Answer: You should buy a penn and don't waste more money on a Shakespeare. I cancel the order of this Shakespeare contender because the bad comments and bought a penn for 10 Buck's more and I'm very happy with it. Very strong and excellent materials. Bye

Answer: I use mine in fresh water. For the price it is a nice reel. Drag is good and smooth. I do like this reel for the $ I paid. My other reels are Pflueger Presidents. The Presidents are made in China (the newer ones) I believe this one is too.

Bought a Shakespeare Spinning Reel 60 years ago and I still have it. This new one is just as good. Used it and the Shakespeare Pole I bought 60 years ago to catch several bass. It's smooth, and easy to use. Cannot beat it. Better than reels that cost three times as much.
