FEATURES

MICROMODULE The Micro Module Gear System creates a smooth retrieve. The new gear set makes use of smaller teeth and more of them. This means that there are more contact points between the drive gear and pinion gear. The result is a more efficient gear train with less gear feel. | X-SHIP X-Ship provides improved gear durability. By supporting the pinion gear on both ends with bearings, the pinion gear maintains precise alignment with the drive gear. This means the gears will stay in the same position under the heaviest loads. The added benefit is that friction between the spool shaft and gear are eliminated. This will enhance the casting performance of the reel with lighter lures, and allow for longer casts. | HAGANE The HAGANE Body is a metal reel body with high rigidity. The body stiffness and impact resistance virtually eliminates body flexing. The result transforms the angler's actions directly into cranking power. It's efficiency through strength. |
| | |
CI4+ CI4+ is the ultimate in lightweight technology. | I-DC4 Intelligent Digital Control braking system with an easy to use, 4 setting, externally adjustable brake dial. This will allow anglers to fish a wide variety of lures, in any conditions, with minimal adjustment to the reel. | CROSS CARBON DRAG This drag material provides a wider range of drag settings, along with the smoothest Shimano drag performance ever. |

Questions about Shimano CURADO DC, LowProfile Baitcasting Freshwater Fishing Reel
Q:
Does this one make the noise when thrown???? Like a whislte almost....
Answer: Mine says "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" every time I make a cast.
Answer: Yes that noise is the digital breaks working.
Answer: really didn't hear anything unusual...great reel.
Answer: Mmm, thats strange! Mine goes "WeeeooooWeeeeooooweeeeeeeeehioooooooo"
Answer: Yes
Q:
What is the gear ratio
Answer: 150-6.2:1
Answer: The 150/1 is 6.2:1, the 150/1HG is 7.4:1, the 150/1XG is 8.5:1
Answer: 8.1
Q:
Will this reel work with abu garcia vendetta rod?
Answer: It will work with just about any brand casting rod.
Answer: DO NOT us it on a HEAVY rod, it's drag is to lite!!!!!
Answer: If it's a baitcaster rod....yes
Answer: I use a shimano rod, friends use Waterloo and other high end casting rods with no problems
Answer: If it is a baitcast rod yes.
Answer: Yes it will long as its a bait caster rod not spinning
Q:
can you use Fluorocarbon on it?
Answer: Yes. Fluorocarbon is more technique specific. (Jerk, crankbaits etc..) not reel specific.
Answer: Absolutely! It has a setting just for fluorocarbon that makes bird's nests a thing of the past.
Answer: Yes, you can use anything you can use on any other reel. mono, floro, or braided. Great reel. All the hype about it is true.
Answer: Yes, I only used flouro on my DCs. Seaguar red label and Invisx and have had no issues.
Answer: yes, I have fluro spooled up on mine, works great
Answer: Yes sir, I would recommend using some reel magic or line conditioner for best results.
Q:
made in?
Answer: I just received my 151XG. It is made in Malaysia.
Answer: Made overseas.
Answer: Made in Japan. But I know you still will say it is made in China.
Q:
What is the color of this reel is it light grey or light black ?
Answer: Light grey
Answer: Light gray
Answer: Like flat black
Answer: Dark silver
Answer: Dark metallic green
Answer: Metallic gray!!!
Answer: It appears gray to me.
Q:
does it need battery or any power source?
Answer: I don't own one, but by looking at the pics above with the coils and magnets. The process of casting and reeling would charge internal battery storage(or however they are storing the charge) to power the microchip and the microchip is controlling the spool using the magnets and coils to stop backlash!
Answer: No power source is needed, I believe the revolutions from casting power the microchip, similar to a windmill
Answer: No battery required.
Answer: No. It works off friction.
Answer: No
Q:
Is this a saltwater rated reel? if not what is a better shimano choice baitcaster for saltwater use? i see nowhere on the shimano website about this.
Answer: Have seen this (on the Internet, so you know it must be true!) reel described as a freshwater reel; no mention of saltwater durability.
Answer: I doubt I’m telling you anything you don’t already know. Saltwater will destroy any reel. However it can’t destroy a reel that is oiled before the trip, cleaned after the trip and then re oiled. The curado is easy to clean inside
Answer: Basically for fresh water but if you use in salt I would rinse it with fresh water after every use
Q:
Which is better out of the 64.1 74.1 84.1
Answer: The cast control is the same for all 3 gear ratios, so you have to decide what application you will use it for. If I was not sure, I would go with the 7.4:1.
