Q:
Can i use this 4500 reel on a 8 ft medium heavy rod?
Answer: yes
Q:
How do I move the handle to the left without damaging the little screw piece?
Answer: It should just unscrew backwards and screw in to the other side going clockwise.
Answer: I am not sure what you mean but if you mean change the handle over to the other side it's just a simple screw on and screw off.
Answer: If you are referring to the cap, it should only be hand tight. Just back it off..
Q:
how can you change the handle of BG 6500, and which one is fit for that reel?
Answer: I don't know of any aftermarket handles out there available for this reel but there's one hell of a knob to replace the factory knob on the handle.
Answer: Unscrew it and move.
Q:
Is the handle screw in or hexagonal?
Answer: Handle screws in.
Answer: Screw in to the body
Q:

Answer: I use penn grease and rod and reel cleaner very nice product
Q:
which one should I buy for a 9 ft surf rod 4000,4500,5000 size reel?
Answer: It depends on the pound capacity of the rod. If it can handle 30-50 lb test line get 4500 or bigger size. But you can use that rod for lower lb test line. It depends on what you want to catch.
Answer: Depends on your species of target fish. Also if you’re doing any jetty fishing or straight surf. For surf recommend the 5000 for lines capacity. For jetty’s reccomended 4000-4500 for a lighter set up since you will be casting a lot
Answer: Id go for the 4500 OR 5000 dependant on what you intend to catch.
Q:
Would this be a good match with a daiwa eliminator elt701h
Answer: Yes
Q:
What’s up with the size options here? I’m looking for a 2500 or 3000 but I don’t see it
Answer: 140yds/10 is the 2500 size once you have it in your cart it will say 2500 size
Answer: The one that says 140yds/10 lbs is the 2500. Click the first few, scroll down to the "product description" it'll tell you the exact model number. This will be including the weird ones that are listed with ratio numbers and such
Answer: Line capacity and Drag Max is better on 3000
Answer: 4500
Q:
Looking at bg 3500 or 4000 for striper in texas. recommendation? and matched with which ugly stick rod?
Answer: 3500 should be my choice. This reels run one size bigger
Q:
Im in socal, i want to put something together that i can use for fishing small stuff like perch but can also handle a bat ray. would a 5000 size work
Answer: A 5000 will be plenty and allows for a good amount of line in case you need to run those dogs! Enjoy.
Answer: Yes they can and hold alot of line depending on your line size.
Q:
What best size bg fits on a ugly stick inshore select 7'6 medium heavy ?Saltwater that won't look to big on the rod?
Answer: 3000 should be good for an all around set up. If you are surf fishing for, larger species like shark or Tarpon go to 4000. 3000 is a great all around Inshore reel for snook, redfish and trout.
Q:
Cuantas yardas le cabe al carrete con hilo de 30 libras
Q:
What's the best st. croix mojo spinning rod combo with bg 4500? 7’6” / medium heavy / fast or 7’ / medium heavy / fast ?
Answer: Either will work just fine
Q:
Is the 5000bg much larger than the 4500bg or is it just spool capacity?
Answer: Go with the 5000, You won't notice the difference in size. Yes, there is more line cap.
Q:
how is line capacity for 4500 in 40 lb braids
Answer: J-BRAID: 40/340, 50/270, 65/230. I have the BG5000 and it is a beast and I have 40lbs braid by bullbuster. i Nearly have 500 yrd but for the 4500 you will get 40/350
Answer: You can never go wrong with braid, however personally I never used 40 lb. 20 lb has been my choice for most of the fish I target if I and I have hooked up with a heavier fish ..... It's all about the drag !!!!
Answer: Excellent. Can easily take 320 yards of 80 lb test.
Q:
what size is recommended for 20lb+ catfish?
Answer: BG5000 Reel ! It's heavy, but I recommend it for your safety.
Answer: Too many variables to answer correctly. What size rod? What line weight is your rod rated to? Are you going to use braid or mono? The drag is great on these reels and you can land a big fish on lighter tackle. If you want to horse them in then you are going to have to heavier. Look up the specs for each reel on the Daiwa site and decide which is your best match.
Answer: Depends on how much line, diameter of line, mono or braid, etc... I use the BG 4500 with 300m of #50 braid for stripers up to #40.
Q:
Is the size that says " BG Spin 6 + 1, 5.7 : 1 " the 4500 model? because there is no 4500
Answer: Model
Answer: 4500 is the model
Q:
Is there any warranty on this product?
Answer: 1 year factory warranty
Answer: Yes
Q:
What size would i use in a boat or off docks in saltwater i’m looking for decent size fish maybe medium size i guess you would say any recommendation?
Answer: The 5000 size would be excellent for pier and dock fishing. Make sure to use a net to bring the fish up on the pier.
