The only ones that have failed me are those that escaped over the side of the boat when I was not paying attention. I use 40s and 50s for trolling and coastal fishing. I use 20s and 30s for throwing lures for bass. I think that the 30 will do the job for you without wearing you out. I use 8 lb. mono on my 30s and have had no issues. Great reel.

Answer: It depends on where you are going after 8 pound. If it is clogged with weeds and obstructions the 40 with 12 or 15 is perfect. If the water is free of things the bass can tangle the line around then the Trio 30 is adequate. I would use a 40 for worms and a 30 for top water or lures.

Answer: I own 3 of the 30's and find them perfect for medium-light applications (trolling for crappies, small mouth bass etc) this reel is well made and has a smooth drag system... however limited spool capacity ! I think the 40 or 50 would be a better choice for you.

Answer: I think the 30 will handle most of those needs. The drag system is excellent. I can run 10 and 12 pound line on it fine. If your averaging monster fish consistantly you may think about the 40. But ive had no problem yet, and I only fish rivers.

Answer: Match the reel specs to the rod. The 55 should take up to a 30 lb test braid. Be sure the rod has the same. I rather use 6 ft+ rods.

Answer: Hi Vang. A lot depends on what you want to fish for. If it was me I would opt for the Trio 30. You'll find line capacities for the 30 on your Amazon site and from that you can decide if the reel would hold enough line to handle the fish you're after. I would choose the 30 because it's a smaller reel and would probably offer a more balanced outfit with your 5' rod, which is important if you're going to fish all day with it. These are well made reels and have landed atlantic salmon to 14lbs on my 40.

I fish mainly trout in the eastern sierras. looking for a good reel to pair up with a okuma sst rod i just got.

Answer: Hi. I'm a big fan of this reel and have landed many fish (trout and sea trout) with it. The sst is an excellent rod and I would think the two would go together well. I don't know what size your rod is but I use the 40 reel and it balances well with rods 6'6", 9'3" & 10'. I use good quality 6 or 8lb line and have taken brownies to 2lbs, sea trout to 4lbs and rainbows to 7lbs. I use the reel for worming and spinning but you must look after it especially after use in the salt. AND! it looks really cool. Tight lines Animals.

Answer: if you looking for a reel that is comfortable, small in the palm of your hand for all day use and less fatigue due to its lightweight design you pretty much have dynamic combination along with the TCS rod for the application you want. I would think the two would go together well.

I have a Okuma CE-S-702L 7'0"...using for trout etc. would this be a good reel with the rod or should I get something like the Avenger lightweight?

Answer: After owning this reel for onr year now, I got hink it would be a very suitable reel for.that rod. And.the drag system is excelent. Espciaally when dealing with salmon or trout.

Answer: It would be great for trout fishing. Your line and pole would be the biggest difference for using this reel. I use it for light saltwater fishing and would def use it for some trout back at home.

I don't know all of the parts associated with the reel, but the bale (I think that is what it is called) on my reel has become a little loose. Answer: The trio30 is a nice medium size reel, and it is very smooth. It holds 160yds of 8lb mono. I use it for most of my fresh water fishing, trout , bass, etc. The trio20 is more for an ultra lite setup. The trio40 is bigger, I use that one with 65lb braid, mainly because I can get more, heavier line on it.

Answer: No, this reel does not come with and extra spool. I would suggest you go on the Okuma website and contact their office in Ontario California. I currently have the Trio 30 and it has become one of my favorite reel.

Answer: The Trio 20 comes in two models the regular and the "LE". They both take 4-8Lb mono 190-80 yds. I have the Trio 30 on an Okuma Tarvos rod with 120 yrds of 15lb Braid. Love this combination. set a #4 Circle hook with 18" 20# Fluorocarbon leader and caught a number of 16'+ Lane Snappers. great fight.

Answer: The specs say about 100 yards of 20lb braid but in practice the spool on the Trio 20 is actually quite small and fills up very fast. I wouldn't use anything bigger than 15lb braid honestly. The Trio 30 would be the way to go if you need 20lb are larger.

Answer: first of all I have the Trio 40 and use it for insore bay fishing and absolutely love it.as good as my shimano stradic at 3 time the price.i paired it with a shimano sojourn model SJS7OMA rod which is a 7 ft.med.fast action rod which is med.range shimano rod but you won't be disappointed they go great together.hope this helps and good luck fishing.

Answer: I'm not an expert on that type of fishing, but I would think that a 7ft. medium action rod would do the trick. I use Fenwick HMG rods and they do fine catching 3-8 lb. walleye in moving water.

Answer: The rod is half based on the anglers preference and half based on utility. If you are saltwater fishing I think a 6'6'' medium to medium heavy would be nice. I wouldn't go any smaller than that.