Answer: 7:4:1
Q:
Does this bnb one make the noise when thrown???? Like a whislte almost....
Answer: Not sure what bnb is but the dc does have the chip an does whistle
Answer: Yes, when cast properly it makes that well known DC sound.
Answer: Yes it does. I only bought this reel to show it off whenever I’m fishing around people, lol. The sound of it is sooo relaxing and awesome. You’ll definitely get compliments!
Answer: Sure does.
Answer: Yes. I love it
Answer: Yes, it is the digitally controlled centrifugal motion actuated computer braking system that I believe you are hearing.
Answer: Yes it does, it has a chip inside it hence the DC
Answer: Yes
Q:
What are all of the shimano I reels that make the awesome sound?
Answer: Those are the DC ones. They have a chip inside and it makes a cool sound.
Answer: Any DC reel
Q:
I'm looking for an all around reel for bass fishing. I don't have a lot of equipment. What's the best model for all around fishing?
Answer: This is your best choice for all around bass fishing be sure to specify left hand retrieve or right hand retrieve.
Q:
If you accidentally drop this reel in the water, will it effect the electronics (I am assuming electronics are involved with the DC)?
Answer: No it will not impact the reel in any way.
Answer: Mine has been rained on, and nothing happened so it should be able to withstand a little more water, plus I mean the line is wet too so it should be fine.
Q:
If I reek with me left hand is it the left hand right hand reel next question wWhich of the three Rios is better the 641with is the better of the 3
Answer: If you write left handed you need a left handed reel.
Answer: I would choose the left hand model 151 but I bought the 7.4.1 ratio reel and love it
Q:
What's the gear ratio?
Answer: The one I purchased, the 151, has a 6.2:1 ratio
Answer: My DC150 has a 6.2:1
Q:
How nany yards of 30lb braid can it hold
Answer: 135 yards
Answer: 125 yards
Q:
What is the Maximum Drag of this reel and can I use it for saltwater fish.
Answer: Would not suggest for saltwater....way too nice and expensive a reel to subject to saltwater and risk corrosion damage. Look at another shimano saltwater version and drag/line capacity/corrosion resistance will not be an issue
Q:
will this reel work for muskie?
Answer: I personally think NOOOOoo. The drag at 11 pounds is too light. Unless you only want small ones (2 or 3 lbs.)
Answer: It will but I’m thinking a larger size would be better
Answer: I dont know why it wouldn't, seems pretty strong.
Answer: Yes.
Q:
Why left hand is more expensive? This is ridiculous..
Answer: That’s how economies work. Fewer left handed people in the world to consume left handed Rees. Same fixed capital cost to support production. Therefore, to hit target profit margins the left handed reels have to cost more.
Answer: Why
Q:
Is this reel good for catching saltwater striper’s
Answer: Myself, I would not use it in salt water.
Q:
Gear ratio
Answer: Three different ratios, per picture in description of the specs, 6.2:1, 7.4:1, and 8.5:1. It's not really difficult to look at the description and find the answers!
Answer: 6:1
Q:
Hi, do you have a cured trolley for people on the left side?
Answer: yes it would be the 151, anything from shimano ending in a 1 is left hand. thank you.
Q:
Is this real good to catch saltwater stripers
Answer: I can't tell anything specifically about stripers but I took it to Brazil with me and caught 30-40 lbs Tambaqui and Pirarara. We fish for these fish with relatively light tackle (e.g., 40-50# test line, MH rods and 1/2 oz lures). The reel performed well casting farther than any other and the smooth drag was a huge plus to control heavier fish. I think it'll do well for stripers.
Answer: No, freshwater striper possible yes. Not saltwater friendly. If you fish from shore a larger spinning reel would be best. By boat look into a lever drag like a shimano told series
Answer: NO IT HAS A 9LB. DRAG. THE SECOND FISH NI CAUGHT ON IT ,I HAD TOO HAND LINE IT IN. IT WAS A 6LB LARGE MOUTH BASS.
Q:
Does the line guide move left to right when you cast, or does it stay still?
Answer: It only moves when you retrieve your line and lure
Answer: It stays still.
Answer: Stays still I believe.
Answer: stays still
Answer: It stays still
Q:
What size is this reel? i'm trying to buy a case protector. s/m/l???
Answer: It's a low profile reel so small would work.
