I can't wait! I absolutely love that show.
I believe it will be the debut of Jordan Lee & Justin Lucas on MLF.
I'm a big fan of MLF and excited to watch this season !!!
Will the MLF have live coverage like BASS have?
Thanks for the reminder-just set the DVR. I hope Ott Defoe’s show, “The Hunt for Monster Bass,” is better than last season. I expected better. Show me something other than slow-motion jumping fish and slow-motion underwater shots and slow-motion drone views.
Should be another fun year.
Cool, thanks for the reminder. I'll set the DVR tonight.

Me too! It's the most educational tournament show there is. And I like the format, how they just weight the fish and release them. I could do without the penalty for dropping a fis or flippin it over the side. But all things considered, it's a great show. I don't even fish from a bass boat, but I've learned a whole lot from it.

I have wondered sometimes if he caught the big fish first and they had to edit to make it later in the show. Sometimes he fishes more than one day.
WFN got moved to another package for Dish Network and I would have to pay more for just that one show. So this is my favorite time of the TV season-when the fishing shows come back on the outdoor channels.
The best part of MLF is watching the pros get excited about catching 1.5 pound fish....just like I do! ????

LOL! It is funny to see them get so excited. When they hook up and and are like "OMG ITS A MONSTER!" 1 pound 12 ounces. I'm used to watching the elites, where they don't break a smile unless the fish is over 4 or 5 pounds.
The new show airing Saturday, I'm guessing that's the Cup events filmed last year correct? I know there is a BPT tournament at the end of January, I'm pretty sure that one will be live streamed.
I still dont like that format . I have gotten on schools of 1 lb bass , where I caught them them on almost every cast . I like the biggest five fish format much better .
I'll have to start watching this. I've never seen it, but I do get the outdoor channel in my cable package.
Unfortunately I don't get the Outdoor Channel with my Direct TV package so I'll have to wait until the repeats are shown on the Discovery Channel. Adding OTV would cost $4.99 a month which may not seem like much, but it would be a 10% increase in my DTV bill.
Last fall I did get Direct TV to cut my bill in half by threatening to go to the Playstation Vue streaming package. I'll wait another few months, threaten to switch again, and see if they'll throw in OTV for free.
As far as the MLF format, I like it. Depending upon the lake the pros can either target landing a ton of dinks or go for bigger bass. But so far in all of the events I have seen the anglers have gone for quantity over quality, but that may change with some of the venues this season.
The other day on Discovery Channel I saw they also had a wrap up show at the end of the tournament that showed the tackle and techniques that each angler used to win each round. That was interesting. I hope this year during the coverage they have a screen overlay to show what lures each of the pros are using during the event.

Are they airing new episodes on WFN? The press releases said it would be on the Outdoor channel. But the Dish guide shows episode 1 on Outdoor Channel and episode 2 airing on WFN.
And Dish is offering the outdoor package with both channels for $2/month for 6 months.

I wish they would raise the minimum size somewhat - doesn’t have to be 4 lbs but maybe at least 15 inches or 2 lbs or similar. Otherwise it can turn into a dink-fest.
Don’t know about the rest of you but I’ve always viewed catching pound-and-a-half fish as a negative, where I need to adjust and find a different pattern and bigger fish.
I like MLF a lot, but when you rarely see 4 or 5 pound fish, somethings wrong...

I believe they’ll have it on their website for the actual 2019 schedule, so Jan 29 is the first day of the first tournament.
Looking forward to see what happens,Bassmaster might have stumbled but there gonna survive. I still like the 5 biggest bass format.

I prefer the biggest 5 as well.
MLF is fun to watch though because there is a lot of action, I watch it every Monday night when it airs on WFN. I do wish they would raise the size/weight requirements from time to time, even if it was for just for some of the elimination rounds. I'd think electronics manufactures would prefer the 5 biggest as well, current MLF rules promote a lot of bank beating instead of taking the time to find bigger fish offshore with electronics.
I'm pretty excited to see how they setup the live streaming for the upcoming Bass Pro Tour.

That perspective changes based on where you are fishing. If you are on the Sabine or Delaware rivers, 1 to 2 lb fish are a positive. If you are fishing El Salto, 4 lb fish are a bother.
Personally, I never consider any bass of any size a negative. If I have a choice between catching 25 bass in the 1 to 2 lb range or just one or two 3 lb fish, I'll take the former. I'm not in a tournament, so the weight means less than the action. Plus I find the 1 to 2 lb bass to be more acrobatic & creative in their attempts to escape. Fun fishing should be fun.

