Can I contact directly? small issue with this reel... Received today and the rubber grommet on the drag qas broken, where the spool seperates.

Does this reel have a free-spool retrieval for recovering slack quickly? I don’t like having to use the knob to recover line.

Answer: I don't think you would consider this a "free spool" reel but I think you could use it that way. This reel is made very well and worth the money.

Answer: This is the spool only. The main reel is currently out of stock, but we do have a shipment that should be arriving by the end of the month. Sorry for the confusion!

Are tolerances good enough to hold very thin mono running-line?

Answer: There is quite a broad adjustment of the tension possible through the reel, so I can’t see there being any issue. At the end of the day it does depend on the quality and rating of the mono line. Always happy to help out, and even happier when the product works as it should! Can I purchase with an extra spool for additinal cost?

Answer: Soon you can yes. We are currently in production for spare spools and hopefully will have these released before the end of the year.

is the real anodized?

Answer: Thank you for your question. We have checked with manufacturing and yes, all reels have been anodized.

Answer: I am not the manufacturer but a sculptor and metals guy and the finish is tough and thin as it should be for a machined reel. No worries on my end. very beautiful work.

Answer: Sorry your picture hasn't come through, but if you have managed to take off the spool to see the conical shape housing beneath, this unscrews counter clockwise to access the clip. Let me know if you have any troubles in doing this!

Answer: Good question thanks Hal. At the moment this is the only size we have released but we are looking at other sizes to be made available. Please let me know specifically what size you are after and I will speak with the manufacturers.

No instructions in box, need to change between left and right hand, where can i locate this information?

Answer: Generally speaking, if the reel is still as a full unit, undo the outer locking nut and remove the spool side. Inside turn the entire conical section of the reel anti-clockwise to undo, and life this off. Beneath, you should now be able to see the bearing under the clip which matches the images available on the website. If the issue persists, please reach out, and we will get it sorted for you!

can you tell me more about the maker?

Answer: Sure! We were able to find and start working with a highly reputable manufacturer in China some months back. This is the first of the line that I am working with them to create. If there is anything specific you need answered just send your questions along.

I bought one of these reels. no directions. can i set the drag on this? if so, it would seem that the drag system is stripped or defective?

Answer: Yes the drag can definitely be set on this. Increasing or decreasing the tension is all performed via turning the large gold dial on the reel clockwise or anti clockwise. Please review further and if there is an issue that you still can’t resolve, please reach out to us directly!

Are there extra spools available? And how can I get one

Answer: I’ve confirmed with our manufacturer that this is possible with our next production run later this month. The suggested price is $89.95, but we are considering launching this at a lower $59.95 if this would be of interest to you. Love to hear your thoughts!

Great quality and feel.

Ronk : Very good reel, take care converting from right to left hand retrieve.

This is a very good reel. The size, weight and drag are very good. I've purchased 2 and will buy more and recommend it to others.
My only complaint is when I switch the reel from right hand retrieve to left, the small o-ring (on both reels) tore and split so I couldn't reuse. These o-rings seam to be very delicate. I can't find the exact replacement so hopefully what I found will work.

BF : What's not to like

Right off, I would tell you that Nathan is very easy to work with and accommodating. I was looking for another reel to hold a new line that I had. Spotted this and liked the looks and design. When it arrived several days ago, I was impressed with the workmanship, the feel and again the overall design of this reel. It's now on my Beulah 5wt as you can see. Took it out today, first fish out of the gate was a nice 18" feisty rainbow. Perfect. This gave me a chance to test out out the drag, which I prefer on the light side. The drag control knob is textured so it's easy to just touch it and make slight adjustments. The range of settings is excellent. The reel balanced perfectly on this rod so I was very pleased. It's a great addition to my line up and I love the way it looks. Looking forward to seeing more offerings from this outfit.

This reel is made with precision. The construction is superb and there is no run out. The drag subtly applies pressure as you tighten it ensuring it will not break off a fish as you adjust it in the fight. The knurled knobs are easy to grasp for adjustment. I bought this as a drift boat reel, which have a tendency to jump overboard once in a while. This reel is too nice to relegate to sit in a rod holder and get beat up.

I'm very happy that I went out on a limb and bought this reel. I'd never heard of Platinum Fly Gear before. I looked them up and they're an Australian company. I loved this reel the moment I opened up the box and held it. It's totally CNC machined, not cast. The drag is very nice and the reel makes small clicking noise when retrieving the line which I've only seen (heard) on higher end reels. I have reels that cost much more but this is my favorite reel now. I wish they made a size 8. I've heard they are going to offer spare spools soon. That was the only thing I found disappointing. I usually like to purchase one or two spare spools for my reels so I can quickly and easily swap out lines.