Answer: Yes
Q:
What’s the difference between the 150 and the 151
Answer: 150 has the retrieve on the right side of the reel, 151 has the reel handle on the left side of the reel, not interchangeable like a spinning reel.
Answer: The 150 is right handed and the 151 is left handed.
Answer: 150 is right hand use and 151 is left hand use
Answer: The 150 is right hand retrieve , 151 is left hand retrieve.
Answer: 150 is right hand version, 151 is left hand version
Answer: I think it's a larger spool. With that you can load on more line, for longer cast and faster retrieve.
Answer: The size of braid to use
Q:
Does it hold enough line on the spool?
Answer: Mine has almost 150 yards of 17lb test. Never come close to getting spooled. (I did have a 30lb carp TRY. )
Answer: It holds a lot of line. I go deep sometimes and it works. BUT watch the drag it is lite weight.
Answer: Yes. I have about 150 yards of 8 lb braid on it. Great reel!
Answer: Yes it does.
Q:
Is there a warranty? Is it brand new in unopened box?
Answer: YES - brand new - under warranty, in the box.
Q:
Do u still get birds nest nomatter what?
Answer: You will still have to adjust the spool brake for the weight of your lure when you change. Practice with your reel and you will get where won’t have many birds nest, occasionally you will get one.
Answer: you can still get birds nests, but I would say thathat they are fewer and smaller. Yes, you can throw a bait without resting your thumb on the line, but if you throw too hard, release your thumb at the wrong time, or hit something with your bait when its moving too fast, it can overspool. One of the nicest features of rhe reel is that you set the left side dial for what ever type of line you are using, then when you change from a light to heavy air, there's no need to adjust the spool.
Answer: Still get birdnest if wrong tune. When you tune it right it is almost no bird nest and cast miles long.
Answer: If you have this reel set right no birds nest at all
Answer: While the Curado DC reels are one of the better backlash managing reels out there, you have to be dialed in on the settings on the reel as well as cast properly to take full advantage. The braking system works best when casts are consistent and arched so the velocity slows more evenly. If you cast low, flat, and fast you're more susceptible to backlashing because the brake won't be able to adjust perfectly with those abrupt speed changes. Hope that makes sense.
Answer: If you set the dial to number 4 that will be the most resistance, you can cast into or against the wind on a windy day and will not get a backlash with No thumb pressure at all. Make sure the spool is set up that doesn’t move left and right. This Reel is Sick in performance.
Answer: Not as much but you have to work with settings especially casting into the wind. Hardly ever get a backlash casting with the wind.
Answer: When you set it right they are few and far between bought it for my son and I had not seen him with a nasty one yet
Q:
What’s the best gear ratio for a square bill crank bait?
Answer: I like the 8.5-1 ratio, I just slow roll it. When the fish hits and runs to the boat it helps having the high speed. The only thing I have trouble with is the drag it's weak at 11lbs.
Answer: I use 7:1 on my crank rods.
Q:
What is the best line to use on this?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I’m sorry, I bought this reel for my grandson and don’t know the answer to your question.
Answer: I use mine with 30lb braid
Q:
what side is retrieve on for left hand reel
Answer: I am right handed and my retrieve is on the right. The reason for purchasing this reel was to eliminate “Bird Nesting” First cast bird nest, second cast bird nest, I think you get the picture. Have tried all the different settings.
Answer: 151. Anything ending in a 1 with Shimano is left handed
Q:
Waterproof...? I fish in the rain a lot
Answer: I can't call any reel waterproof but it holds up fishing in heavy rain. I've sunken it in the water to rinse it and it kept casting well.
Answer: You shbe fine. I have had DC reels for over two years and rain or weather has not damaged them.
Answer: Yea man, it’s good if you think about it your line is wet and it gets on the reel every cast, so it’s all the same????????????????
Answer: Wasnt bad but returned and ordered a slx DC same thing lower price im sure this one got better gears but using both even if i was blind folded i wouldnt be able to tell any difference
Answer: Yes
Q:
How much 10 pound mono line capacity can you put on the reel?
Answer: Sorry I don’t know as I use Braided line
Q:
Is the extra high gear 8.4 to 1 ratio
Answer: Are you looking for a Kast King speed demon or a Abu revo rocket?
Q:
Do you have a left hand?
Answer: No.
Q:
Where does this ship from?
Answer: Amazon
Q:
Why is it so hard to find out where it’s made?