Answer: I have the 2500. I use it for inshore fishing in South Carolina. As long as you have your drag set accordingly, you can handle just about any "slot size" fish. Great reel all around.
Answer: Not sure of the sizes but 3500 to 4000 but you may want the 4500
Answer: It depends upon what Model BG. There are some for light fishing and heavy fishing. Here's a link: https://www.leaffin.com/daiwa-bg-spinning-reels/
Q:
What’s the size comparison between 4000-4500?
Answer: In physical size, probably 25%. I have the 3000, 4000, and 4500. 3&4 are on the small side for say 30lb stripers but will get it done. The 4500 is plenty of reel, and a nice fit on a 7' rod. IMHO
Answer: Line Per Handle Turn: 4000 39.9"; 4500 43.1"
Answer: First, the 4500 is a medium to heavy reel. The 4000 is a medium. Max line test is 65# vs 40# respectively. Max line capacity @ 40# is 340 yds vs 200 yds. 4500 weighs 22oz vs 14.3 for 4000. Neither is a great choice for continuous plug casting, but the 4000 is doable. The 4500 would probably wear out one's arm. The 4500 gets you into surf casting and bridge fishing with a larger stiffer pole and line size. I fish the Indian River Lagoon system in Fla and have several 3500s and a couple 4000s on my boat. The 4500s are my back-up for larger fish. Hope this helps.
Q:
Is the 4500 suited for both light to medium freshwater, as well as saltwater? Thanks.
Answer: You can use the 4500 for fresh water but it is over kill in my opinion. Drop to the 3500 and you will have a reel that is fine for fresh and light salt.
Answer: It is a big reel. Probably not the best for light freshwater but it would work. Balance on a light freshwater rod would not be good. This reel is heavy duty.
Answer: Medium to heavy freashwater and light to medium salt.
Answer: I think it might be over sized for light. I would say med to med-heavy. it depends on the size fish you are after also. Look at the smaller versions of the same reel if you want light med.
Q:
Can the reel knob be replaceable?
Answer: Yes
Q:
What reel will.be good for a 7ft med heavy Shakespeare ugly stick for salt water fishing? In south texas
Answer: I fish a 7ft med Ugly Stick off a pier for Mackerel with a 4500 reel. It gets the fish in quick and can handle bigger fish like a Bonito or Kingfish. Casts very far and huge line capacity. Where I live in Florida we have to get the fish in quick because the dolphin will snatch them if they can.
Answer: Me personally, I would go for something between a 3000 and 4000. I have two 4000's on 7ft Penn mh battalions now
Q:
Which of the above listed models is the BG4500?
Answer: The one with 5.7:1 ratio
Q:
Does the one year manufacture warranty cover lost or stolen reel?
Answer: yes of course ,lol
Q:
What size surf rod do you recommend for th BG 5000? Length, line weight, rod weight and action.
Answer: Okuma Rockaway 12’ surf rod med-heavy 12-25 lb line. Casting weight to 4oz. The rod is light at 11.6oz. The handle isn’t thick and bulky like most 12 foot surf rods. Light weight enough for casting lures in the surf all day without fatiguing your arms.
Answer: 9'6"-10'6" med-med/heavy 30-40lb braid mod/fast-fast action. The 5000 sits in the middle, so there are many options available depending on the fish you're targeting. I've put mine on a 10' med fast action, and a 10'6" med/heavy moderate fast action. It worked well on both.
Answer: I use a 10 to 12 foot ugly stick med heavy for my 4500 with 25 pound braid works very well
Q:
what model good for saltwater v.jigging short and deep depth ?
Answer: Depends what u jigging for. To me a 4500 is to small for jigging sw ide use a 6500 to a 8000 with 50 to 80lbs braid for ulua (gts) kahala ( amberjack) uku or opakapaka ( snappers) or groupers. Because da bg has a strong body and gearing. Anyting else u like know? Dea awesome for whipping to for ulua and papio. Gts & silver and blue trevally called da omilu which in Hawaii grows to 70lbs ulua (gt) size 10+ is ulua (Gt) size.

Q:
Is this a good reel for salmon fishing in a river?
Answer: Absolutely!
Q:
Where is it made?
Answer: It depends on the model. The more expensive are often still made in Japan and the less expensive are made in Malaysia, Thailand, etc. Americans are exceptionally cheap with price being a top factor versus Japanese or Europeans. So we have a lot of low end reels to choose from here.
Q:
Is this 4500 a JDM version or export version?
Answer: Export model.
Q:
Would this reel (4500) be good for surf fishing and steelhead and salmon 10’6” rod?
Answer: Yes. I have my 4500 installed on a 12' medium/heavy action rod for surf fishing, it works perfectly. It loads the entire 300 yards of 20lbs test braided line comfortably.