What's the difference between this standard speed okuma trio reel and the orange high speed okuma trio reel or are they the same?

Answer: High speed has a gear ratio of 6.2:1 which means a faster retrieve. Regular Trio is 5.0:1 which is noticeably slower retrieve. Both are great depending on application.

Answer: No the Orange one has a higher ratio, which helps your reel faster with less effort. The reels are specified on were and what you use to fish.

Answer: The Trio 20 is a ultra light, but you may like the Trio 30S better. It's small but stronger the then average 30 size which makes it more versatile.

Answer: I realize that this question was asked a long time ago. But, here's my answer: Some people might consider the Trio 20 to be ultra-light because it is designed to hold 4, 6 & 8 lb line. But to me, it's more of a light to medium-light reel...good for crappie, trout, smaller bass, smaller cats, etc. In my opinion, the Trio 20 is not a true ultra light reel. But it's close.

Answer: The 30 is what I would call a standard sized bass fishing reel so I'd say a 20 would be perfect for ultra light applications.

This is the replacement for the first reel

First one had bad gear gringing after a few fish on the first day of using it, pulled the side cover very little grease, amazon sent replacement, i pulled the side cover and greased with penn reel grease, first day out 15 fish and gear grinding feel again. Get a pflueger president xt, you'll be more satisfied!

Have the 20 size reel. Put it on a 7 ft med Okuma EvX rod, great pair. Pay little/no attention to the review that complains about the speed, the ratio is 5.0:1, pretty common ratio for spinning reels, the newest high grade quantums are 5.2:1 - good luck noticing the difference when you're using them for what they are meant for - if you're trying to burn spinners or frogs with them - probably not gonna work out for ya. If you want speed, get a baitcaster. This reel is machined to a pretty good/tight fit, very little play, operates silently, more so than some $180 spinning reels I own, the drag even on the 20 size is tough and very smooth, easily handles 5-6 lb bass. Looks - if you watch the price, this may be the coolest looking reel you can find under $50, all my buddies love the feel and look of the reel, if you carry it around the boat dock you'll get asked who makes it several times, lots of compliments. Great budget reel, drag is excellent, streamlined design, this reel balances slightly different than other spinning reels, nice design touch by Okuma. Release your drag pressure when you stop fishing for the week or store this one, will make a difference in how long you use this good looking reel. This is a solidly built reel, don't let the material list fool you, very sturdy, Okuma is very good at using lighter weight materials in places that do not hold stress.

I own two of these, a size 30 and 20. I use them on my lightweight and ultralight rods with 6lb and 4lb test respectively.
The use of aluminum on the reels really solidifies them. You never feel any kind of flex anywhere even though there are a lot of composite parts.
The drag on these reels is just exceptional. It's hard to put into words how it feels, and how much better it is than say an Okuma Avenger reel, but it just feels so much smoother. When running light line and light to ultralight rods, the rod action, the reel drag and the fisherman's reaction to both is how you can get bigger fish in without a break off. I love the challenge, and these reels fit the bill well as part of the equipment.
I had to rate a four instead of five because my 30 size reel had a good bit of gear slop when I got it (maybe 1/4" of movement at the handle before the gears engaged.) It's evened out some through use, but is still not as tight as I'd like. I will probably send it to Okuma for service. The 20 size was tight out of the box and remains so.

**Note** Okuma must use a more viscus gear lubricant on these than most reels. Turning resistance is much higher than expected out of the box, but they break in after a couple uses.
Also, these are not lightweight reels. The weights are clearly stated, so I cannot detract from the review. Just note these weigh considerably more than fully composite reels; I'd guess by 50%. Not a big deal when you are talking about the larger sizes with big/heavy rods, but it makes a difference with your ultralight rig.

What a great reel! This is as good as my Shimano Stridac and half the price. The drag is smooth, the reel balances well, and there absolutely no slop in the gears. I now have this reel size 30 paired with a 7ft ML Reflexions rod with 6 lb test mono. The setup is a smallmouth/finesse beast. If you are in the market for a good looking and great preforming reel I recommend the Okuma Trio.

I have quite a few spinning reels that retail for more than this reel, but I am impressed with what Okuma has come up with in this model. It looks good, feels solid, well fitted, has a loud drag clicker and the best line clip I've seen. It's smooth operating and has a very strong as well as smooth drag. I liked it so much that I just ordered a 30 size in it too. They just need to include a spare spool. All spinning reels should come with a spare spool and not a cheap spare but a spare spool exactly like the one on the reel. Okuma is becoming a reel manufacturer that seems to be constantly getting better at producing a professional grade product that you can afford. This reel would be a good buy at far more money than what it sells for, considering it compares favorably with 150-200 dollar reels.