Answer: The curado dc 150 was made in China.
Answer: Since Shimano is a Japanese company, I would assume it is made in Japan. It is an amazing reel
Answer: Malaysia
Answer: I WOULD GUESS JAPAN.
Answer: Japan
Q:
Will it catch fish for you?
Answer: it will catch fish at least as well if not better than any other reel i have used.
Q:
Does diameter of braid line make any difference on which setting to pick or is braid setting for all diameters of braid?
Answer: Really doesn’t make a difference, there’s a setting for braid but it’s really your comfort level. I had braid on one and monofilament on the other.
Answer: my experence is that the one setting works for all sizes of braid
Answer: Braid setting is for all braid as with all the other settings.
Answer: Yes
Q:
Is this worth the $250 or is there a better reel for the money?
Answer: It is worth it! If throw this reel and then pick up another brand it’s like throwing rocks it’s super smooth. I just purchased my second one.
Answer: Yes. The shimano antares DC. If you can't afford that then there is no reel better for the money.
Answer: Bought this for my grandson for Christmas. He lives in Michigan and hasn't yet had an opportunity to use it. Sorry. I don't know how it performs as yet.
Q:
Is seller an authorized Shimano dealer?
Answer: Yes
Q:
Are the left hand retrieve going to stock back up any time soon ?
Answer: Can’t answer that question I’m not a retailer
Q:
Cuanto pesa con el embalaje en kilogramos??
Q:
Can I use this in the saltwater?
Answer: Max, I’d use caution using it in saltwater due to the fact it has a digital circuit inside the reel so corrosion would play a factor in longevity
Q:
can my friend still brid nest this real. Like for real he needs help
Answer: You can still make a pterodactyl nest for sure. Definitely better than my Revos or Lews, but a cast in the wind not thumbing it will backlash like any of em.
Answer: You can definitely still birdsnest, gotta first understand how the settings work on a bait caster. Once it’s set then you will almost never backlash, but user error is always a thing. Use YouTube for more help
Answer: It’s pretty hard to, it has four settings, and one is for I guess you’d call a “beginner”? If I d of you still slightly ride your thumb on the bale, on cast it won’t happen.
Answer: Tighten the small round knob by the handle. Lure should fall slowly and the spool should stop when the bait hits the ground.
Answer: yes he can, just not as often!
Q:
I'm new to Bait casters should I buy this?
Answer: Yes they are extremely forgiving when learning to use a bait caster. There is even a cheaper reel from shimano called the SLX DC for only 189.00 it has the same electrical braking feature.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I would say yes especially being new to bait casters because it will help you learn how to control your thumb when casting and I absolutely love mine.
Answer: Really a good reel, easy to throw into wind and very few minor backlashes. Have fished a lot with it and have several other Shimano reels and some others, it is my favorite. It makes a little noise when reeling in, but acceptable. Takes some time to find settings that will work for you.
Answer: this one isnt birdsnest-proof by any means... it's good, it not perfect. I would probably start with something a little more basic, keep the sensitivity pretty high, and when you get comfortable with that, consider something like this.... then you wont be afraid to pick up a standard reel when you need to.
Answer: It's a bit pricey but worth it. Read the instructions and you'll be ok. Make sure you set the dial to the line you are using. (Mine is maxed out for flippin and skipping) Backlashes are almost non existent with this reel.
Answer: It is a very good reel, but it still takes a lot of practice.
Answer: I love this reel, no birds nest, this is not cheap, I say yes but decide what gear ratio
Answer: Yes! Just use the suggested settings and you will get the hang of it. Have fun.
Answer: You should, I’m not sponsored by them but it’s a great product
Q:
I have never had anything faster than a 6.* speed baitcaster, but I am intrigued by the 8.* speed reel. Any, downside?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: You can go ahead and use high speed reel with confidence, great reels for far Casting cause you won’t have to reel in as fast. I only use 6:3.1 reels when I’m using a slow presentation, kinda a finesse fishing. Hope this helps, you received a lot of good other information.
Answer: Love the high speed for frog fishing, speed helps with getting the fish to the boat faster and keeping some of weeds off witch make the fish harder to bring in, hope this helps, love my 8 speed, I have 2
Answer: i like a high speed reel. If you need too slow roll a crank biat, just reel slower. If you fish a jig and a fish hits it and runs at your boat, a high speed reel helps you catch up. I hope you are not disappointed in the 11 pound drag. I was!!!
