Answer: All, These are now made in China, or some third world country. I purcased my reel over 5years ago, it was old stock and was Made in old USA.

Answer: Mine is American made, but it's about 10 years old - keep that in mind. It is stamped on the reel seat "Made in USA". These are great reels but frankly I only bought it because it's American made. Order it and return it if it's stamped "Made in China". Personally, I would consider that a defect...

Answer: Just talk direct with the vendor, there some that are made in China. I would ask the seller to look at the box, you can also check with the Pen. Co. and request the made in USA. do not buy made in China. often, they are poorly made. I don't blame the chinese, they are told to make them cheap.

Answer: I trully don't know. However, I own this for years, I have drop it, leave it with salt water outside without washing it, never put grease in it, done all things with it, brutal use and treatment, and let me tell you, I spray it with water, and it looks brand new. Its tough....

Answer: It's an 8500. So it's a big reel. I live in Hawaii where we do a lot of onshore fishing, it can easily tackle large fish. Over all great reel. Only drawback it's a manual bail

Answer: Hi This is the 750ssm. It differs from the main amazon picture. It is the newer generation. I tried posting pics of mine but they are not showing up. The capacity of the reel is 30/575, 50/400, 65/340 braid and 15/420, 20/290, 25/260 mono. It is a large heavy duty reel for Stripers, Bluefish, and other large fish both fresh and saltwater. Answer: This a larger size. I purchased the 750 for a big game fishing, I never went. This is for Tuna fishing. They were made in my Old USA, but Thanks to the The outsource companies, They may be made in Malysia/China. Good Lock Jason.

Answer: The rating is on the spool. It is rated for braid.

Answer: Yes to braid, but in salmon season shoulder to shoulder on the mouth of a river I have to give it a miss for other reasons happy fishing

Answer: Im not aware of documentation stating that it's rated for braid but I use mine with 30lb powerpro braid and it works flawlessly.

Answer: I exclusively use braided line, I think that it has better feel due to the reduced stretch. Slippage on the spool is increased, so I put a quick wrap of electrical tape around the first line wrap& knot and haven't had a problem since. You can get quite a bit more braided on the reel than mono or other traditional lines. There are all sorts of charts out there that tell you how much, for this reason I actually have gone with smaller reels for surfcasting and have yet to have one get away to line runout. But I'm an excellent fisherman - my kid told me so! Best Fishes!

I have the 750ssm, the 550 ssg, and the old 4400ss. I couldn't be happier with these reels. They are easy to take apart and service, and there are plenty of replacement parts out there if a piece ever breaks. No, they are not as smooth as a higher end shimano ( that I also love as well), but I know they are built to last. I go surf fishing with the 750 all the time and am confident that my reel will not fail me.

Love these big Penn spinners. I have landed many a bull red and sharks in the 5' range in the surf with it. Got another spool for braid and use it for chucking big top waters off-shore, it will handle an 80 lb yellow fin with ease.
