, fallen trees etc.

Answer: Even with the drag loosened all the way, you'd still need some decent weight to "cast" it. I've never tried that, but I strictly use mine for ice fishing.

Exactly how do you fish with this reel? As in fly fishing or can you cast with this reel.

Answer: This reel is not designed for casting. It is really meant for ice fishing. You manually pull the line from the reel to lower the lure/bait. I bought this reel because with the light line I use, I did not want any of the line twist that you get with a spinning reel.

Answer: You use a crappie rod 12'to 16' feet long and underhand flip your bait were you want. I use mine from boat and fish along the bank near stumps, under trees, boat docks etc

Answer: Not a caster.

How strong is the line?

Answer: 4lbs, holds up pretty good. Pulled a nice size catfish on a Mr. Crappie stick using that and this reel. Caught some nice size Crappie too.

I bought the reel for fishing off the docks in salt water. We fish with light line so I did not want a spinning reel because of the line twist. This reel works really well for me. The only issue is there was no instructions explaining how to convert from a left hand wind to a right hand wind. Had to dismantle the reel to figure it out. One other consideration is that this is like a fly reel, each turn of the handle does not bring in a lot of line. I personally like the direct drive because you can fish with a light drag but still control the amount of pressure when reeling in a fish