Answer: There is no downside to it. mine are all 7 or 8 you wont be disappointed
Answer: Excellent reel and super easy to cast.
Answer: Great reel. Just takes a little time to get use to the “feel” and best setting for your use and experience.
Answer: You will have to get used to reeling slower with some baits and type of presentation.
Answer: Only when fishing in colder temps for bass, they dont want to chase anything or even move that much. They 8.1 gears are best for taking a lot of line in fast so you can wrangle a large bass or any size bass for that matter, out of heavy cover.
Product reviews of Shimano CURADO DC, LowProfile Baitcasting Freshwater Fishing Reel
Don-WWF : nice reel with exception
I love the distance on the reel but had more backlashes than was expected. For a reel that claims no backlashes I had as many as any other reel.
Sunnie Yann : I love it thanks
Thanks
GT : Excellent performance and consistency.
The Shimano Curado DC 150HG is the smoothest and fastest reel I've fished with. The casting distance doesn't change much compared to other non-DC quality reels, the main advantage is consistency.
I always end up with one or another "bird's nests" (when the line gets tangled up on the spool) every time I go out. In my particular case it typically happens when I start casting into the wind, or it starts raining or it gets dark. Or when I get distracted.
The DC does a great job compensating for that. If use it properly your casting will improve and you'll spend more time fishing and your line will last longer.
Another great feature of the Curado and other Shimano reels is that it's very easy to clean and lubricate. That also plays a role in performance.
I've had it for a few weeks so I can't say much about reliability but knowing Shimano for many decades I'm positive that it will not be an issue.
Yeller_nek : BUY IT!!
I have the DC on a Curado 7'5 med hvy, moderste fast rod, all i can say is it is amazing. Worth every penny super smooth.
Amazon Customer : Home run
This reel is the best by far for the money that I have ever bought in a bait cast reel. No backlash and great casting ability.
bugzziee : Best reel ever!
Love this reel. Rarely get a bird nest
Hoyt3417 : Get it
Just get it I got this and the k and love them both equally if you're debating on what one to get the k cast almost as far but doesn't make that sweet noise
Amazon Customer : Paid for a new high dollar reel and received used.
Disappointed to find the reel that I paid a lot of money for as new already opened. Seal was broken on the box and box pulled apart with the reel half wrapped. Not a NEW reel. It seems fine and if I wasn’t planning a big fishing trip in two days I would return it since I don’t know the circumstances of why it was opened. For the price you pay for something like this you expect an in opened at least.
JADISLANDMAN : Grandson is Thrilled
I bought this for my grandson's Christmas present. He is an avid fisherman and is thrilled with this reel.
Revan : Best reel EVER
Took some to dial in... but man oh man... once you get it tuned... I've got 150yrds of 20lb power pro... the "electronic humm" is a dream. If it ever gets old....I'll update my review
christopher ross : Defective spool tension knob.
Defective spool tension knob everything else works.
Richard Wolfe : AWSOME REEL
I absolutely love this reel so happy I bought it
Rico and Family : Ummmmm wow.
I'm not sure if there is there's any company that has a better brake design than Shimano and their DC brakes. This is my first Curado DC and I also have 2 SLX DC's. I spent the extra $60 to see if it's even worth it. I immediately noticed how much smoother the Curado is. That says a lot because I thought the SLX was smooth. The big question for me is it worth it over the SLX DC. I'm not sure it is. If I'm tight with money I wouldn't hesitate getting the SLX DC. If I'm not at the time I would definitely choose the Curado DC again and again. This difference isn't jaw dropping. So I can't really say it's worth it but it is a noticeable difference. If you're not choosing between the SLX and the Curado and just choosing between DC and anything else then DC brakes is a no brainer. Anyone who says different is only because they don't have one or they are not experienced enough to know better. I can't stress enough that the DC difference is life changing.
Cobra1 : Great Product
Amazing reel and quick ship - thanks

Javier R : Awesome baitcasting reel.
Best baitcasting reel i have ever owned. Love how smooth it is. 100% recommended
Chris D. : The definitive baitcasting technology.
Nothing to dislike.... it does everything it’s supposed to do. Casts like a dream - NOT FOR LIGHTWEIGHT FINESSE LURES. Best suited to lures that are typically affected by wind it their lack of aerodynamics such as crankbaits, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, larger profile softplastics and swimbaits. 3/8 oz. to 1oz lures are it’s sweetspot.