Answer: I have the 6500 and it is awesome. I have caught a couple 4 foot sharks and good size stingray. I think the 4500 would be plenty for surf fishing with a decent braided line.
Answer: I think the 4500 or the 5000 series. Both reels are the same size but the spool size is different. I have the 4000. Use with a 8’6” for early season stripers. Nice reel so far
Answer: I use a BG 3000 for surf fishing with 20lb test braid. It is a bit light for fish over 15 lbs. So I would think a 4500 would be a good selection.
Answer: Surf is cutting it close with 4500 but can be done 10'6" is ok... Steelhead, salmon yes great set up on 7'- 7'6" rod.
Answer: This reel is a very capable and versatile reel, so the answer would be yes.
Answer: Yes
Q:
BG model 4500 & 5000 are same in all specs, except in yardage capacity. Which one is ideal for west coast pier fishing?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I have the 6500 model. However, for long distance casting, I would recommend the 5000 model because of the larger line capacity.
Answer: Go with the 4000, anything larger is too heavy and overkill for West coast pier fishing.
Answer: 4500 should be fine.
Q:
To clarify a previous question-bg models 1500-4000 has auto bail; 4500-8000 has manual bail. what are the pros & cons of the 2 different bails?
Answer: On larger reels, manual bails are stronger and have less parts to break.
Answer: The primary reason the larger reels have a manual bail is to prevent the bail from automatically closing if the handle moves when you make a cast. Premature bail closure will cause heavy lures/weights to snap off during the cast.
Answer: i never knew they had manual, there is no reason that would justify leaving your grip to lower the bar. HATE IT!!!!!
Q:
Is there information or schematic how to change handle from left to right? I can't find any info how to change the handle at all.
Answer: Have you just tried unscrewing the nut on the opposite side of the handle, pulling the handle out and swapping sides? Just like almost every other spinning reel?
Q:
BG 4500 to much for fish at the jetties?
Answer: Different jetties have different tides and currents and fish. But for the most part a 4500 will be good.
Answer: Not if you hook a 50lb bass. Depends many things. I think a 3500 is plenty.
Q:
what is size difference between 4000 and 4500
Answer: They have different body sizes. The 4500 has the same body size as the 5000 but with a smaller spool.
Answer: It is significant. The 4500 is heavier at 22oz and has more line capacity with 270yrds of 50lb braid which seems unnecessary based on the 4000 having 370 yrd capacity of 20 lb braid at a weight of 14.3oz and up to 17.6lbs of drag. Unless you are looking for a heavy duty spinning reel the 4000 is a better choice and what I chose after handling both of them.
Q:
Can you switch what side the reel handle is on
Answer: Yes You Can, and it's Easy to Do, Just By Unscrewing the Screw Opposite the Reel Handle, put the Reel Handle on whatever side you Prefer, and Replace and Tighten the Screw. Very Nice Beefy Sturdy Reel.
Answer: I believe u can I take the handle off when I travel I just have not tried to switch it. But let me tell u this is a heavy reel I use it o a eleven foot surf rod it has a lot of leverage for big fish. Good for a heavy fight
Answer: Yes

Margaret Konopa : Exceptional Quality and Value --- Landed a beautiful Black Tip Shark at South Padre Island!
Daiwa makes great reels and this BG4500 is no exception. Paid $109.00 on Amazon (lowest cost anywhere) and it paid off during the first fishing trip. After adding 40lb braid, this reel casted with ease and precision. It is light, easy to operate, and smooth as silk. On day one, I set the drag and landed a 5.5' Blacktip Shark while surf fishing off at South Padre Island. Fifteen to twenty minutes of pure adrenaline with no issues. This is truly a durable reel that is easy to clean and maintain. I was so happy I purchased a smaller BG3000 and landed a 21" Redfish on day one. Same result and happy fishing! Choose the BG series of saltwater reels --- you will be glad you did.
Rich S. : Use 50 + lb braid
Great real, handled 4 foot hammerhead no problem, highly recommended
Amazon Customer : Great reel, great smooth drag
Got it in two days , ready for Cuba ..
Great reel , great smooth drag .
Can’t wait to get a second smaller one for lakes and rivers..
great service and fast ????
Wai : It's a nice reel.
Awesome reel for the price. I read somewhere that there wasn't enough grease inside the gearbox, so I opened it up and added Penn reel grease. I also used the grease to seal up hole under the crank handle where it threads into the body, and on the opposite side under the cap. I haven't tried it out yet, but I'll revisit this review when I've used it for awhile.
Capt. Jon : Excellent reel at a great price
After buying a BG3000 last summer for my trip to Florida I couldn't believe how buttery smooth this reel was. I've since switched out all my other reels to the BG series. Penn has a lot of catching up to do. Hands down best deal out there!
