Answer: its not 100% waterproof but it seems just as water tight as 90% of fly reels out there

Its great for the price! Very smooth and sturdy. The drag kinda sucks because its not highly adjustable but I am very happy with this reel.

The reel has 20+ settings for drag but the only major variations can be found in the first five. They vary between max drag, 6 pounds, and much less from there. The remaining differences are negligible. Great for strip retrieval, and awesome if you're just upgrading from a simple click and pawl and pawl. Smooth line retrieve and beautiful finish.

This reel is FANTASTIC! I love it so much. I paired it with my sinking line to get my nymphs and streamers down deep in the late fall/early winter before the lakes completely freeze over.
The only thing is the drag. It's got about 5 or 6 different levels before it's either super tight or really lose. It doesn't bother me at all, since the drag is enough to play a big pike and still let him run if he needs it. **Update** The drag is a drag. There is now only two levels: free spin and won't move at all. I still really enjoy this reel, but with harder fighting fish it's up to palm dragging.
My favorite part of this reel is how beautiful it looks. I got the gun metal grey finish and it's so pretty to look at with my black and white line and backing. I'm a huge fan of how skeletonized the reel is. I highly recommend this reel as an affordable starter or back up reel. For me, my wife and I are frugal, it's the exact price range I'm looking for.