AZ : Awesome reel for salmon
Well time for a review of the Curado DC left hand retrieval. My first ever baitcaster was the curado k and I’m glad I got hooked on Shimano year quickly because the reels are fantastic. I was indecisive at first because I’ve seen people use these reels mainly for bass fishing when I only fish for salmon here in the PNW. I caught over 30-40 salmon on my Curado K and never had any issues. I bought the DC as a step up from the K and so far it’s been living up to the hype. Lightweight, good power for chinook and silver salmon, very smooth and casts really nice. I will say this is not 100% backlash proof just like any other reel. Regardless, I always thumb the spool so not concerned about backlash anyways. There isn’t a huge difference between the K and the DC though. Both look very identical and fish the same. The DC does sound really good too compared to the K. If you got the dough I’d get the DC but the if not, you’re not missing out on tons.
Can’t go wrong with Shimano. Some people say they have issues but for me I’ve caught tons of large fish and am satisfied with my purchase.
Rico and Family : Ummmmm wow.

Honest FeedBack : Amazing!
Believe the hype! I used my 150 DC the first time today in a strong wind. This reel is smooth long and backlashes are almost non existent in the worst circumstances. Stop looking... buy it! Update...I now own five of these reels and I love them. Don't be an idiot and try casting with no thumbing at all. If you lightly thumb the reel it will cast better than any reel you will ever buy. DO NOT adjust the reel as it comes factory adjusted for the spool. You DO NOT need to adjust it for each bait. Just use the guide for the four settings for the types of line you use and this will be the best reel you ever owned.
Honest FeedBack : Amazing!

Chrissy Kief : Cast farther!!
Ive had other models of the curado for the past 15 years, and they still work good, this lead me to being loyal to shimano and buying the new DC. This new model may have a steep price but its worth it. I can cast significantly farther with all types of baits. It may not be back-lash proof but it may just need adjustments on my end. Glad I bought it.
Gene G : Shimano # 1
Fantastic reel, can’t say enough good things about it, you have to try it. Highly recommend
jacob ringer : Amazing
Greatest reel I've ever owned!
Ted : Practically eliminates backlash
Great reel. If you can afford it get one. Once set up you can make long casts, backslash free ...
Meaty : Fun!
Spooled it with KK Super Power braid with a KK FluoroKote topshot. Have mounted it on a few Swimbait Rods
After adjusting the spool tension was able to huk a 4oz weight an insane distance over and over. Have Yet to birdnest it. Makes a pretty crazy wine when matched with a Dobyns 795 and launching it a hard as i can. Plan on use it in salt and brackish water. Not a ton of drag, but feels smooth. 30lb striper?? Probably better suited for freshwater. But having fun with it. Have some nice low pro baitcasters., This is my Favorite at the moment.
Daniel L. Gagner : Man, I love this thing
Yes you do have to be careful. You have to adjust it correctly, and it's not impossible to backlash, but this reel casts really sweet.
Adjustment tip. Don't adjust the tension knob by instructions that say tighten till the spool doesn't have any side play in it.
Instead adjust for each bait you tie on. Hold the tip up and click the release. It should just barely fall on it's own or if it's shaken a bit. Almost no falling. Do this and backlash will be very minimal if ever. Setting 2 works for me with most baits.
Thomas c shoemaker : Great Reel !
Great quality! I’m very satisfied with the product !

luke : It’s a shimano so it’s great
It’s not backlash proof of course but it’s a damn fine reel. I use it to throw small glide baits and swim baits
DM : This is personally my go to!!!!
Amazing! I own a lot of different bait casters but this right here is amazing. Yes, I’ve gotten bird nests...here and there but overall 10/10 ! Soon, all my rods will have this reel.
Kenneth M Wiles : Nice reel
Great for fishing shore line and around docks.
Rob Adams : Kayak fisherman’s best friend
I have this reel on a 7’ medium heavy Cashion rod. I have been fishing with it all summer in my peddle kayak inshore. I fish in heavy current and in a lot of wind. I use my left hand for the rudder and fish with the right. I can cast a 1/4 once jig in the wind for a mile and be completely accurate. I have complete confidence in it will not backlash. I still use my thumb lightly at the end of the cast. That combo is like an extension of my arm. I have caught some giant reds and flounder this year, drag was smooth. Every other bait caster I own now feel like complete junk. I need more of these in my life!
Rafael DV : Manufacturing
I thought it was from Japan. Unfortunately is from Malaysia. Not happy!