LOL. Yeah, monsters just ain't what they used to be. And it's not just that show. These guys on TV routinely call a 3 lb bass a monster. I'd just call that "nice". But in MLF, if you could stand there and catch 15 inchers all day, you'd almost certainly win. Numbers is the name of the game.

You're quite spoiled. LOL. My buddy has a pond that has hardly a fish in it over 2 lbs. Sometimes I just tie a Rooster Tail on a really lightweight combo and have a ball on the dinks and big bluegills.
To me, I like it. Makes em find fish, establish a pattern, under a time limit. Just like me every time I'm on the water.

The interesting thing is there may be 1, just 1, queen of the pond roaming around your friends place. Someone is laying the eggs to hatch all those dinks and if you tend to only see big bluegills, that same someone is most likely keeping the bluegill population in check by eating the medium sized ones.
I wouldn't be surprised if one day, after hooking up with a dink or bluegill, your line suddenly gets real heavy and your drag starts screaming as the she beast devours your catch and heads for the other side of the pond. Looking forward to the picture

Interestingly, this pond used to produce some big bass. My buddy has an 8 pounder on the wall that come out of it. The first time I ever fished there with him, 15 years ago, I caught one 6.5 lb. We weighed and released it. I've probably fished there 100 times since and haven't caught anything bigger than 2 lbs. I did catch one that was maybe 1.5 lb. with a 6" bass down its throat. That fish has a chance at reaching good size because it's eating the plentiful forage, small bass. I released it. I have used all the big bass baits to try to cull the dinks. But I still catch dinks on them. I keep all the dinks I catch in there and put them in his basket for him to eat, but it hasn't seemed to make any difference. Most of the bass I catch have a concaved stomach, like they haven't eaten in days. Even the fish i see on beds are dinks. That leads me to believe they're getting to be several years old, but stunted.
It might be in this thread but when does these get aired on the app motv?

I would like it more if you saw a variety of both large and small fish... but when the average fish at each tournament is small and you rarely see anything over 3 lbs, you do question the format a bit.
I still think a 15 inch minimum would be a good compromise.
MLF is just a great format, all around.

lol. That's how I've seen that show from day one. I tried watching one episode and gave up. And I like watching Ott DeFoe on MLF. Hunt for Monster Bass looks like one of those videos that plays on monitors in Bass Pro Shops or some other outdoor store. It's really a badly produced series.
I'm a big fan of MLF too but I got a little ticked off last year. They kept talking about a World Championship but I didn't see it on the Outdoor Channel. I was flipping thru the channels one night and found MLF World Championship on the CBS Sports Network, which is a crappy network. I was upset I missed some episodes so didn't even watch. Still, MLF is my favorite show on TV, by far.
I don't even DVR MLF because it's pretty much on every weekend. If i catch it, I watch it. If I don't, I catch it later. By the end of the year, I'm watching reruns. But I do like the show a lot.
The fact the pros on this "tour" take it so seriously is what I enjoy. The real time updates play with each contestant's head and that adds the tension. Most of all, the angler's commentary about their thought process and decisions makes the one pound requirement bearable. I DVR the shows and watch them after Judge Judy is over.
***************** Spoiler Alert *************************
Season Opener is a Dink Fest.
A-Jay
Watching it now, recorded earlier....
OK, this is pretty cool.
"Dink fest." Heh, it's January -- I'll take some vicarious dink action over no action.
Does anyone know if there is a way to watch these with a Fire Stick?
Is MLF trying to keep the results under wraps? The haven't posted any of the scoring on their website or app.
Watched Saturday's show. Tough day for those competitors for sure. They did get some nice bass, but very few of them. I still enjoyed watching.
It amazes me that supposed pro anglers have so little confidence-or shame- as to drive up on the leader, watch what he is fishing, and then start running that pattern 100 yards up the bank from him. Pitiful.
Was last episode of the new season won by Randy Howell on Lake Murray in OK? My cable company cut the Outdoor Channel but I do have WFN and that episode came on Monday.

