Is this reel for saltwater?

Answer: This reel is made for freshwater use. It does not have any Saltwater protection.

Answer: I have not used this one in saltwater . But that said I can not say I wouldn't . I do not think it is for heavy salt water use. I have several Quantum reels and most of them have been used occassionally in salt water . I have one old Quantum baitcaster that is 30yrs old and it was used in the flats for redfish &trout quite often . Take good care of it and match the size reel to the size fish and you should be fine . I mostly fish in fresh water and sometimes salt , so these reels work great for me .

Very nice, naught it to through swimbait but it's very nice smooth reel may put lighter line on and use for jerk baits. Impressed with reel so far.