Greg Wilson : Love it
It’s description is true to form. Definitely a recommendation. Smooth!!!

Jessie J : Great reel
My sons loves this reel. It's his go-to and he's wanting more. He loves the break on it especially.
Customer James : Once you get it adjust back lashes are history
What can you say it’s a Shimano....Only thing I didn’t like about it is it wasn’t made in Japan but then again what’s made here in America anymore
Grateful Fred : Just Do It...It's Awesome
Had my eye on this for a while, and finally bit the bullet and bought the 151 DCHG, (left crank, 7:4.1). Worked it out for the first time kayak fishing yesterday on a good sized pond. The reel is paired with the St. Croix Mojo Bass Yak Rod (7 ft medium/fast). And spooled with Sufix Advanced Mono 14 lb test green. This reel is awesome! But it's not magic. Thumb management is still needed at times, but it's minimal. And no adjustments are needed for different sized baits which is huge. I was effortlessly going between 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, and 5/8 ounce baits while testing this reel out. I could throw everything on the "2" setting, the spool knob was never touched. I did go to the "3" setting a couple times with the heavier baits. Furthermore this reel, with the right rod, will flat out fling some lures further than you thought possible. Didn't do any flipping to speak of, but I suspect thumb management would still be critical there.
Max drag is 11 pounds, so it may not be at its best with braided line in heavy cover. Or hauling in say large stripers when they run up river. But it covers all the other bases as far as most bass fishing is concerned
If you are on the fence about this reel, forget about it...and just do it. Experienced casters will LUV it. Beginners will still have a learning curve, but a much smaller one than normal.
Again...you can still have backlashes. But far fewer than traditional braking systems. And no adjustments required when changing lures/baits...HUGE! Don't forget...you can throw the long bomb too.

Yeller_nek : BUY IT!!
I have the DC on a Curado 7'5 med hvy, moderste fast rod, all i can say is it is amazing. Worth every penny super smooth.
Stephen Moody Jr : Great reel for the price
Great reel! Held up nicely so far in rain and poor weather. No problems. For the price it was a nice addition to my current collection. Greatly helps reduce backlash.
TomK11 : Another solid Shimano reel
Works as advertised. Definitely helps me when casting lighter lures against the wind. Only took me about 5 casts to get used to the “DC whine”. Typical Shimano quality product and a permanent part of my reel lineup.
Chance Larsen : If you want a bait caster and have the money this is the reel you want!!!
I fished my whole life but I haven’t used very many bait casters, the only one I had before this one was the cheapest Shimano reel back in 2010, I recently got back into the bait caster game and decide to pick this reel up to make a new combo and it has not let me down whatsoever, the reel functions amazingly well and is as smooth as can be when you cast, It’s easy to disassemble and maintain, I would recommend this reel to anyone who wants to get in the fishing or is very well experienced, if you have the money to get it I say go for it!!!
Ken : Would buy again.
Very good reel and maybe best Shimano I have ever had. Have just used it three times and really impressed.
leo luke danna : Great reel!
I absolutely love this reel. I have always used spinning reels. I have had a few bait casters but when I heard about this one I want to try it but was nervous cause of my previous experiences and it’s not a cheap reel. But I’ve used it several times now caught plenty of fish and I’m about to order another. It is a great product
MJ : Must Have for Windy Conditions
Absolutely love this reel (Extra High Speed). While it’s still possible to birds nest, you'll only do that if you’re trying too hard to cast. Here in the Midwest, it’s always windy. So having this reel means I don’t have to adjust my setup all the time, all while still casting more that enough distance even into the wind.
CB : New Favorite Rod and Reel
Awesome transaction!!!! Got it fast. The reel and box were well packed. Now the reel Wow!! so smooth compared to what I have. Once you adjust the spool on this reel 1 time that’s it. Then you have 4 settings on the side to choose from for your line type. Set your drag to your line go fish. I watched YouTube videos before purchasing this reel and it makes a cool noise when you cast it but to me the noise was not as loud as it was in the YouTube videos it won’t spoke fish like I thought it might. If your thinking about buying one it’s nice it’s lightweight. I have this reel on 7’11” Expride xh rod for now with 65# braid the whole wt. is under a Pound. You can hold the rod and reel with 2 fingers it’s so light. Shimano also has the Slx DC for about $100 less but they Say the gears are better on corado DC. I had the money so I picked the Corado DC. Gone fishing later.