On 1/9/2019 at 8:36 PM, scaleface said:Did that really happen ?
Yup! I don't remember who did it but someone jumped right in front of Wesley Strader. Fletcher Shryock even commented how ridiculous it was.
Brandon Coulter pulled Mike Iaconelli’s famous move, “lets go see what (insert leader’s name here) is doing.” Great start to his MLF career. Sure it made him a lot of friends.
There was 1 local angler in the 1st event at Lake Murray, OK and finished last!
Half the bass weighed ranged between 2 3/4 to 5 1/4 lbs, not a dink feast and shows it pays to fish your strengths.
MLF format is by far the most entertaining TV bass fishing program and looking forward to watching this years schedule.
Tom
I know a lot of it has to do with the editing and time compression to fit it all in to the 2 hours, but I love seeing how each angler is fishing different water at the same time. Some are a bit deeper, some right on the banks, some are in clear looking water and some are in brown water. I don't typically see that on the bodies of water that I fish and it amazes me how drastically different a single body of water can be yet these guys are still catching fish.
Was it Ashmore?

I completely agree. I never understood the people who dislike it and think it's a dink fest. I think they got too accustomed to half hour shows that were filmed over days and only show their best catches.

And so goes the problem with knowing who is catching them and what size they are.
Some have even joked this was part of Boyd's intentions as that was one of his favorite moves when he was on the Elite series.
I could also see guys using it as a way to eliminate water. If Hackney and Bobby Lane are lighting up the scoreboard with 3lbers, how many guys will just start flipping shallow because they "figured" out part of the pattern?
I'm looking forward to their inaugural season and will interested in how things play out.

Pretty much this ^^
If you look at the results from the first Costa even on Lake Amistad TX, you'll see the average bass caught (801 weighed in) was just 1.9 pounds, 86% of the field each day couldn't even break 10 pounds, and only 3 guys were able to cash a check (130 guys entered) with a 3 pound average or better per bass.
By focusing only on the top few guys every day of an event, you get a skewed picture of what is really being caught across the entire field. Most pros are catching and weighing in smaller bass most of the time. Since there are only a handful of guys competing on any given day in MLF, you see these very normal catches across the whole field that normally never make or get coverage in a traditional BASS or FLW event, though they happen all the time.
MLF is as real as it gets.. Everyone trys to catch as many as they can on a given day! Also, some of my best days on the water came by result of the "bent rod pattern".. "Lets go see what Strader is doing", so this is real life to me.. haha
Not a bad second episode to the season! Really enjoy watching Randy Howell.

Something to the tune of
'Bass go after buzz baits because they think they're baby bass boats, and try and get them before they grow up' ????????
Another great episode. I love seeing how these guys figure things out when the fishing is tough. I learn a lot from watching them.

Love the MLF! Even my non fishing girlfriend watches it! MLF All Angles is great too....when the pros really explain what they used, how they fished it and the equipment they used.
I also kind kind of like when a pro has a bad day.....makes me feel better about all of my “bad days”! Ha!
I thought I read that Marty Stone will be doing the MLF, while the others will be doing the BPT.
Marty Stone and the others usually only do the commentating when the select rounds are done.

Would like this crew better if Z Train was on it. That’s the biggest miss so far but I’m sure with his contracts and other shows he has more To think about than all of those guys.
Wow, that was a tough day of fishing for the MLF guys this week. The big bass, even though very few, were what won. I guess that goes against the nothing but small bass argument.

I'm a little confused about the nomenclature.
Does "Stage 2" mean the same thing as "Day 2"? So "Stage 2" would be "Day 2 Shotgun Round 2 Group B" and "Stage 3" would be "Day 3 Elimination Round 1 Group A"?
They need to teach a course at the local community college on this stuff...

Stages are the different events/tournaments. Stage 1 was at Kississimee and Stage 2 is going on right now at Lake Conroe. Each Stage is 6 days. The first 2 days are Shotgun rounds, the next two days are elimination rounds, the 5th day is the knockout round and the 6th day is the Championship round.

Each individual day is divided into three fishing periods with a break between them.
I assume the reason they start the live feed at 10 am local time is to have enough material from period 1 to perform commentary and it is the time the second period starts.

I think starting at the very beginning is also a really long time to be live streaming. There's a ton of stuff that goes into producing a live event like that, especially that long.