I put the 3.0 reel on an okuma 7 foot rod filled the reel with 20 lb power pro braided line and I headed out for Trout and redfish. I landed a few Gator Trout and 30" reds with no issues. One red stripped off about 60 feet of line and it was as smooth as silk. I was able to stop that fish turn him and bring him to the boat. I was very impressed with the power.
At this price and performance I don't think I'll be spending $150 for another reel.

I have it loaded with 20lb power pro and although I have had a few knots show up in it they came while working a twitch bait in a twitching motion with a good bit of slack. During normal operation this was never an issue.

The only negative is the fact that is a standard retrieve. High speed would be much better. It takes a lot work work on the long casts to work a lure back to the boat. If the high speed version works as well as this one I could go up to 4 stars on it.

I bought this at a gas station/sporting goods store near my home. Admittedly, I bought it because of the way it looked and because it was the nicest reel I could afford.

This is my first high quality reel, but it perfect as far as I can tell. The drag is not hard to set, it is just VERY delicate when new. The first few big fish you get in will break the drag in so you can set it easier, my recommendation would buy some strong line until you figure yours out. It is incredibly smooth.

I don't understand what the guy with the A20 was talking about but my A30 is great.

Bought a Trio 20 2 years ago, put it on an okuma 8' ultra light rod. Have caught hundreds of perch on this since then, plenty of smaller bass and a few trout. This reel looks really cool and I have zero complaints on it. I can only recommend this reel. For the money I don't think you can find better. I have not done anything special to store it, just fish and back into the spare room until next time.

Don't know if the 1 star guy just happen to get a dud or not. This Trio definitely worth the money and even better than some of the higher end model. Only reason I don't give the 5 stars it's because I've only used these for about 2 months. Works great still even when I grind some sand in it by accident.

I have used one all season for smallmouth fishing a dropshot and have landed hundreds of large smallies with no complaints. I run light line and drag is very important. This reel worked so well I just ordered another and plan for one more for my son. I have had Okuma spinning reels in the past and have no complaints.

This reel is great, and for the price it's really hard to beat. Used it a few times already, and although I haven't pulled in any monsters it has handled very well with 4-6 lbs fish. Don't think it will be any problem to land larger fish either.

Great reel in the sub $100 line up. Put this in rotation with my okuma helios and my quantum exo's. Iv been so impressed with okuma a quality compared to other more known brands.

Pro's- smooth all around reel. Nice smooth drag with plenty of stopping power. The aesthetics of this reel are beautiful. No play what so ever in the handle.
Con's-weight. This thing is heavy. It's the first thing you notice. I could be that I'm coming from light reels like the helios and exo but this this is a heavy. Lack of spare spool.

Other then the weight and spool I have no real complaints. It's a great reel for under $100. I actually replaced my quantum smoke with this reel. It's a nice fit in the 30 size on a 6-6 shimano crucial and it lays braid Nicely. I would have no issue taking this reel shore fishing which is something I would never do with my quantum exo or okuma helios out of fear or smashing up $200 reels. So If you are lookin for a great reel for under $100 add this one to the list.

This was the first but not the last. 110 yards is misleading. Use braid and that number goes up to 125 or more yards. The retrieve is smooth and the drag is exceptional. Hooked a 37" snook and played it for a while and released it unharmed to fight another day.

Usually I don't write this much reviews. But this typical Okuma made me have to say something, and I hope my review can help the rest of your guys stay away from the marketing gimmicks
1. "Hybrid spool design with graphite arbor and aluminum lip" Total BS! Here's why.The spool is plastic and Okuma puts a aluminum skirt on the reel. Do you really expect aluminum skirt to take on the force? The only thing that alum skirt can do is decoration.
2. Hybrid rotor. Again Aluminum mounted on plastic and only connected with one screw.
3. After hooking on two red fish, the reel started sound a little weird. For every turn I can feel a bit stop at some point. I originally thought something got stuck in the handle gap or somewhere. But after I took the reel body apart, I found a plastic shaft connecting the main gear and the back switch is misshapen. I don't think for a reel that cast $60 buck would break like this.
So my summary: Okuma tried to keep the cost down by using poor quality components and used the marketing terms to boast a mediocre reel

Great reel for the money. Smooth drag and killer looks. the one thing i am not sure about is the amount of line on the spool. Im nervous about hooking into that hog of a steelhead or salmon and running out of line. it will be just fine and i am 100% happy with the perchase. I have only fished it the last few weekends so i can not say anything about the life of the reel yet BUT its an okuma that i spent $60 on. if i get 3-4 good seasons out of it i will be happy.
